BRUNNER is a traditional family business, a leading

manufacturer of wood stoves. In our HKD 2.2 cast

iron stove inserts we put all the knowledge and

experience as well as our own attitude that made

us wide known over the recent decades — to offer

the best of all fireboxes that are currently available

on the market.

Now, this durable firebox can be set up quickly as

a true accumulation stove — available together

with a complete set of cladding materials at very

reasonable prices.

The Heat Storage.a

A “true” Heat Storage or Accumulation Stove is designed to transfer the available energy of hot

combustion gases into a ceramic storage container or accumulation mass. The combustion gases

stream out from the firebox through the channels of a ceramic body. It was always the basic principle

of true accumulation stoves and this is how all BRUNNER System stoves work.

Accumulation stoves featuring the mild, long lasting heat radiation are known especially as beautiful

tiled stoves — with the following advantages:

m Top heating power level is a little lower than in the case of conventional warm-air or wood-burning

stoves, but lasts significantly longer.

m The mild radiation of heat determines the heat transfer behavior. The amount of heat taken by the

storage block is radiated through the surface of stove cladding.

m During combustion, the intense heat radiation through the glazed door provides fast and

immediate heating effect.

If a “middle-weight” or “heavy” accumulation stove is required, we recommend the choice of

a handcrafted tiled stove.

System stoves by BRUNNER offer a perfect combination of fire watching experience, fast heating effect

and mild heat radiation over many hours.

Based on their design principle, the BRUNNER System stoves belong to the “light-weight” type. Depending

on stoking periods, the following heating power levels may be reached:

Comfort of Use.a

Combustion air supply can be

set by hand using only one

control element. It is so simple

and easy as it sounds.

But who wants more, will probably choose our electronic combustion control system EAS. You just

need to ignite or reload, everything else will be adjusted by electronic controls. Perfect efficiency is

guaranteed, because the EAS actuator will never forget when to reduce or shut off the combustion air

supply after a completed burn-up cycle. This is a great advantage, especially when you do not wish to

operate the stove after fire has been lit — if you want to bed or leave the house, for example.

Most important functions of a fireplace are automated.

With top-mount storage mass.

Assembly.a

The fireclay storage mass of a BRUNNER System stove is enclosed by thermal

concrete cladding.

In case of a top-mount storage mass, it is a modular system with double-

layered fireclay rings. The inner core design is suitable for the thermal load of a

HKD 2.2 Series stove insert. Due to their design, the double-layered accumulation

modules are set up without adhesives and create a tight storage block.

The stove cladding consists of precisely fitted and statically stable thermal

concrete with inner reinforcement.

The stove insert is placed on a base plate and the remaining parts are set up

according to the installation sequence shown above.

For all models except BSO 01, it must be considered that the air intake opening in

the bottom area of the stove must be arranged according to optical and structural

conditions on site. It must be made the same way as for the required connecting

piece opening, using a cutting disc, a jigsaw or a core drill. For the machining of

thermal concrete cladding we recommend diamond-tipped tools (drills, jigsaw

blades, core drilling crowns and files).

If the stove shall have external air supply, it has to be provided directly after the

installation of the stove insert is completed.

20

Installation procedure for BSO 01. Only the most important steps are shown.

BSO 01 with top-mount storage mass, consisting of double-layered, spiral modules.

Air intake

Page 21: Brunner Systemöfen englisch

The stove insert, the external cladding and the storage block are placed on base plates. Both plates must be first

laid on a plane surface and properly aligned. Then the components of the storage block and the stove cladding

are assembled.

The molded bricks of the free-standing heat storage mass consist of a fireclay compound. They are assembled

together with the supplied grouting (Orfix). The materials of the storage block will reach their final strength after

the initial burn-up procedure.

A stove with the free-standing storage block has to be completely covered up to ensure longer storage times.

The openings for both connecting pieces are prepared with a cutting disc, a jigsaw or a core drill.

Our Recommendation:

Plastered walls.a

For the plastered walls of our stoves we offer a specially developed, high temperature resistant

plastering system. First, the concrete cladding surface must be cleaned with abrasive paper. When

the surface is smooth and free of dust, a glassfiber mesh is laid using the ORTNER “Creme” adhesive

mortar. The glassfiber mesh serves as reinforcement for the thin plaster.

The working procedure is limited to applying two layers only:

m The contact & embedding layer for the glassfiber mesh laid on thermal concrete (2 - 4 mm).

m The clean or final layer (1 - 4 mm thickness).

The surface can be finished with different techniques including rubbed or solid plaster finish.

The natural colour tone after drying out is clear white. Painting is allowed, but only with acceptable

painting materials for heated walls.

Caution:

m Plastered walls must be free of dust

and roughened

m Never use polymer modified paints,

latex paint etc.

22

"Creme" adhesive mortar, 20 kg 0 - 1.2 mm

(natural base materials, fiber-reinforced with no synthetic components, neutral odour)

Other finishing techniques including our “Glattspachtelputz” or “Modellierputz” plaster

mixtures are only allowed with “Haftmörtel Grey” mortar and glassfiber mesh. Please follow

the manufacturer's instructions (see product data sheet)!

Note: For BSO 3 with plastered finish, the connection between the stove body and heating wall

must be left as "shadow joint" (risk of cracks and fissures).
