EVENTS WEDNESDAY 6 TH MARCH 3 Manfred Bischoff - Bruno Martinazzi — 10:00–19:00 Maurer Zilioli-Contemporary Arts, Brescia, Amalienstraße 21 kunstbüro reillplast 6.3.–10.3. 10:00–19:00 Aperitivo Maurer Zilioli – Contemporary Arts,Brescia, Manfred Bischoff – Bruno Martinazzi kunstbüro reillplast Amalienstr. 21 8.3. 17:00–19:00 From Brescia, Italy, Maurer Zilioli Contemporary Arts will be showcasing two artist/goldsmiths deemed legends of the field. The work of Bruno Martinazzi (IT) and Manfred Bischoff (DE) converge on grounds beyond that of noble material preference, but also through their shared geographical territory and subtle reference points. Turin-born Martinazzi inherited a devotion to Italy’s visual history, while Bischoff’s references are chosen and interpreted more freely. Dr. Ellen Maurer-Zilioli, gallerist and president of MZ Contemporary Arts, comments on the pair: "For all this complex artistic directionality, what ultimately emerges into the focus of perception are idiosyncratic pieces of jewellery, bearing witness to an irresistibly fragile yet stunningly evident beauty that is on occasion presented with an absurd or ironic twist." The exhibition will boast a perfectly digestible amount of work between the two artists. If you’re new to contemporary jewellery, be sure to stop here at the very least (!); it’s a prerequisite to what else is out there, a must see, contemporary jewellery 101, if you will. And the best part is that the exhibition is hosted by the contemporary art gallery, Kunstbüro Reillplast, representing a school of young, but very able artists. CO is excited to see what kind of fresh fine-art eyeballs will land on this work consequently. Maurer-Zilioli always aims to bridge the gap between contemporary jewellery and contemporary art; after all, the gallery doubles as a Cultural Association aimed to do to just that, and we are oh- so thankful! Choonsun Moon, Heejoo Kim, Hyorim Lee, Yeonsoo Kim. 6.3.–12.3. 10:00–19:00 Schmuck malen will feature the work of three jewellers: Hyorim Lee, Heejoo Kim, and Choosun Moon, as well as painter, Yeonsoo Kim, all from Korea, each with various training in Germany which brings them together for this exhibition. Lee’s work should overlap quite nicely with that of Heejoo Kim, both visually and concept wise, speaking of growth, life cycles, and change. Together, their work meanwhile compliments the absentness present in Yeonsoo’s paintings of interior spaces as if they are waiting to be filled with some similar vitality found in the jewellery pieces. Although not super similar aestheti- cally, the repetitive feeling found in Moon’s work mimics life’s potential redundancy in the most delightful of ways, echoing the sentiment of the other three artists indirectly. The exhibition will take place at an artist’s atelier open to the public that hopes to radiate a "private yet liberal atmosphere." 11 Was it a cat I saw ? — 19:00 Micheko Galerie, Theresienstr. 18 Akiko Kurihara, Go Segawa 6.3.–10.3. 11:00–20:00, Sun 11:00–16:00 Akiko Kurihara will be exhibiting new pieces of contemporary jewellery alongside the geometric sculpture of artist, Go Segawa in, Was it a cat I saw? Kurihara’s work aims to highlight a real choice; her decision to use jewellery as another type of creative medium, the size of which just happens to suit her best. And if you look closely, you can see this, as the artist uses irony to make clever yet subtle one-liner pieces. They speak directly to the physical connection as the work bears a very physical weight, humorously rational- izing itself. Her honest and direct approach to jewellery keeps us interested. 12 Aftermath of art jewellery — 19:00 Museum Villa Stuck, Prinzregentenstraße 60, Schmuck aus Oslo und München S.Bronger, E.Chun, I.Resell Elieson, S.Heuser, R.Vethal Stølen, L.Walker, N.Weber, R.Ziegle 7.3.–7.4 (Tue–Sat) 11:00–18:00 Norwegian “jewellery engineer,” Sigurd Bronger, initiated this project by bringing together some of the most innovative contemporary jewellery artists practicing today, four from Oslo and four from Munich*. An aim of the exhibition is to discuss what might be the future direction of the field. Lisa Walker is among the eight participants; a solid choice, as she has been known to constantly push the notion of what can be worn by stimulating such inquisition and her quip pieces. The beyond-unique material choice fellow participant, Stefan Heuser employs in combination with strong conception and self- reference makes this young artist someone to keep a definite eye on… while Eun Mi Chun will too present work of peculiar materiality not to be missed. CO expects this show to be comprehensive, satisfying and delightfully diverse; a true taste of the times and perhaps a clue as to future trends in the world of contemporary jewellery. SCHMUCK Wednesday 6 th March 1 Munich Exhibition Centre (Messegelände München), Hall B1, special shows of the 65th International Trade Fair Munich. www.ihm-handwerk-design.com Schmuck 2013 (see Saturday for more dates/timetable) Schmuck 2013 exhibition is the event this whole week revolves around. Jewellery designer, Bernhard Schobinger, hand chose the 58 artists that will be seen at the International Handwerksmesse during the Handwerk & Design Fair, the traditional site of exhibition. Each artist is showing a distinct and well developed style and trade, and although we sometimes need to explain ourselves in our field, these works have unarguably received the label 'jewellery'. Schmucks' longstanding history also tells us that these pieces will soon become our future icons; at least, the shrines the pieces are presented in make us want to believe it so. The famous Herbert-Hoffman Prize will be awarded to one Schmuck artist at 17.00 on March 9. Talente 2013 Talente is about the appreciation of young (up until the age of 33) design talent. The show presents handpicked designers, not only from the jewellery world, but various other disciplines like glass and ceramics. It's the perfect place to see what’s new from your favourite up-and-coming contemporary jeweller and to get inspired! Contributing designers can only be selected once in their entire career, so now is their chance to shine. Like each year, the winners of the Talente Prize 2013 will be awarded. See who they are on March 9 at 15.30. Exempla 2013- Handwerk bewegt Meister der Moderne 2013 Frame Gallery, Marzee, PlatinaRa CO chose to write about Manon van Kouswijk’s delicate new work for our magazine’s first issue themed The Archetype. Why? She has long been obsessed with everything that resembles the beaded necklace. Van Kouswijk has now found an almost prehistoric link to her long line of work to which she shows a very personal and rooted connection. Amsterdam’s Gallery RA will present a great retrospective of her work, where her series of necklaces,'Perles d' Artistes,' especially ask to be held, worn and be perceived by other makers. Her series of brooches, “Ornamental Residue,” will also show a new direction taken by the artist. Format - Handshake Part of FRAME galleries, the large-scale project, Handshake, unites students and aspiring designers from New Zealand with their idols. Imagine getting to meet your jewellery hero and call them by their first name, let alone get to design a piece with them. A dream. They also produced a book publication where all of their pieces are shown and their stories told. CO is just as excited as the young designers must have been and is keen to see the results of this brave overseas endeavour. On Wednesday at 13.30 pm the curator will introduce us to the artists and heroes from which we hope to hear some more. Kurihara’s work aims to highlight a real choice; her decision to use jewellery as another type of creative medium, the size of which just happens to suit her best. And if you look closely, you can see this, as the artist uses irony to make clever yet subtle one-liner pieces. They speak directly to the physical connection as the work bears a very physical weight, humorously rational-izing itself. Her honest and direct approach to jewellery keeps us interested.

