In diesem Buch setzen sich Vertreter der Medizin, Psychologie und Soziologie, Psycho- pathologie und der medizinischen Soziologie kritisch mit den Thesen von Illich auseinan- der. Sie bemiihen sich dabei um Sachlichkeit und verfallen nicht etwa in die Polemik von Illich, der zweifellos mit vielen Bemerkungen uber die moderne Medizin im Recht ist, seinen Lesern aber nus eine ,,soziale Utopie" anbietet, indem er auf eine schlussige Argu- mentation verzichtet. Uberzeugend wird gezeigt, da8 Illich die Entmythologisierung der Medizin anstrebt und die so wichtige ArztPatient-Beziehung auf eine illusiondose Basis stellen will; das kann dem Kranken oder seinen Angehorigen jedoch keine Hilfe sein. Es gilt, mehr Vertrauen zwischen Arzt und Kranken zu schaffen und sich nicht etwa auf die Position zuriickzuziehen, da8 den Xrzten die ,,Macht" entrissen werden miif3te.

Ein lesenswertes Buch, das nicht nur dem Arzt neue Erkenntnisse iiber seinen eigenen Standort zu vermitteln vermag, sondern auch fiir Laien geeignet ist und im ubrigen einen interessanten Ausblick auf die Gesundheit eroffnet, von der gesagt wird, dab sie nicht durch die Medizin vermarktet werden konnte, sondern vermehrt ein Anliegen der Erzie- hungswissenschaf t w erden m a t e .
