Engineering professions as well as engineering education need a change belonging to more interdisciplinarity, more social and political integration and more diverse groups (e.g. women and men, people with several cultural backgrounds, ages) creating and producing for the needs of tomorrow. The development of processes to manage this changing is one of my major tasks.

Engineering education has to consider a well balanced composition of hard engineering and soft engineering skills. An either or solution of these two categories would certainly miss a future oriented engineering education concept. This includes solid basics in mathematics/physics/engineering fundamentals, the development of engineering skills and expertise to design and realize products and processes which serve for the needs of tomorrow, working together in interdisciplinary engineering teams, knowing about management principles. A challenge for current and future engineering education is to teach these hard and soft skills in a mutually beneficial way.

Bridging the gap between the requirements of an academic training and selection process on the one side and the competences required in a professional environment on the other side. How can we encourage and support application-oriented, technology-interested young people that may have difficulties with theory to successfully complete their studies?
