Ausgehend von Europa, Deutschland und Berlin als einer Stadt, die mit der Welt im Dialog steht, setzt sich die 10. Berlin Biennale für zeitgenössische Kunst mit den anhaltenden Ängsten und Sorgen unserer heutigen Gegenwart auseinander. Mit dem Verweis auf Tina Turners Song We Don’t Need Another Hero aus dem Jahr 1985 nimmt sie Bezug auf eine Zeit unmittelbar vor großen geopolitischen Verschiebungen, die mit Regimewechseln und neuen historischen Protagonist*innen einhergingen. Die10. Berlin Biennale liefert keine kohärente Interpretation von Geschichte(n) oder Gegenwart. Sie erkundet vielmehr das politische Potenzial von Strategien der Selbsterhaltung. Starting from the position of Europe, Germany, and Berlin as a city in dialogue with the world, the 10th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art confronts the incessant anxieties of our time. By referencing Tina Turner’s song from 1985, We Don’t Need Another Hero, it draws from a moment directly preceding major geopolitical shifts that brought about regime changes and new historical figures. The 10th Berlin Biennale does not provide a coherent reading of histories or the present of any kind. Instead,it explores the political potential of the act of self-preservation.
