Salzgitter Mannesmann Rohr SachsenStahlrohre aus Sachsen haben eine lange Tradition, die bis in das Jahr 1907 – der Inbetriebnahme der ersten Anlage zum Walzen nahtloser Rohre in Riesa – zurückreicht. Im Mai 1961 erfolgte die Grundsteinlegung für die Errichtung eines neuen Rohrwerkes des VEB Stahl- und Walzwerk Riesa in Zeithain.

1965 wurde als erste Warmwalzstraße das Rohrwerk III (Stiefelstraße) in Betrieb genommen, das 1990 stillgelegt wurde. 1978 wurde als zweites Warmrohrwerk das Rohrwerk IV (Rohrstoßbank) errichtet. Die Mannesmannröhren-Werke Sachsen GmbH, Zeithain wurden 1991 als hundertprozentiges Tochterunternehmen der Mannesmannröhren-Werke AG, Mülheim an der Ruhr gegründet und erwarb anschließend das Rohrwerk Zeithain. Seit dieser Zeit wurde erheblich in die Anlagen technik des Rohrwerkes IV investiert, insbesondere in Prozessleit- und Prozessführungssysteme.

Anstelle der bisher genutzten Lochpresse wird seit Februar 2008 in Zeithain erstmals auf der Welt ein Drei-Walzen-Schrägwalz-werk mit einer Stoßbank kombiniert. Durch dieses innovative Konzept wurde die Produktionskapazität von 170.000 t/Jahr auf 205.000 t/Jahr erhöht. Damit ist das Rohrwerk in Sachsen ei-ner der leistungs fähigsten Hersteller im Marktsegment naht loser Rohre mit kleinen Durchmessern und zugleich die modernste Rohrstoßbankanlage Europas. Durch diese Investi-tion wird gewährleistet, dass das nahtlose Stahlrohr höchsten Qualitätsanforderungen genügt. Die Salzgitter Mannesmann Rohr Sachsen GmbH produziert überwiegend nahtlose Vorrohre für die Präzisrohrwerke der Salz-gitter-Gruppe im Durchmesserbereich von 17,2 bis 114,3 mm mit einer Wanddicke von 2,0 bis 16 mm und darüber hinaus adjustierte Stahlrohre bis 89 mm Durchmesser sowie Kompo-nenten für die Automobilindustrie.

Salzgitter Mannesmann Rohr SachsenSteel tube production has a long tradition in Saxony, starting in 1907 with the commissioning of the first rolling mill for seamless tubes in Riesa. In May 1961, the groundbreaking for the new tube mill of the VEB Stahl- und Walzwerk Riesa took place in Zeithain.

In 1965, the first hot-rolling mill, Tube Mill III (Plug Mill), went into operation, which was decommissioned in 1990. The second hot-rolling mill, Tube Mill IV (Push Bench), was built in 1978. Mannesmannröhren-Werke Sachsen GmbH, Zeithain, was founded in 1991 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Mannesmannröhren-Werke AG, Mülheim an der Ruhr. Since this acquisition considerable investments have been made in the plant technology of the Tube Mill IV. These investments were focused mainly on modernizing computer technology to improve the process control of the equipment.

The previous piercing press in Zeithain had been replaced by the combination of a three-roll piercing elongating mill (TPE mill) with the existing push bench which went into operation in February 2008. It is the first plant of its kind in the world. This investment will raise production capacity from 170,000 tons to 205,000 tons a year. The Zeithain Tube Mill combines highest performance in the small-scale program segment and at the same time the most modern push bench facility in Europe. This investment ensures steel tubes production to the highest quality standards. Vorteile des TPE-Verfahrens

Das TPE (Three Roll Piercing Elongating)- Verfahren ist Grund-lage der erstmals weltweit vereinten Anlagenkombination aus einer Stoßbank und einem 3-Walzen-Schrägwalzwerk.Das Verfahren wurde in mehreren Versuchsreihen von Mit-arbeitern der Salzgitter Mannesmann Rohr Sachsen GmbH und V&M Deutschland GmbH auf dem Versuchswalzwerk des Vereins zur Förderung der Umform- und Produktionstechnik (VFUP e. V.) in Riesa entwickelt. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung GmbH, Duisburg konnte nachgewiesen werden, dass sowohl die geplanten Material-einsparungen (Ausbringen) als auch die Qualtitätsverbesserun-gen (Hohlblockoberfläche, Exzentrizität) erreicht werden.Nachdem die bisher genutzte Lochpresse Ende 2007 ausgebaut wurde, hat im Frühjahr 2008 die neue Anlage in Zeithain den Betrieb aufgenommen. Der deutlich längere Blockeinsatz (statt bisher 90 cm nun maximal 190 cm) ermöglicht eine nachhaltige Leistungssteigerung des Walzwerks.

Leistungssteigerung durch das TPE-VerfahrenAufgrund der neuen Anlagenkombination ist das Rohrwerk Zeithain eines der leistungsfähigsten Rohrwerke im kleinen Programmsegment weltweit. Mit dieser einzigartigen Anlage ist sowohl reduzierendes als auch aufweitendes Walzen möglich, wodurch eine optimale Fertigung möglich ist und das produ-zierte Stahlrohr höchsten Qualitätsanforderungen genügt.

Advantages of the TPE process

The TPE (Three Roll Piercing Elongating) process is the basis of the world’s first linked combination of push bench and 3-roll elongator.The process was developed in several series of experiments by employees of Salzgitter Mannesmann Rohr Sachsen GmbH and V&M Deutschland GmbH at the R&D rolling mill of the VFUP e.V. (Association for the Promotion of Deformation and Production Technology) in Riesa. In collaboration with SalzgitterMannesmann Forschung GmbH, Duisburg, it was proved that the process achieves both the planned savings in materials (output) and the improvements in quality (hollow surface, eccentricity).Having dismantled and removed the previously used piercing press at the end of 2007, the new plant went into operation in Zeithain in early 2008. By virtue of a significantly longer billet length (now up to 74.803 inches instead of the previous 35.433 inches) the rolling mill is able to achieve a sustained increase in output.

Increased productivity from the TPE process Thanks to the new plant configuration the Zeithain mill is now one of the high performance mills in the small-scale program segment worldwide. Using this plant it is possible to perform both reducing and expanding rolling, as a result of which an optimum manufacturing process can be achieved and the steel tubes produced satisfy the highest quality standards.

The hot saws cut off the hollow head.

The walking beam furnace reheats the cooled hollows.

In the stretch-reducing mill the hollow achieves the final diameter and wall thickness without internal tool.

The layer saws cut multiple tube sections in customer lengths.
