September”.“You are not going!” cries uncle Vernon.“And I suppose a great muggle like you can stop him” says Hagrid.“A what?” asks Harry.“A ‘muggle’ is what we call non-magic folk like them” explains Hagrid.Hagrid gets angry and shouts “This boy is going to Hogwarts and he is meeting the finestheadmaster in the world: Albus Dumbledore”. So he takes Harry away.

Hagridgives it to him together, with a note fromProfessor Dumbledore. “It’s about You-Know-What in vault You-Know-Which” he whispers.Harry cannot quite follow their conversation.The goblin takes them to vault 713, where thereis nothing but a small packet Hagrid takes.Later they go to Ollivanders’ to get a wand.After different attempts Mr. Ollivander finds theright wand for Harry and exclaims “Curious,very curious… The Phoenix, whose tail featheris in your wand, only gave another destined tothe one who gave you that scar. The wandchooses the wizard, Mr. Potter” explains

Ollivander. “You are destined to great thingsMr. Potter”.Hagrid arrives and gives Harry an owl as abirthday present.Now Harry knows:• not all wizards are good, some of them go bad,

like Voldemort;• He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named killed his

parents and gave him the scar;• the scar on his forehead is the mark of a curse;• nobody knows where Voldemort is;• Harry has something that hit Voldemort that

night, that’s why he is still alive and famous.

The Hogwarts Express leaves from platform 9¾ but Harry cannot find it. Hopefully he meetsthe Weasleys, a red-headed family. “Just walk straight at the wall betweenplatforms 9 and 10. If you’re worried run!” thered-headed woman says. So he does.On the Hogwarts Express Harry sits down andrelaxes. “Hi, I’m Ronald Weasley and it’s my first yearat Hogwarts” he says. “Nice to meet you, Ron. I’m Harry Potter”.“Wow! Harry Potter… So you are not alegend… and you have the scar!” Ron says inastonishment. Later they meet Hermione Granger who repairsHarry’s glasses with an incredible spell.The train arrives at Hogwarts.There Professor McGonagall welcomes them.“You must be sorted into your houses” sheexplains. “There are 4 houses: Gryffindor,Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Whileyou are at Hogwarts your house is like yourfamily; if you triumph your house earns points

but any rule-breaking and your house losespoints. At the end of the year the house with themost points wins the house cup”.“Harry Potter… I’m Draco Malfoy” a boy says,smiling awfully. “You see Harry, some wizardfamilies are better than others, so I can help youmake friends with the right sort”. Harry refuses.Professor Dumbledore tells the school rules: theDark Forest is strictly forbidden to all studentsand the third floor corridor is out of bounds.“Now” says Professor McGonagall “when I callyour name, please go forth, sit on this chair, andput the hat on, to be sorted”. All the students areexcited, they all want to be sorted in a particularhouse. It’s Harry’s turn. Everyone keeps quietand looks at him.Harry puts the hat on and a small voice says“Not Slytherin, eh! Then he falls down and CRACK! “Broken wrist”, Madam Hooch says. “Let’s goto the hospital wing”. Then she turns to theother students and tells them to wait and leavetheir brooms where they are.

Malfoy says “Look at Longbottom’s stupidface and at that stupid thing Longbottom’sgranny sent him!”. Malfoy shows everyonethe remembrall. “Give it here, Malfoy!” says Harry, quieter.Malfoy smiles nastily: “No, I’ll leave itsomewhere for Longbottom to find. What aboutup a tree?” Malfoy takes off. Harry mounts his broom and follows Malfoy.Draco throws the glass ball into the air. Harryleans forward and, in a second, catches the ball.“HARRY POTTER!” Professor McGonagall isrunning towards him.“Potter, follow me please”. ProfessorMcGonagall goes inside the building lookingfor Wood, one of the students. “Mr. Wood, thisis Harry Potter, your new Seeker” she says.“Are you serious, Professor?”.“Absolutely! The boy is a natural”. Then sheturns towards Harry and says “but I want youto train harder, I can change my mind aboutpunishing you”.
