Die Europäische Akademie für Musik und darstel-lende Kunst ermöglicht in Montepulciano intensive Begegnungen von jungen hochbegabten Studierenden aus Deutschland und Studierenden führender europäi-scher Musik- und Kunsthochschulen. Die Arbeit der Akademie hat wesentlich zur Vernetzung der musikali-schen Zentren in Italien und Deutschland beigetragen und leistet einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Völkerverstän-digung und zum Zusammenwachsen Europas.

Die 5. Internationale Festwoche Europäischer Mu-sikhochschulen bringt auch in diesem Jahr wieder hochkarätige Musiker und begabte Studierende der Musik in Montepulciano zusammen und schafft dort eine internationale Atmosphäre, in der nicht zuletzt die Musik das Mittel einer universellen Verständigung ist. Dass auch in diesem Jahr die Festwoche einen Nach-klang in Detmold erfährt, spiegelt den europäischen Gedanken, der die Akademie und die Festwochen trägt und prägt.

Ich beglückwünsche die Akademie zu Ihrem Jubi-läum und wünsche allen Musikerinnen und Musikern eine bereichernde Zeit im Palazzo Ricci. Dem Publi-kum wünsche ich bezaubernde Klangerlebnisse – sei es nun im Herzen der Toskana oder im Oktober in Det-mold.

La musica ci tocca nel profondo, risveglia nostalgie, muove al pianto, suscita in ciascuno di noi un cosmo di associazioni, ricordi e sogni, unisce persone di culture differenti. Da ormai dieci anni nel cuore d’Europa c’è un luogo dove tutto ciò è divenuto realtà: l’Accademia Europea di Musica e Arte di Montepulciano, punto d’incontro fra giovani studenti di talento provenienti da prestigiosi Conservatori e Accademie d’Arte tedesche ed europee. Il lavoro dell’Accademia ha fornito non solo un sostanziale contributo al raccordo fra i centri musicali in Italia e in Germania ma anche alla convi-venza fra i popoli e alla crescita europea.

Il 5º Festival Internazionale dei Conservatori Euro-pei riunisce anche quest’anno a Montepulciano musi-cisti di vaglia e studenti talentuosi, creando un’atmosfera internazionale in cui la musica è un mezzo fondamen-tale di comprensione universale. Che il festival trovi un’eco a Detmold rispecchia lo spirito europeo che ani-ma e caratterizza l’Accademia ed i Festival.

Mi congratulo con l’Accademia per il giubileo ed auguro a tutte le musiciste e i musicisti un periodo fruttuoso a Montepulciano. Al pubblico auguro magi-che esperienze musicali – sia nel cuore della Toscana che in ottobre a Detmold.

Music touches our innermost; it awakes desires and can move us to tears; it can unfold a cosmos of reflections, reminiscences and dreams in each and every one of us; it builds connections between people of different cultures. For ten years now there has been a place in the heart of Europe which stands for all of that.

The European Academy for Music and the Performing Arts in Montepulciano enables encounters between young, highly talented students from Germany and students from the leading European music and art universities. The Academy’s work has played an important role in the networking between music centres in Italy and Germany and has made essential contributions towards international understanding and the growing together of Europe.

This year, the 5th International Festival Week of Euro-pean Music Academies again brings renowned musicians and music students together in Montepulciano and creates an in-ternational atmosphere in which music provides the basis for a manner of universal communication. The fact that the events of the Festival Week will have their resonance in Detmold re-flects the European ideal which carries and shapes the Acade-my and the Festival Week.

I congratulate the Academy on their anniversary and wish all the musicians an enriching time at the Palazzo Ricci. I wish the audiences captivating listening experiences – be it in the heart of Tuscany or in Detmold in October!