12 Aftermath of art jewellery

— 19:00 Museum Villa Stuck, Prinzregentenstraße 60, Schmuck aus Oslo und München S.Bronger, E.Chun, I.Resell Elieson, S.Heuser, R.Vethal Stølen, L.Walker, N.Weber, R.Ziegle

7.3.–7.4 (Tue–Sat) 11:00–18:00

Norwegian “jewellery engineer,” Sigurd Bronger, initiated this project by bringing together some of the most innovative contemporary jewellery artists practicing today, four from Oslo and four from Munich*. An aim of the exhibition is to discuss what might be the future direction of the field. Lisa Walker is among the eight participants; a solid choice, as she has been known to constantly push the notion of what can be worn by stimulating such inquisition and her quip pieces. The beyond-unique material choice fellow participant, Stefan Heuser employs in combination with strong conception and self-reference makes this young artist someone to keep a definite eye on… while Eun Mi Chun will too present work of peculiar materiality not to be missed. CO expects this show to be comprehensive, satisfying and delightfully diverse; a true taste of the times and perhaps a clue as to future trends in the world of contemporary jewellery.

Schmuck 2013

(see Saturday for more dates/timetable)

Schmuck 2013 exhibition is the event this whole week revolves around.

Talente 2013

Talente is about the appreciation of young (up until the age of 33) design talent.

CO chose to write about Manon van Kouswijk’s delicate new work for our magazine’s first issue themed The Archetype.

Format - Handshake

Part of FRAME galleries, the large-scale project, Handshake, unites students and aspiring designers from New Zealand with their idols.

13 Neuer Schmuck für die Götter

— 19:00 Galerie Handwerk zu Gast in den Antikens-ammlungen, Fri 17:00 Aperitivo R.Baines, P.Bauhuis, M.Bischoff, B.Dittlmann, G.Dobler, D.Huycke, D.Kruger, C.Lühtje, B.Martinazzi, F.Pavan, D.Prühl, G.Rothmann, J.Ryan, P.Sajet, B.Schobinger, H.v.Skal, T.Veenre, G.Visintin.

