    pe-NEWS - 3/1988

    BEITRAGSTEIL

COMPAQ, SCHNEIDER PC 1512.OLIVETTI M24/M21, KAYPRO PC,COMMODORE PClO/20, ERICSSON, TOSHIBA LAPTOPS, PANA-SONIC, ZENITH, VIKTOR VPC,OSBORNE PC, NCR, TANDOKDIVERSE TAIWAN PRODUKTE(MULTlTECH, PLANTRON, us\\".).

    F: Wieviel Speicherplatz bentigen dieProgramme?

A: Falls Sie zumindest ber 256 KBfreien Speicher verfgen, drften Siekeine Probleme haben.

That wraps it up for another disk ofthe month. I sincerely hope you findsome of the programs contained onthis disk either amusing, educational,or at least useable. If you have publicdomain software which you feel is ofexceptional quality, please see eitherArthur Brock or myself at the nextmeeting. We'll be happy to make ar-rangements where we can obtain acopy from you, and will be sure to putit on a future disk of the month.

This is probably the most timely set offiles on this disko If your like me youare just dying to know the Tax ReformAct of 1987 is going to affect you. Willyou owe Uncle Sam huge sums of mo-ney? Did you really understand whatthat ridiculous W4 form was about?Well friends if you have Lotus 123(either release 1A or 2.0X) you can geta grip on your tax liability long beforeyou have to face your tax preparer.Tbis file is a tax template containingthe following forms, 1040, Schedule A,Schedule B, and 2441 Child care. So ifyour finances are reasonably simplethis package may be all you need to fUlout your own taxes and eliminate thecost of a professional preparer. Pleasenote: I have not had the opportunity toextensively test tbis template. The Lo-wer Bucks User Group assumes noliability whatsoever should you use thistemplate and then Tun afoul of theIRS. Please double check your work!

This is the only program on the diskwhich is in a ready to Tun .COM for-mat. It is a terrific utility programwhich allows you to copy, delete, move, and rename, files aImost effortlessly. The program is so well done that Iguarantee you will put it in the utility

.subdirectory of your hard drive afteryour first test drive. You may never usethe DOS COPY command again!

I have a love hate relationship with tbisprogram. It is a writing style checker.Wbat it does is analyze a documentand report on its readability. It reportsreadability by grade level. This is a funthing to play with as long as you don'tmind it telling you that you write a thesecond grade level. A couple of monthsago I fed it the text from some articlesI had written for the ASCIIriber, and itpromptly reported that I had writtenthat material at the 8th or 9th grade le-vel (pretty embarrassing huh!).

The first program on our disk for thismonth was an immediate hit with me.POST is aposter making program inmuch the same manner as Print Shop.Unlike Print Shop It is a text only pro-duct, but has a host of formatting opti-ons so you can have multiple lines withdifferent fonts on the same banner. Ican't tell whether the program is eitherancient or very indignant, as it insistson being Tun from a floppy in the A:drive. This is a minor shortcoming asmost people will not use this packageoften enough to warrant placing it ontheir hard drives.

Are you in the market for a new car? Ifyou are currently looking to buy a newcar, this is right up your alley. Thisprogram has oodles of great informa-tion about most all of the 1988 cars. You can compare cost, size, fuel eco-nomy, operating cost, interior room, fuel tank capacity, front drive, reardrive, and a hast of other hard to fmdinformation. This program was puttogether by a major auto leasing com-pany who uses this information to helptheir customers find the right type ofvehicle for their needs and hudget.
