History of the Forum

After my university career in Frankfurt, I opened my practice in 1972 in a suburb of Frankfurt. Among other

medical activities mainly was my focus on phlebology. The mini surgery, which I had been devising in the

sixtees, came here to its importance.

In 1977 I opened my private clinic in the center of Frankfurt, where was also a small hospital unit with four

beds. After several years I was able to show and my method to the colleagues and share it with them. As the

interest in my work, my method and my results was very well received, I decided to organize a conference, or

rather a workshop. Thereby I passed my knowledge and created a platform for the mini surgery, where mainly

practical topics were discussed.

I organized the first workshop in Bad Soden, a spa town near Frankfurt. This lasted for tree days, so I thought

a little relaxation at the same time could be there too. In a small room of a restaurant I was planning about 30

colleagues, but they came over 50. For the next year were about 100 guests registred. So I had to relocate to the

spa hotel, where the spa gardens gave a very nice frame for the meeting.

However, the transport of so many people was a problem, and therefore I had decided to move the next meeting

to Frankfurt.

Spa hotel in Bad Soden

I organized the third workshop in the „Frankfurter Hof“, but the rooms were not for our needs perfectly, so we

were looking for another hotel.

Frankfurter Hof

Because that time I performed operations in my clinic, the conference had to be close to my clinic. Also, I have

set the duration of the meeting for two days.

From the 4th to 24th Workshop took place at the Arabella (later Westin) Hotel. The location and the rooms

were perfect, but sometimes we had to share some space with several other events.

Fridays I operated in the clinic 4-5 patients and the interventions were transferred to the cinema remodeled

clinic rooms. This program was so popular that after a few years more than 100 colleagues came. I had to hold

several classes in a row, so could get all the seats.

Such a live program has so much trouble with the organization, that I had chosen to held a so-called „semi-live

video tape demonstrations“ in a large hall of the hotel. The previously recorded operations were configured

without cutting. This program had several advantages: You could show and discuss the cases much better

through stopping and repeating the movie. In addition, the number of participants was not limited, anymore.

Westin

Grandhotel

Since 2011, 25th Workshop, the venue is in the „Le Méridien Parkhotel“. The relocation was due to

renovations of the Westin Grand Hotel. The Le Méridien Parkhotel has several advantages for our event, so we

diceded to stay there.

I did not want the meeting as a „local hero“ remains. So over the years several foreign phlebological societies

and the German Professional Association of Lymphology connected us.

By 1993 as many colleagues participated in, that a need arose to establish an international organization that

carries on this mini surgical ideas and practices and upholds our flag. Worldwide, there was great interest in

this. Slowly many companies have joined us. The list can also be seen in in the program.

We hope that this cycle will be extended further!

94

The idea of atraumatic surgery is becoming more and more

noticeable within all surgical disciplines.

Leading this development for many years, I am very pleased to

see that this is also the case for the Phlebology.

To promote this technique and to solve problems, this

world wide known society was founded.

95

I established the

International Workshop for

Phlebology,

Lymphology and Angiology

on March 27th. 1987

Now we proceed the 27th Workshop.

96

I founded the

International Forum for

Minisurgery

on March 20th, 1993

Since then, it has over 1500 members

The Workshop is the annual meeting.

97

On march 20. March 1993 the

International Forum for Minisurgery of

Varicose Veins was founded in Frankfurt, Germany

Time of

foundation The

foundation is

growing

98

The forum represents a community of interests and a

scientific work group with the

main purpose to acquire the appropriate appreciation

for the minisurgery method.

Because I hold contacts in this issue world wide I would

like

to join the activities in other countries with this society

99

100

The society has more than

1500 members worldwide

Once a year a meeting is organized.

The forum organizes courses, educations and

access to international literature.

Once a year a congress book, from 2009 a DVD

will be released.
