Priit Pärn / Marc Bertemes 2.12.2011–29.02.2012Certainly, they are different. Therein stands the meaning of duo-exhibition for artists with different ages, from different surfaces. Priit Pärn, a man in his best age and Marc Bertemes, rather young as an artist. Let’s give a look at the interpretation of liberty, because both of their creation circles around freedom. The liberty of Priit is a power to show both, individual and society, through an ordinary image of man and woman. There is wisdom, courage, and the generalization ability in it, how he constantly notices the world around him. In case of Marc Bertemes, liberty is expressed in hesitation and rebellion, craving and vulnerability. Its very personal output is painting. Where Marc’s question emerges, Priit replies with a smile.

Jüri Kask / Frank Jons 5.03–10.06.2012And still they have something in common. The word “surface” loses its meaning on both of  the author’s paintings, because in the world of abstractions casual rules are not valid. Frank Jons and Jüri Kask are moving freely in that sphere, yet in a completely different direction. Kask can be characterized as ratio of moderation and measurement, strict control and completely composed. The material for his work is the shape of life around him, where else would he find the purpose for his refined forms. Work of Jons, in the other hand, is impulsive and enriches the author.  He enjoys the friction and resonance of pure pigments with emotionality and lush in every single piece. Both authors have found life-long endeavour in their own works.

Raul Meel / Robert Viola 13.06–15.08.2012These artists working in different environments and mediums of expression are united by the word „landscape“.Raul Meel who is working with language, instantly rises above it. Either it is a letter or number, even in his most mechanical shapes and technological approaches, one can’t find the confrontation between culture and nature. The paintings of Robert Viola depict the ground part of industrial depths. Immense ship wrecks are the tip of the iceberg, which underwater part is telling the story of the illusional richness of a mankind, that might end up in a lonely journey of a beduin. In Viola’s diversity of painting techniques, we can see the awe of the steel giants, as well as experience of rust and temporality.

Kaarel Kurismaa / Carine Kraus 11.09–30.12.2012All is movement here. Carine Kraus delicately depict the motion of the human body through discontinued time in her figural paintings. She forces us into a standstill within a rushing thought. To this timelessness, glowing through the fog, the temporal measure of living and moving is given by Kaarel Kurismaa’s world of objects that rings and sounds and shouts, made of lucky chance and loving care, and hes gently flowing abstrct paintings as a backround.

They form an impressive pair - a shortish plump Japanese in a black suit who cuts his way with a sword if necessary, and the heavily pregnant Bride in a white dress and military boots, with an Uzi under her arm.

I do not have the strength to paint flesh, meat, or the surface nide line. It’s too obvious. Paint time, member-ship, existence, that I can!

Robert Viola

Bare essentials.Where an image appeared too static he built series, so a phrase turned into a story. Where a colour or a figure asked for more life, he added a pulsating pattern, a rhytm.

Raul Meel

Flashing lightning appear while shadows carry the overwhelming sequence of all the eye can see apart from the few exceptions ready to reveal the real as well as the imaginary of this world.
