Conference ObjectivesOnce again, the Institute for Geology at the TU

Bergakademie Freiberg is pleased to invite you to the

international conference “UMH VII” taking place in Freiberg

in September 2014. The UMH VII conference will be an

international forum for discussing uranium related problems

and protecting and preserving our environment. This

conference builds up on the tradition of past conferences

(UMH I to UMH VI) from 1995 until 2011.

Practitioners, consultants, regulators, politicians,

researchers, scientists, engineers, and students will have

numerous opportunities to learn about innovative and

emerging scientific advances and technologies.

Also, the IAEA Technical meeting of the Uranium Mining

and Remediation Exchange Group (UMREG) will hold it’s

2014 meeting during two days. UMREG is a network of peers

working in the remediation of uranium mining and ore

processing facilities that has existed for nearly 20 years.

Session I: Uranium Mining

* In-situ leaching

* Heap leaching

* Radiation protection

* Environmental issues

* Life-cycle concepts

* International safety standards

* Risk assessment studies

* Education, training, and public relations

Session II: Uranium and Phosphates

* New methods of Uranium recovery

* Phosphogypsum

* Case studies

Session III: Clean-up technologies for water and soil

* Mine closure: concepts, clean up and reality

* Phytoremediation / stabilization

* Microbiological aspects

Session IV: Uranium and daughter nuclides

* Species analytics

* sotopes

* Sensors and assays

* Radon indoor

* Uranium and radium in drinking water including water treatment

Session V: Basic research and modelling

* Thermodynamics and kinetics

* Reactive transport modeling

* Fate of uranium released by phosphate fertilizers

* Intelligent management and treatment of uranium-enriched mine water
