PARISH NEWS AND EVEN TS

PARISH SCHOOL NEWS

RCIA Are you, or do you know someone who

has expressed an interest in becoming

Catholic, who has a child over the age

of seven who has not been baptized,

was baptized Catholic as a child, but

has not celebrated the sacraments of

Confirmation and Eucharist, or is

interested in learning more about our

faith?

Our parish of St. Martin will be starting

a Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

(RCIA) group very soon to help those

wanting to come into the faith, receive

Sacraments, or just learn more about

the faith. We will have two inquiry

sessions for those who would like some

more information about the process of

becoming Catholic and setting up

further meeting times on: Thursday

August 27th and Sunday, August 30th at

6 pm in the Cafeteria/Church

basement. (You only need to attend

one). If you or someone you know

would like more information please feel

free to contact Mark McGuire

at [email protected] or the parish

office.

PSR Registration is open for the PSR (Parish

School of Religion) Program. Registration

forms are available in the back of

church. Contact Mark McGuire at

[email protected] or the parish

office if you have questions.

CONFIRMATION Our next Confirmation Program will

be open to those in 7th-9th grade in

the 2020-2021 school year and any

other high school students who have

not yet been confirmed. Volunteer

group leaders are needed. Contact

Mark McGuire or the parish office if you

would like to be a team leader.

ADULT FAITH FORMATION We will be meeting on Tuesdays

after Mass, beginning August 25 in the

cafeteria. “Discover the Scriptural

roots of the Eucharist” explores the truth

and beauty of Christ’s Real Presence in

the Eucharist, from its origins in Sacred

Scripture, to its profound role in the life

of the Church and its members. It is the

crescendo of the entire story of

salvation. Everyone is welcome.

We are move'n and a groove'n - each

day brings us closer to the first day of

school. As a staff, we will be meeting for

three days of planning, tweaking and

team- building. The other two days will

be spent making sure the school is ready

to welcome the families to our Open

House on Sunday, August 16. The Open

House will be quite different this year.

The students will bring their supplies,

drop them off in their classrooms, get

their school picture taken and then

head outside to have grilled hot dogs

hosted by our Back-to-School Blast-Off

Team. (Thank you to Mrs. Jill Cremer who

has put together this event.)

We have taken the added precaution

of having the families schedule a time

to visit, which allows us to somewhat

control the crowd size, and be able to

disinfect between each shift. To help

with social distancing the teachers will

meet their students outside. While in the

building, everyone will be expected to

wear a mask. We are so thankful that we

still are able to come back together as

a Jaguar Nation.

This past week we said good-bye to

Travis Hoskins, who had been our

maintenance custodian for nine years.

His dedication, attention to task and

pride in his job was only overshadowed

by his love for the students. He enjoyed

grilling hot dogs for them on Summer

Blast-off day, playing volleyball against

the eighth grade and proudly displayed

the many pictures and cards the children

gave him on the custodial closet door.

He will be missed. We wish him the best

of luck in his new job and ask God to

bless him in his new endeavors.

We will be hosting a "PLAY DATE" for our

incoming preschool and prekindergarten

students next Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Parents and their preschooler/

prekindergartener are welcome to

attend this impromptu meeting which will

be held on the playground on the west

side of school. Playtime for the children

will begin at 5:30, followed by a question

and answer session for the parents at

6:00. Come meet your child's teachers,

other families and your child's new

friends.

RELIGIOUS RETIREMENT FUND Next weekend will be the annual

collection for the Retirement Fund for

Religious. Proceeds will assist

congregations of sisters, brothers and

religious priests to care for their elderly.

Your donations will help furnish

medications, nursing care, and more.

There is an envelope in your monthly

packet for this special collection.

PICNIC St. Thomas the Apostle Parish is hosting

their picnic on Sunday, August 16.

Fried Chicken and roast beef dinner,

potatoes & gravy, green beans and

kraut will be served cafeteria style,

11am - 7pm. Adults $12, Kids $6.

Drive-thru and carry outs available

(cash and check only) Credit cards

accepted (dine-in only). Quilt auction

at 5pm. View quilts online at

www.stthomasapostle.net.

MIRACLE OF FATIMA St. Joseph Parish, Westphalia, is

hosting a talk “The Miracle of Fatima”

with guest speaker Barb Ernster, from

the World Apostolate of Fatima, USA

on Monday, August 31 at 6;30 p.m. in

the school gym. Ms. Ernster will discuss

the Miracle of Fatima and what it

means for the times we are living.

The Fatima apparitions are a series of

amazing miracles and are messages

of hope and peace. It is never about

fear. The messages do, however,

contain a warning and a promise. This

is a free event and all are welcome.

There will be a free will collection for

future events. Call 573-694-6319 for

more information.

VIRTUS CLASS The Virtus (Protecting God’s Children)

6:30 p.m. have been cancelled due

to a lack of registrations. If you are in

need of training, you may complete

the course online. Please call the

Office of Child and Youth Protection

at 573-635-9127, ext. 224, for directions

for registering and completing the

training. All employees and volunteers

who have contact with children and

Protecting God’s Children session.