Tue 10:00-17:00, Wed 10:00 -20:00, Thu closed, Fri, Sat, Sun 10:00-17:00

If this isn’t a superstar list, then we don’t know what is! And with a name like, New Jewellery for the Gods, it shouldn’t be anything but. Represented by Galerie Handwerk, pieces made by this dazzeling cast of 18 contemporary jewellery seasoned veterans will be exhibited in a venue sure to match the high-caliber group of international artists: the Staatliche Antikensammlungen, or the State Collections of Antiques Musuem. The title of the show is allegedly meant to reference the musuem’s collection of Etruscan gold jewellery, and CO thinks this list of contemporary masters can easily live up to their ancient predecessors. If you don’t know one damn thing about contemporry jewellery and are looking for a crash course, this is the show for you. And if it’s gold you’re after, be sure to keep your eye’s peeled for a Italian Maestro or two…

14 Irony Forest

— 20:00 Akademie Galerie, U-Bahn Station Universität.Akihiro Ikeyama, Junwon Jung, Mari Iwamoto

Mon–Sun, Mon-Tue 14-21, Thu-Sat 14:00-21:00, Sun 14:00-18:00

Presented by Akihiro Ikeyama, Junwon Jung and Mari Iwamoto, Irony Forest is “the physical space in which the desire of modern human can be satisfied by nature.” The three students of the Munich Academy of Fine Arts have come together to show their jewellery through an imagined forest that they describe as nature’s abstracted area, uniquely having stimulated a different interpretation by each artist. Look for this delicate piece by Akihiro, Holey Holye “I have always been fascinated by the power and morphology of living things. I have transformed the life force in natural material into my jewellery so that nature and human can coexist closer together. As deer horns are constantly reborn and branching out, I hope one will be able to feel life breathing in myriad and diverse forms.” –Artist statement of Akihiro Ikeyama

15 SCHMUCK-Show 2013

— 19:00-21:00Goldbergstudios, Müllerstr. 46A Live-Präsentation über die Ausstellungen der kommenden Tage, www.schmuck-show.com

Kinga Zobel is at it again with her jewellery catwalk show that she debuted in 2012. After always being surrounded by art jewellery (her mother is Olga Zobel at Galerie Biró), it was only natural for Kinga to develop quite an interest in showcasing the interaction between jewellery, wearer and observer. The Schmuck-Show does just that, while also inviting new, potential collectors and appreciators of contemporary jewellery into her world. Kinga says, “Showing the pleasure of wearing jewellery is the best promotion!” CO is pleased to feature a more in-depth interview in the first edition of our printed magazine.

THURSDAY 7TH MARCH

16 Nine Jewelers at the Bowling Alley — 11:00-17:00 Theresa - Restaurant, Theresienstraße 29, Fallmamal-Umsturz erwünscht... Sungho Cho, Anja Eichler, Beate Eismann, Julia Heineccius, Young-Hee Hong, Wolfgang Löffler,Barbara Schrobenhauser, Gabi Veit, Manuel Vilhena.

7.3-9.3 Fri–Sat 11:00–17:00

Show’s statement: “Let’s fall over – falling over/revolution desired,’ is the concept shared by nine jewellers. Bowling as a principle of life? The ball is rolling, pins are falling and people are cheering. Finally, everything is newly aligned and starts again. What’s the relation to contemporary jewellery? Is it falling over, failing all over or a revolution? One bowling alley, nine answers.”

17 Bucks ‘N Barter

— 11:00-21:00 Galerie Kullukcu, Schillerstraße 23 Katrin Spranger, Nicolas Cheng, Friederike Daumiller, Beatrice Brovia, Hilde De Decker, Richard Elenbaas, Tzu-Ling Lee, Prang Lerttaweewit. Food event by a-n-d studio and Katrin Spranger Thu 17:30-21:00.

7.3.–9.3. (Thu-Sat) 11:00–21:00

Eight artists and designers of diverse backgrounds come together for this three-day event, not only to exhibit work that converges ideas of exchange and the trade of goods, knowledge and ideas, but also to initiate that very action within the audience of the exhibition. “Great attention will be paid to the space definition and concept in order to invite the audience to linger a little longer… to stimulate conviviality through informal lectures in combination with specially conceived food-related experiences…” Prang Lerttaweewit and Kartrin Spranger come together to explore this relationship (surely not to be missed!), while Spranger’s new body of work from her previous series, Best Before, will also be exhibited. Nicolas Cheng will similarly present a new series about beauty and nothingness, which should complement Hilde De Decker’s contribution, as this has been a reoccurring theme for the artist. Jewellery artist, Beatrice Brovia; recent Rietveld Jewellery graduate Richard Elenbaas; and MFA jewellery graduate from Konstfack, Tzu-Ling Lee, will each present work discussing the different avenues of value. Industrial designer, Friederike Daumiller will also be contributing to the exhibition’s concept and design. This “inter-cultural, trans-disciplinary and trans-generational” exhibition is sure to not only be thought-provoking, but a personal investment of the viewer-turned-participant.

18 Volatile Geometria

— 11:00-19:00 Saffeel’s, Barerstraße 63Babette von Dohnanyi

7.3.–10.3. Tue-Fri 11:00–19:00, Sat–Sun 10:00–18:00

The solo presentation of Babette von Dohnanyi’s work, located in the boutique, Saffeel’s, is sure to get the average shopper interested in contemporary jewellery on the sly! Not a bad idea. Babette trained with the Italian maestro, Babetto, and one can see he must have been the one to instil in her a strong devotion to the geometric form.

