New Variable Star 1.1903 Aurigae. To the list of variable stars should be added BD.

+53?979, 9m3, whose place for 1855.0, as given in the BD., is RA. = 5 h 5 0 m 3 ? ~

Decl. = + 5 3 O 1619 . On May I of last year this star was fully a magnitude

fainter than one of the tenth magnitude which lies about 1' to the s. f. On Dec. 6 the s.f. star was again the brighter

of the two, although the difference amounted then to only half a magnitude. Yesterday, however, the variable sur- passed its neighbour by om5 at the least, and possibly by as much as om?.

As regards the identification of this variable with BD. +53?979, it is, of course, quite possible that the entry in

~ the BD. Verzeichnis may really refer to the combined light of the variable and its s. f. neighbour.
