Mission Statement: Catholic Daughters of the Americas strives to embrace the princi-

ple of faith working through love in the promotion of justice, equal-

ity and the advancement of human rights and human dignity for all.

OFFICERS

Dear CDA Sisters,

I think the biggest thing we can say is that we have entered into a new

year. We can look back on 2016 that will be in the history books be-

cause of our national election; good and bad things have happened in our

nation but as a United nation we will weather the storm until the seas are

calm. With the guidance of our church we can look forward to a brighter

future

Hopefully as a court we come together at the convention and have a

voice in our state management. If we don’t step up and have a voice

then we can’t complain about how things are run. We have to be proac-

tive in our court so our voices will be heard plus it will be a great experi-

ence to come together with other Texas CDA members as Texas has the

largest membership.

I have been very impressed by the CDA members who work with the

Compassionate Committee. We have had several church members who

have gone to be with the Lord this year and the Compassionate Commit-

tee puts on a remarkable reception for the family of the deceased mem-

ber. This reception allows family and friends to come together to share

memories of their loved ones over home baked goodies and drinks.

May God continue to bless you.

with all your heart and with all your soul

and with all your mind.’ This is the first

and greatest commandment. And the sec-

ond is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as

yourself.’” Matthew 22:37–39

“Prayer in action is love, and love in action is service. Try to give uncondi-

tionally whatever a person needs in the moment. The point is to do something,

however small, and show you care through your actions by giving your time…

We are all God’s children so it is important to share His gifts.” St. Teresa of

Calcutta.

State Convention:

Our 50th Biennial State Convention will be held April 20-23, 2017 at the Om-

ni Hotel in Corpus Christi. There will be 9 delegates and 8 alternates. Please

give careful consideration to representing our court. Election will be at our

February meeting.

Local News

Valentine Bake Sale: Our bake sale will be February 11 & 12.

Chairpersons for the sale are Norma Locker and Josie Trevino. I for one am

looking forward to purchasing one or more of these home made goodies.

Mass Enrollments: Please contact Jeanette Hudec if you need to

purchase CCSF Mass cards. They make great anniversary and birthday gifts

and will lift up the spirits of a person who has had surgery or been ill. The

funds they generate go to very good cause---supporting seminarians.

Education Contest: Pat Haley, our chair, is doing a wonderful job

on this contest. We look forward to the results.

Canned Goods: Since our adopted family has moved on we will col-

lect canned goods at each meeting to donate to Catholic Charities.

Scholarship: Doris Gurecky, our longtime chair, is finalizing the appli-

cations and will soon announce the winner.

Apostolate: Carol Hollas and Elena Kempton helped host the Fort Bend

Senior Care Center party on November 11. We carried out the

Veteran Day Theme with patriotic music while serving refresh-

ments. On December 9, Gloria Mican and Nancy Hockaday as-

sisted me with refreshments while Genine Champagne enter-

tained the residents with a Christmas Music Program. Joyce

Bowker and Delores Wolff also came to join in the caroling. On

January 13, Pat Schimara and Jeannette Hudec assisted me in

serving the resident refreshments. Thank you to all these ladies

for their participation in making the days brighter for the resi-

dents. ~ By Rose Pederson