19 Mind the gap!

— 11:00-23:00 Galerie GEDOKmuc, Elisabethstraße 13 Susanne Elstner, Susanne Holzinger, Christiana Jöckel, Christiane Oexl, Gottlinde Singer, Monika Vesely, Annette Zey

7.3.–10.3. Thu 11:00–23:00, Fri–Sun 11:00–19:00

GEDOK, a female, non-commercial German organization for fine art, applied art, literature and music, and have been participating in Schmuck since 2009. This year they are offering another cross-disciplinary exhibition.

20 Guck ins Schmuckloch...

Schmuck im Guckloch

— 12:00-15:00 Galerie im Raum, Herzog-Rudolfstr. 9Elena Ruebel, Katharina Moch, Lisa Juen, Sina Emrich, Tabea Reulecke Gucklöcher/peekholes: Thu–Sun 24/7, Finissage Sun 11:00–13:00

This three-day window exhibition gives an insight into the varied and contrasting jewellery worlds of the 5 exhibitors: Elena Ruebel’s stringent porcelain and cord compositions (pictured); Katharina Moch’s flamboyant wearable sculptures; Lisa Juen’s sparkling reminiscences; Tabea Reulecke’s journeys to imaginary creatures; and Sina Emerich’s delicate wooden constructions. The title of the show loosely translates to something about looking, peepholes… jewellery… anyway, the group has expressed they’d like to meet you at the opening and maybe there we’ll see exactly what they want us to see.

21 Fragile

— 12:00 Studio K162, Klugstraße 162Christine Demmel, Heike Jacobsen, Renate Scholz

7.3.–10.3. (Thu-Sun) 12:00–20:00

This event, along with only a very few others, will be more like a grab-bag exhibtion; a mystery show if you will, as we don’t have any info to share! We have the idea that Studio K162 is Renate Scholz’s studio, an artist that has done various workshops with the likes of Stefano Marchetti and Giovanni Corvaja, just to give you a clue.

22 Grow

—13:00 Das Geschäft, Rothmundstraße 6Henriette Schuster

7, 8 and 10.3, (Thu, Fri, Sun) 13:00–18:00

Munich based jeweller, Henriette Schuster’s solo show is a bit of a mystery to us as well, but her quiet and delicate jewellery pieces - often featuring hands, houses, and other sentimental forms - intrigue us quite a bit, as well as her equally innocent and almost childlike drawings. We hope to see both at this event, but we’ll have to show up to find out. We hope to be charmed.

23 Lusitania

— 13:00-17:00 F.X. Muschelkalk, Dreimühlenstraße 32Estefânia r. de Almeida, Catarina Dias, Inês Nunes, Pedro Sequeira

7.3.-9.3. (Thu–Sat) 13:00–17:00

Thirsty? Perhaps you need to take the edge of a long day of jewellery pursuing? This might just be the show for you. Four Portuguese Jewellery artists have taken over the Muschelkalk wine shop to exhibit their latest works, part of a unique partnership between the towns of Porto and Lisbon. The shop will meanwhile be hosting a Portuguese wine tasting, for those of you sick of drinking beer! We are looking forward to seeing what this enthusiastic bunch has to show us, whether it’s an installation of 200 Chinese porcelain rings, or a pair of boxer shorts-turned-neck

24 Things I see...

— 14:00 Neues Museum. Staatliches Museum für Kunst und Design, Klarissenplatz, 90402 NürnbergHelen Britton, Ausstellungsgespräch

6.2.–28.4. Tue-Sun 10:00–18:00 Thu 10:00–20:00

If you’re feeling adventurous (or just need a break from Munich) head to Nuremberg to see this impressive layout by Helen Britton at the Neues Museum. She has always been able to show an audience that her output of work is quite copious and impressive, filled with doses of love, sentiment, humour, and hope. Britton’s jewels will be delightfully scattered and displayed amongst large drawings also by the artist, welcome component that compliments the jewellery in a fresh manner.

25 3 STATIONS

To Tie or not to Tie

— 15:00 Artist’s Studios Welserstraße 11Students of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp for Hermès

— 15:00 Atelier Oliver Dopheide, Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, Department of Jewelry & Fashion, Graduates’ works 2006–2012

Like the very best of one-stop-shopping, 3stations is five exhibitions in one spot! Students of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp will present a collaborative project with Hermès entitled, To Tie or not to Tie, which ought to coincide nicely with the work presented by Jewellery and Fashion graduates (2006-2012) of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem.

Dark

— 15:00 Welserstraße 13Atelier Karola Schweinbeck,Jonathan Hens,

Celina Gram, T. +32 498 75 03 55

Dark features bracelets in pewter by Jonathan Hens, also out of Antwerp, part of a new collection called, “The NE -W- AGE,” described as “time, place and gender-tran-scending.” Celina Gram will show an edible jewellery collection, sure to be in stark contrast to the strength and permanence present in Hens work by its very perishable nature.