»Eine Utopie wird Realität …« Der Satz bezog sich 2001 auf die Eröffnung des Palazzo Ricci, ist aber gleichzeitig die Zusammenfassung und auch der Aus-blick auf die Arbeit der Akademie für Musik und Dar-stellende Kunst Montepulciano:

Aus der »Werkstatt für Musik« von Hans Werner Henze ist in den vergangenen zehn Jahren dank der Ideen und Initiativen der Hochschule für Musik in Köln, des Trägervereins und aller seiner Unterstützer und Unterstützerinnen ein Kristallisationspunkt euro-päischer Musikpflege und Präsentation geworden. Zum 10jährigen Bestehen der Akademie kommen bereits zum fünften Mal die europäischen Musikhochschulen zu einer internationalen Festwoche zusammen. Die Programme machen deutlich: Hochrangige Künstler und Künstlerinnen treffen sich hier mit internationaler Aufmerksamkeit und weiten die musikalisch-künstle-rische Kooperation zwischen Italien und Deutschland auf Europa aus – zur Freude von Studierenden und Gästen, die in Montepulciano zu intensiven Formen künstlerischer Zusammenarbeit und höchstem Kunst-genuss kommen.

Musik verbindet Menschen über Grenzen hin-weg – sie kann aber auch die verschiedenen Diszip-linen der Schönen Künste miteinander verbinden. Die »Bilder einer Ausstellung« von Modest Muss-orgsky zeigen beispielhaft, was aus intensivem Kon-takt zwischen Protagonisten von Musik und bilden-der Kunst entstehen kann. Das ist für uns in Nord-rhein-Westfalen Grund für eine weitere Utopie: Mit dem Kolleg für Kunst und Musik wollen die Kunst- und Musikhochschulen eine – auch europaweit ein-malige – alle Kunstsparten einbeziehende Zusam-menarbeit initiieren. Dieses Kolleg wird hier in der Akademie Montepulciano arbeiten und ganz sicher neue Formen der künstlerischen Zusammenarbeit entwickeln: In einer Gemeinschaft zu ausgewählten Themen, außerhalb der üblichen Studienpläne zu ar-beiten, entspricht ohnehin dem Geist einer klassi-schen Akademie im Palazzo Ricci.

Der Renaissance-Palast erinnert jedoch in der Landschaft der Toscana, die über Jahrhunderte hinweg Ziel der Italienreisen der Gebildeten war, noch an et-was anderes: An eine Epoche, die mit der »Wiederge-burt« der klassischen Antike eine rasante Entwicklung

von Kunst, Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft einleitete – und damit die individuelle Freiheit des Menschen als anerkannten Wert ermöglichte.

Frei nach Friedrich Schiller sind die Künste die Töchter der Freiheit – welcher Ort wäre in größerem Maß dafür prädestiniert, auch in den nächsten Jahren Utopien wahr werden zu lassen?

Ich gratuliere allen Beteiligten zum Jubiläum und wünsche Ihnen weiterhin viel Erfolg für die nächsten Jahre – den Gästen und Mitwirkenden des diesjährigen Festivals stehen unvergessliche Eindrücke und höchster Kunstgenuss bevor. Genießen Sie die hochkarätigen Veranstaltungen!

«Una utopia diviene realtà ...» La frase risale all’inau-gurazione di Palazzo Ricci nel 2001, ma è anche il compendio e uno sguardo sul lavoro svolto dall’Accademia di Musica e Arte di Montepulciano.

Grazie alle idee e alle iniziative del Conservatorio di Colonia, dell’ Associazione Palazzo Ricci e di tutti i suoi sostenitori e sostenitrici il laboratorio musicale di Hans Werner Henze è diventato un punto focale per la cura e la presentazione di avvenimenti artistici. Parteci-pando al decimo anniversario dell’Accademia è per la quinta volta che i Conservatori europei si ritrovano a Montepulciano per un festival tutto per loro. I pro-grammi parlano da soli: artisti e artiste di prim’ordine si ritrovano qui all’attenzione internazionale, amplian-do la cooperazione fra Italia e Germania sul piano eu-ropeo – per la gioia di studenti ed ospiti che conven-gono a Montepulciano con spirito intenso di collabo-razione e massimo piacere artistico.

La musica unisce gli uomini al di là delle frontiere, ma può anche riunire le diverse discipline delle Belle Arti. «Quadri di un’esposizione» di Modest Mussorgs-ky mostra magistralmente cosa può nascere dal contat-to fra protagoniosti della musica e delle arti figurative. Per noi in Nordreno-Vestfalia è motivo di un’ulteriore utopia: con l’Ateneo a Montepulciano e i Conservato-ri vogliamo iniziare una collaborazione unica anche a livello europeo che coinvolga tutti i settori artistici. L’Ateneo lavorerà nell’Accademia di Montepulciano e

svilupperà sicuramente nuove forme di collaborazione artistica. Lavorare in una comunità su temi prescelti, al di fuori dei normali piani di studio, corrisponde total-mente allo spirito di un’Accademia classica a Palazzo Ricci.

