The article is the first attempt in the history of the Ossetian literary studies to interpret Kh.Tsomaev’sunique endeavor. The author tries to trace the ideological and artistic interests of the writer, his worldviews as a result of interaction of the poet’s artistic conscience with reality, based on the poem «War».Unlike typical reader’s attempts to learn the writer’s artistic and creative nature, the author of the articlefocuses on the form and the contents of the poem in their unity.

The article is devoted to epistolary genre of the 18th century and linguistic features of Laurence Sterne«sletter-writing style.

General features of epistolary texts are studied together with peculiar features of sentimentalism andindividual features of Laurence Sterne«s style.