Gardens of Earth— 15:00 Clubraum, Welserstraße 29-31Bety Majernikova and friends T. +49 152 01911151

Gardens of Earth is an exhibition highlighting the work of Slovak artist, Bety Majernikova, as well as some friends - you’ll have to pay a visit in order to discover them all - yet the show may or may not include the work of Gisbert and Rose Stach, Ulrich Reithofer, Monica Strasser, just to name a few…

Perp Walk

— 15:00 Welserstraße 13Babette Boucher, Nicola Scholz,

Fri 10:00-18:00, Sat 10:00-18:00, Sun 10:00-14:00

We know little about what will be seen at this exhibition, yet if the artists live up to their previous work, we can expect great things.

26 Schlegelschmuck

— 15:00-19:00Nordendstraße 7a/Eingang AdalbertstraßeSofia Björkman, Sophie Hanagarth, Karin Johannson, Benedikt Fischer

7.3-16.03. Fri 11:00-19:00, Sat 11:00-14:00, Sun 11:00-14:00

We jewellers like the body… a lot. Sofia Björkman’s new series, Body Brilliance, on view during this exhibition at Schlege schmuck, provides the perfect example. The artist utilizes photography as means of clearer expression to illustrate the relation-ship her objects might have with the physical body. CO is quite curious to see how the innovative photos will work with fellow exhibitors, Karin Johansson, Benedikt Fischer and Sophie Hanagarth, all three on the rise. Pictured is Hanagrth’s Braid-trophy, a bracelet forged from pure iron. Imagine wearing that thing around your wrist! We’re in love.

27 "craft2eu poetry pop up"

— 16:00-20:00 DearGoods-Garage, Baaderstrasse 65Aude Tahon, Armel Barraud, Ilka Bruse, Lilli Veers, Lucy Casson

7.3.-9.3. Fri, Sat 10:00-20:00

This three day pop-up event will host five European artists brought together to showcase their work described as "magical-material-poetry". Come see what’s new at Craft2eu. "Times like these induce the desire for things created, giving us the excuse for precious lingering and enchanted associations - inspiring and delighting."

28 ConSpiración

— 16:00 Instituto Cervantes, Alfons-Goppel-Straße 7EASD València y Escola Massana

6.3.–11.3. (Mon–Sun) 10:00–19:00

All the artists of ConSpiración are alumni of the Art and Design College of Valencia, Spain (EASD Valencia) and of Barcelona (Escola Massana), and are proudly being hosted by the Instituto Cervantes of Munich. At 16.00 on the 7th during the show’s opening, Antonio Sanchez and Ramon Piug Cuyas will be giving some opening words. Work from over ten artists from each institution will be on display!

29 a²+b²=c²

— 16:00 Café Gartensalon, Türkenstraße 90/Amalienpassage Biquin (Katharina Baur, Sabine Roth) and Jasmin Hess

7.3.–10.3. (Thu–Sat) 10:00–18:00

This show features the new collaborative project, Biquin, created by Katharina Baur and Sabine Roth, the name is abstracted from mathematics and numeral encoding. From what we’ve seen, the jewellery label is comprised of two-toned highly entangled chain pieces. Jasmin Hess is also showing her “re.in.car.nated toys,” in the exhibition, pieces made from old tin car parts. The trio has come together to showcase “no jewellery in triangular shapes. In other words, the Pythagorean theorem is the interface of the exhibitors.”

30 Antje Stutz - Linda Pieri

— 16:00Reichenbachstraße 25, Almstadt Schmuck

7.3-10.3. (Fri-Sun) 11:00-19:00

Antje Stutz and Linda Pieri are the duo that Galerie Felix Almstadt presents this year, a gallery that prides itself on facilitating a relaxing and personal exchange for its visitors. Pieri’s articulated hand pieces made of slate evoke the same feeling of closeness, an interesting juxtaposition to the lightness present in Stutz’s work.

31 Still waters run deep

— 16:00-20:00 Goldbergstudios, Müllerstraße 46AKinga Huber, Orsolya Kecskés, Mária Pecsics, Krisztina Stomfai, Fanni Vékony

7.3.–10.3. (Fri-Sun) 11:00-19:00

Four jewellers and one photo artist, all from Hungary, make up the group, 5Frauen, and they have all come to Munich to show work inspired by water and the circulation of nature. Look for the exhibition in the basement of Goldbergstudios.

32 Made in Vienna

— 16:30-21:00 Galerie Gestalter Bund, Holzstraße 22Katie Gruber, Michelle Kraemer, Viktoria Münzker, Katharina Schmid, Claudia Steiner, Eva Tesarik

7.3.–9.3. Fri–Sat 11:00–18:00

This year there seems to be quite a few geographically themed shows and this one is no exception. The six participants identify themselves as “jewellery artisans,” and although they come from different countries (Austria, England, Luxemburg and Slovakia), they “have identified common ground in Vienna, all of them adopting this city as the centre for their work.” The group is presenting their latest work for the second time in Munich during Schmuck.

