A In the same issue, that of May 8th, an outline oi�a re-organization of California state criminal bureaus in- -dicated that four investigators are to be assigned to conductinvestigations to assist County officials in prosecuting themore advanced types of criminals. There was, as I recall it, Jan indication of scientific training of these investigators. _ '

I discussed this matter with Special Agent Hickey, who hasinformed me that Reporter Desmond of the Philadelphia PublicLedger had conferred with Hickey prior to the publication ofthe article referred to, and Hickey claims that at that timehe informed Desmond of the proper title of this Bureau. Hol-ever, the reporter or the officials of the newspaper failedto properly describe the Bureau in the newspaper account.

Bureau has called newspaper accounts of a similar nature to ymy attention within the past few days, informing of failure of .newspapers to properly describe the Bureau. Such a situationis, of course, regrettable, and, during my short tenure in thisoffice, I have already taken steps to prevent repetitions of _the foregoing. I had a pleasant conversation a few days ago.with Mr. F. F. I-Zckrdle, a reporter representing the PhiladelphiaInquirer. I have also had pleasant conversations with ReporterDesmond of the Philadelphia Public Ledger and Reporter McLaughlinof the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin. -

As I informed the Bm-eau in a previous communication, I intendto make the personal acquaintance of the city editors and othernewspaper officials at an early date. The reporters mentiomdherein I am certain now have a ccnplete understanding of thecorrect title of this Bureau and, I have every reason to believe,feel friendly to this office. I intend to exert every effortto alleviate the conditions called to my attention within the pasfew days, in reference to inaccuracies in press accounts, by