Ma il palazzo rinascimentale inserito nel paesaggio toscano, meta per secoli del viaggio in Italia di persone di cultura, evoca qualcos’altro: un’epoca che con la «ri-nascita» dell’antichità classica dette l’avvio ad un turbi-noso sviluppo artistico, scientifico e musicale – renden-do la libertà individuale dell’uomo un valore ricono-sciuto.

Citando liberamente Schiller, le arti sono figlie del-la libertà: quale altro luogo sarebbe maggiormente pre-destinato a concretizzare le utopie dei prossimi anni?

Esprimo le mie felicitazioni per l’anniversario a tutti gli interessati con l’augurio di continuare a riscuo-tere successo anche in futuro – emozioni indimentica-bili e supremo piacere artistico attendono gli ospiti e i collaboratori del festival di quest’anno: che si godano i fantastici spettacoli!

“A Utopia becomes reality …” In 2001 this sentence refer-red to the opening of the Palazzo Ricci, but at the same time it sums up and also offers an outlook on the future work of the Academy for Music and the Performing Arts Montepulciano.

Starting with Hans Werner Henze’s “International Art Workshop” a focal point for European music cultivation and presentation arose over the last ten years, thanks to the ideas and initiatives of the University for Music and Dance Colo-gne, the Academy’s Supporter Organisation and all of its sponsors. Upon its 10th anniversary, European music acade-mies are gathering for an international festival week for the 5th time. The programmes make clear: high-ranking artists meet here under international observance and are expanding the musical and artistic cooperation between Italy and Germa-ny to all of Europe – to the delight of students and guests in Montepulciano, who enjoy intensive forms of artistic collabo-ration and the ultimate opportunity to relish art.

Music brings people together across borders, but it can also serve to connect different disciplines of the fine arts. The “Pic-tures of an Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky are exempla-

ry of what can arise from close contact between the protagonists of music and the visual arts. This is the reason for another Utopia in North Rhine-Westphalia. Through the College of Arts and Music, the state’s art and music academies are ai-ming to initiate a co-operation between all art forms – unique in Europe. This college will be working here at the Academy in Montepulciano and will doubtlessly create new forms of ar-tistic collaboration. Working collectively on selected themes and without the usual curriculum plans is in accordance to the spi-rit of a classical academy at the Palazzo Ricci.

The Renaissance palace, set in the landscape of Tuscany which has been the destination of intellectuals on their travels through Italy for centuries, also reminds us of something else – of an era in which, through the “rebirth“ of classical anti-quity, the rapid development of art, science and society was set in motion and therewith rendered possible that individual free-dom became a recognized value.

Freely adapted from Friedrich Schiller, the arts are the daughters of freedom. Which other place could be more prede-stined to make Utopias come true in the years to come?

I would like to congratulate everyone involved in this an-niversary and wish you continued success for the next years. The guests and participants of this year’s festival will have un-forgettable experiences and a tremendous enjoyment of art in store for them. Do enjoy these high-class events!

Liebe Freunde der Europäischen Akademie für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Montepulciano, liebe Musik-liebhaberinnen und -liebhaber,

2011, im Jahr zahlreicher Jubiläen – 150 Jahre Italien und 25 Jahre Villa Vigoni, um nur zwei zu nennen – fei-ert auch die jüngste der deutschen Kulturinstitutionen in Italien ein Jubiläum: Vor zehn Jahren, am 17. Juni 2001, wurde der Palazzo Ricci feierlich als »Europäische Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst« eröffnet.

Schon einige Jahre zuvor hatte die Stadt Montepul-ciano der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln die Nutzung dieses schönen Gebäudes übertragen. Bis zur feierlichen Eröffnung wurde der Palazzo dank großzü-giger Spenden saniert.

Das Ministerium für Innovation, Wissenschaft und Forschung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen unter-stützt seitdem durch solide finanzielle Förderung die vielfältigen Projekte seiner Musik- und Kunsthoch-schulen im Palazzo Ricci.