33 Schmuck you!

— 17:00 Galerie Biro Junior, Luisenstr. 66 Réka Lorincz, Flora Vági

8.3-16.3 12:00-18:00

The exhibition fittingly titled, Schmuck You!, invites you to “walk on the fine rope we stretched between two seemingly very differ-ent worlds of objects. Our escape from reality, nowadays society, into a fantasy world of colourful toys and plastic, imaginary flowers of a garden carved of wood… Walk and when you get to the middle you will find that there is a peaceful balance and a light pulsation. Like breathing, smiling, sighing…it will all come natural.” -Flora Vági and Réka Lorincz

34 Alles Zeichen

— 17:00 Galerie Christian Pixis,Kurfürstenstraße 7Anna Moll

7.3.–6.4. Tue–Fri 11:00–13:00, 14:00–18:00, Sat 11:00–15:00, Sun 10.3. 11:00–15:00

This event is another grab-bag, another mystery to us! The contemporary art gallery,

Christian Pixis, seems to like to host cross-disciplinary exhibitions, and we think this might be one of them.

35 Dialogue 13 & Dialogue 14

— 17:00-20:00 Atelierhaus Theresienstraße with 84 GHz Theresienstraße 65/AugustenstraßeJewellery Art and Metalwork from London

7.3.–10.3. Fri-Sat 12:00–19:00, Sun 12:00–17:00

Hosted by 84GHz, ‘Home and Away’ is two shows in one showcasing Dialogue Collective’s latest exhibition of jewellery and silversmith-ing. The group consists of London-based makers whose concern is to: discuss, to explore and develop new approaches to design, to fabricate, and to curate and show jewellery and silversmithing as a collaborative process. Thought provoking environments are fundamental to the group, and this exhibition is meant to bring people together through interactive events. The exhibition takes place in the Atelierhaus, where craftsmen and artists have been living and working continuously since 1889. Don’t miss the private view from 17.00–20.00 on Thursday the 7th. Participating artists: Petra Bishai, Sophie Hall, Buddug Wyn Humphreys Victoria King, Darja Nikitina, Paolo Scura; Making Shapes, Margot Sevadjian, Ana Simões, Timothy Information Limited, Aneta Wrobel

7.3.-11.3. Thu–Fri 12:00–20:00, Sat–Sun 10:00–18:00, Mon 10:00–15:00

Curator, Laura Bradshaw-Heap presents ‘Suspended in Pink’, an exhibition with 50 objects from 50 artists, from all over the world. From established makers to recent graduates, ‘Suspended in Pink’ looks to explore what contemporary jewellery is right NOW, with only their colour to tie them together. CO thinks this exhibition is particularly exciting for some of the younger up and coming artists; Sam Hamilton will show a piece from her 3rd year Alchimia series, Praise; Current RISD MFA student, Mallory Westin, is showing for the first time outside the USA and is really someone to keep an eye on… This exhibition should be a fun way to experience singular jewellery pieces up-close and personal, as it’s an invitation to explore tactility without restraint. Due to the large number of participating artists, check out the show’s accompanying book if a little more time to explore is needed!

37 The Lunatic Swing

— 17:00–20:00 Kunstarkaden, Sparkassenstraße 3Attai Chen, Carina Chitsaz-Shoshtary, Sungho Cho, Laura Deakin, Melanie Isverding, Emma Price

“Looking past the confines of the given space, these six emerging contemporary jewellers will exhibit their work on a transformed landscape. Stretching the fabric of convention tight over traditional forms, the dance of light promises to swing to a delirious rhythm.” -Exhibition statement The artists involved are all alumni of Munich’s Academy of Fine Art and all but one still live and work in Munich.

38 Kings of my Blues

— 17:00-21:00 Galerie ARTikel3, Luisenstraße 68Alexander Blank

7.3.–10.3. Thu 17:00–21:00, Fri 11:00–18:00, Sat 11:00–16:00, Sun 11:00–17:00

Are you ready to see what last year’s Schmuck darling, Alexander Blank, has been up to since he took home the 2012 Herbert Hoffman prize? Find out at his solo exhibition that’s sure to reveal details about his complicated relationship with his pieces...

or should we say, his problem kids. Some of his old friends will be featured alongside the new work, which is playfully based on the contemporization of historic cameo in jewellery. For an in depth teaser, check out the first issue of the Current Obsession Magazine where you’ll find process photos and an interview with the artist. "Jewellery: if you do it, do it with dash, youth gone wild, bad to the bone..." –AB

39 Ignoble

— 17:00–21:00 Schwedische Kirche, Schwanthalerstraße 60Hanna Liljenberg, Pernilla Persson, Sanna Svedestedt, Karin Roy Andersson, Lisa Björke

