Selected reviews

„As good as Hegedus presented himself with other standard composers on his

marathon concert, it was with the music of Liszt that he became a breathing

incarnation of this 19th-century music legend. This guest soloist pulled timbres out of

the Fazioli grand piano which dazzled and amazed.” (by Jeff Manookian – Salt Lake

City)

„A musician like Hegedus would have been a celebrated virtuoso in Liszt’s time. There

is hardly any pianist who could interpret Liszt in more authentic, affectionate and

passionate manner. (…) It applies to Hegedus’s performance what Ignaz Moscheles

once said about Liszt: „He does anything he wants to and does it splendidly; the hands

risen high in the air strike down only seldom on a wrong key.” (by Jan Björn Potthast –

Süddeutsche Zeitung)

" Endre Hegedus (…) proves to be a pianist of great talent. His Chopin is at time fast

and diabolical but also subject to deep reverie when called for. The lyrical passages

drag you into the music like very few versions I know. Fazil Say's devilish fingers can go

faster still but he reaches not the level of poetry Hegedus demonstrates here." (Frederic

Deubot)

„The next time pianist Endre Hegedus comes to town, you ought to hear him. The

Hungarian virtuoso gave a spectacular recital at the Old Church on Friday evening

(Oct. 12) of works by Chopin and Liszt, including a rarely heard Liszt fantasy of Bellini’s

“Norma” and a Liszt transcription of Wagner’s “Tannhauser.” Hegedus plays with a

style that makes the piano sing and at the same time has a genuine, earnest feeling.”

(Northwest Reverb)

„The Drawing Room of Muckross House, Killarney is an exquisitely intimate venue in

which to experience music, especially when the performer is as articulate, sincere,

musical, and technically exciting as the Hungarian virtuoso, Endre Hegedus. He is an

artist whose recordings I will seek out in the future.” (by Dr. Declan Townsend - Killarny)

“Music gives my life fulfillment. After more than 3,500

appearances I still believe that the pianist’s primary duty is

to love his audiences and to present them devotedly and

arduously with masterpieces chiseled with utmost care,

enthusiasm, and labor over months and years. The long

hours of daily practicing are an incredible source of joy to

me. So much so that I cannot keep it to myself but must

pass it on to the largest possible audiences in the greatest

number of places in the world. … This is the raison d’etre of

my existence and the motivation of my zeal driving me to

continue until my hands can bear. – All of it comes, as

everything in my life, from God’s grace.”