Meisterkurse international renommierter Dozen-ten, Stipendienaufenthalte für Studierende aus ganz Europa und Fachkongresse vereinen höchste künstleri-sche Qualität mit kulturellem Austausch und mensch-lichen Begegnungen in der toskanischen Idylle.

So wie die kulturellen Beziehungen zwischen Deutschland und Italien einzigartig in ihrer Dichte und in ihrem historischen Gewachsensein sind, so ist auch die Europäische Akademie in Montepulciano einzigar-tig im Kreis der deutschen Institutionen in Italien.

Italien mit seinem Licht, seinem Himmel, seinen Menschen und seinen besonderen Tönen und Klängen ist bestens geeignet als Ort musikalischer Inspiration und menschlicher Begegnungen.

Cari Amici dell’Accademia Europea di Musica e Arte di Montepulciano, Cari Appassionati di musica,

Nel 2011, anno ricco di anniversari – 150esimo an-niversario dell’Italia e i 25 anni di Villa Vigoni, per citarne solo due – festeggia l’anniversario anche la più recente delle istituzioni culturali tedesche in Italia: die-ci anni fa, il 17 giugno 2001, è stato solennemente in-augurato Palazzo Ricci in veste di «Accademia Europea di Musica e Arte».

Già alcuni anni prima la città di Montepulciano aveva ceduto l’utilizzo di questo splendido edificio all’Accademia di Musica e Danza di Colonia. Fino al momento dell’inaugurazione solennemente il Palazzo era stato ristrutturato grazie a generose donazioni.

Il Ministero per l’Innovazione, la Scienza e la Ricerca del Land Renania Settentrionale-Vestfalia da allora assicura un solido sostegno ai variegati progetti delle sue Accademie di Musica e di Arte a Palazzo Ricci.

Masterclass di docenti di fama internazionali, sog-giorni per studenti da tutta l’Europa grazie a borse di studio e convegni con la presenza di esperti uniscono la più alta qualità artistica con lo scambio culturale e gli incontri personali con lo sfondo dell’idillio toscano.

Così come le relazioni culturali tra la Germania e l’Italia sono uniche per intensità e per storia, ugual-mente unica è l’Accademia Europea di Montepulciano tra tutte le istituzioni tedesche presenti in Italia.

L’Italia con la sua luce, il suo cielo, i suoi abitanti e i suoi particolari toni e suoni rappresenta il luogo ideale di ispirazione musicale e incontri personali.

La migliore occasione in tal senso è la Vostra diretta partecipazione al Festival in occasione del decimo anniversario della fondazione dell’Accademia e alla 5º Settimana Internazionale delle Accademie Musicali Europee.

Dear Friends of the European Academy of Music and the Performing Arts Montepulciano and dear Music Lovers!

2011, in a year of many anniversaries – 150 years Italy and 25 years Villa Vigoni, just to name two – the youngest of the German cultural institutions in Italy also celebrates an an-niversary. Ten years ago, on 17 June 2001, the Palazzo Ric-ci was festively opened as the “European Academy of Music and the Performing Arts”.

A few years earlier, the town of Montepulciano had of-ficially turned over the use of this beautiful building to the University for Music and Dance Cologne. Before the opening ceremony took place, the Palazzo was renovated thanks to ge-nerous donations.

Since that time the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Research of North Rhine-Westphalia gives solid financial support for the many projects that its music and art schools conduct in the Palazzo Ricci.

Master classes held by internationally renowned lecturers, scholarships for students from all over Europe and specialized congresses unite supreme artistic quality with cultural exchan-ges and personal encounters in the Tuscan idyll.

Just as the cultural relationship between Germany and Italy is unique in its density and in its historical development, so is the European Academy in Montepulciano unique among the German institutions in Italy.

Italy with its light, its skies, its people and its unique sounds and tones is a perfect place for musical inspiration and personal encounters.

The best chance you can have to experience this would be through your personal participation in the festivals which mark the 10th Anniversary of the Academy and the 5th In-ternational Festival Week of European schools of music.

I feel very closely associated with the Palazzo Ricci and its dedicated staff and I will take the opportunity this year to attend some of the festival events. I look forward to this reuni-on, the conversations with musicians and friends and of course the wonderful music.