7.3.–10.3 Fri 13:00–18:00, Sat 12:00–19:00, Sun 12:00–15:00

Hanna Liljenberg, Pernilla Persson, Sanna Svedestedt, Karin Roy Andersson, and Lisa Björke will be presenting work that focuses on and discusses jewellery’s allegiance yet disregard of the notion of preciousness, value and perception. (ig)nobel faces fundamental yet at times bothersome complexities that comes with jewellery of all kinds, especially art jewellery…. can content, craftsmanship and time rise up against or even trump that of material value in the outside world? “Our materials are our treasures. At the same time other people often consider them non-precious. We transform, investigate and push the limits of what the material can offer … We want to raise the question of how we price our work and how time is valued. What separates a 2000€ jewellery piece from a 35€?” Check out Hanna Lijenberg’s brooch deceptively made out of nothing more than balsa wood. CO thinks it looks expensive!

40 Christja Tritschler, Jessica Turrell

— 17:00–22:00 Schmuckgalerie Tal20, Tal 20

7.3.–11.3 Mon–Fri 11:00–19:00, Sat 10:00–16:00

Tal20 is a gallery that employs a modern concept of space and jewellery, operated by Waibel-Grotjans and Elke Sunder Plaßmann, both jewellery designers themselves. For Schmuck, they are presenting a duo exhibition with Jessica Turrell, whose aim is to “achieve a tactile delicacy and a weighti-ness that positively encourages touch… along with Christja Tritschler who uses old, traditional techniques in contemporary ways to create her vessels.

41 Table Tools

— 18:00 Galerie P13, Promenadeplatz 13tafelbesteck - outiles de table - table tools

8.3.–10.3 11:00–19:00

Table Tools might be just what it sounds like, featuring silver and steel handcrafted design or limited industrial productions by various designers made for the most unique of table tops and dinner guests. Look for this set inspired by Huber Kinga as well as Italian sculptor Giacometti.

42 FiveOEight on Coffee Break

— 18:00 Projektraum Streitfeld, Streitfeldst raße 33Isabell Busnel, Mara Irsara, Jonas Mace, Elizabeth Auriol Peers, Maria Piana, Simone Ten Hompel, Rachel Terry, Deborah Werbner

7.3.–10.3. Fri–Sat 11:00–18:00, Sun 11:00–17:00

This group of eight silversmiths and jewellers plan to engage and provoke their audience with an interactive installation experience that employs various sensory triggers. The artists say they’ve challenged themselves by experimenting with new materials; new to their practices and for this particular exhibition, coffee is protagonist. Will this exhibition put the step back in your day?

43 Vintage Violence

— 18:15 Antiquariat Dieter Zipprich, Zieblandstraße 2Volker und Brigitte Atrops, Stiftung Villa Bengel Idar-Oberstein

7.3.–10.3. (Mon–Sat) 11:00–18:00, Sun Windowshopping only

For CO Volker Atrops has proved to be an inspirer. He is like an oracle when it comes down to getting questions answered with (even better) questions about the condition of contemporary jewellery. Vintage Violence is a presentation in an antiquarian bookstore, in which he and his wife will expose a not at all dystrophic view on the future of fashion, design and jewellery. Every piece on show is part of an idiom of idiosyncratic ideas that just ask to be questioned, cherished or explained. If you expect an update on the all things contemporary, be warned: this is where history is made!

44 “What I do for you”

— 18:30 Galerie Biro, Zieblandstraße 19, Karl Fritsch

9.3.–16.3. 12:00–18:00

When previously asked what exactly he would be doing for us, Superstar Karl Fritsch said, “Please come and see, I don’t know yet what it will be at Biró, I am still working on it and there is always a bit of an ambition to show something new on the March-in-Munich-schmuck-stage…” Find out what else Mr. Fritsch has to say in the CO magazine in an exclusive interview. What languages do his rings speak, and what do they talk about? We think they’re capable saying almost anything… “…sometimes they talk about love, sometimes they talk about sausages…” What might they talk to you about?

45 All Aboard!

— 18:30 Projektraum, Georgenstraße 66J.Baumeister, Nicole Beck, Despo Sophocleous, Mirei Takeuchi

7.3.–10.3. Fri 12:00–18:00, Sat 12:00–16:00 Sun 12:00–18:00

Exhibition Statement: “Running through an old part of the city, the place felt familiar like we’d been there before. Another turn and another twist, the feeling grew stronger. Being drawn toward something unknown, we found ourselves someplace new. All Aboard!” Power trio Nicole Beck, Despo Sophocleous and Mirei Takeuchi come together to show their work in a jewellery installation. CO is definitely on board, are you?

25+ international jewellery artists respond to the city of Lahti in Finland, creating work that reflects the unity the city provides its visitors. Lahti’s surrounding nature in contrast to the city’s architecture has inspired each artist differently.

