Johann Sebastian Bach: Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam Christ our Lord came to the Jordan (Cantata 7) Today’s Gospel is St Mark’s account of the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, in the River Jordan. The cantata dwells on this event, and has a libretto based on a hymn by Martin Luther. The ensemble of strings, oboes d’amore, bassoon and organ includes two solo violins, and arias for solo alto, tenor and bass.