47 backyard studio

— 19:00–21:00 Atelier Hefele/Hottner, Thalkirchnerstraße 80Jewellery: Christin Hölscher, Laura RittlingerArt: Theresia Hefele, Oliver Hottner

7.3.–10.3. Fri–Sat 10-19, Sun 11:00–16:00

The exhibition, Backyard Studio, shows the work by young designers Laura Rittlinger and Christin Hölscher. Rittlinger’s work (shown in the photo) is inspired by geometrical and natural forms while using new technologies/materials with traditional handcraft, in a way the artist describes as a bohemian. Hölscher’s RUHR Collection on the other hand was inspired by a fascination with the industrial heritage of the monumental architecture in the ‘Ruhrgebeit’, a densely populated urban area in Germany.

48 Jewellery from Israel

— 20:00 Galerie für Angewandte Kunste, Pacellistraße 6-8Gespräche zur Ausstellung Transit, Zeitgenössischer

1.3.–13.4. Mon–Sat 10:00–18:00, Sun 11:00–17:00

The exhibition “Transit” gives an insight into the current state of contemporary jewellery in Israel. A question asked by the curators is what differentiates Israeli jewellery from that of their German colleagues (and possibly those from other countries as well)? The work presented in the show reflects on issues of war, fear and injustice, as well as the different ways jewellery makers deal with these issues.

FRIDAY 8TH MARCH

49 Masche, Stich und Heisse Happen

— 10:00 Tragbar, Zenettistraße 33Anna Lang, Isabell Enders, Sarah Lierl 8.3.-10.3. Fri 10:00–18:00, Sat 10:00–18:00, Sun 13:00–18:00

Sarah Lierl, co-founder of the Tragbar in Munich shows knitted and crocheted bracelets and necklaces from rubber bands as her latest work. Anna Lang goes in three-dimensional computer designed jewellery objects, which are marked down into two-dimensional ball pen sketches, still giving a whimsical impression of their origin. Isabelle Enders shows new peppermills from the “PfefferMarsch!” line, in which she takes old faucet handles and puts them in an entirely new context, also a small version of her temporary “Café Heißluft”, an eating concept which can be tried on Saturday evening.

HEISSLUFT DINNER

Experimental food for 10 people by

Isabell Enders on Saturday 9 March at 20:00

— 20:00 Tragbar, Zenettistraße 33, 80337 Munich

This is a very special dinner, and even if you don’t manage to be one of the 10 guests at the table, it would still be interesting to see something like this! Isabelle Enders presents a dinner where each guest gets a hot-air gun and gets to grill raw skewers right at his/her seat. CO sincerely hopes there will be no need for a fire extinguisher. Very hot! Please make reservations:T. +49 89 76703974 or E. [email protected]

50 Weitblick/93/13

— 10:00 Bergmannstraße 26, Volker Atrops, Florian Buddeberg, Anna Eichlinger, Christiane Förster, Irene Gonzalez, Dorothea Schippel, Gisbert Stach, Norman Weber

8.3.–10.3. (Fri–Sun) 10:00–16:00

Twenty years ago the class of Otto Künzli at the Academy of Arts in Munich organized a huge jewellery event called - GOLD OR LIFE. All of the participants of the current Weitblick/93/13 show were a part of it at the time. They thought it would be a good idea to reunite and explore the similarities and differences in their work twenty years later. Each participant will present a piece from 1993 and 2013. Artists themselves are curious and do not know what the others might show! It will surely be a surprise and a lot of fun.

51 N°10 Preziosen

— 11:00 Schraudolphstraße 10 Caro Weiss, Christiane Köhne, Claudia Lassner

8.3.–10.3. Fri–Sat 11:00–20:00, Sun 11:00–18:00

The recently opened ceramics and jewellery showroom at Schraudolphstraße 10 presents the show by three graduates of the Design School of Pforzheim University. They will present their latest work, "finding analogies and mutual inspirations".

52 Plateaus Jewellery

— 13:00 Adalbertstraße 11Barbora Dzuráková, Patricia Corrreia Domingues, Katharina Dettar, Edu Tarin

8.3.-10.3. 11:00–19:00

Four previous students of Idar-Oberstein come together for this young and refreshing exhibition that rests on linkage, continuous growth and the individual. Patrícia Correia Domingues’ (Portugal) Reflections of Landscapes are lusciously simple, while Barbora Dzurakova’s (Slovakia) brightly colored brooches offer a strikingly playful balance. Together with Katharina Dettar (Germany) and Edu Tarín (Spain), the four artists make up the Plateus Group, what they call a continuous process, here to grow.

53 Strain’s Rhetoric

— 14:00–18:00Wörthstraße 23Gemma Draper at Diana Dudek

8.3.–9.3. 14:00–18:00

In this body of work Draper uses three types of materials and their manipulations to create final pieces: she applies heat and pressure to form the plastic, paints thin layers of cashew lacquer on wood, and uses braiding and weaving techniques on copper. These methods, despite the differences, seem to be always directed towards achieving a unique result through a long and repetitive process of creation and a certain set of rules.

54 Flora eats Fauna

— 16:30–20:00Schloss Nymphenburg, Johannissaal Im OrangerietraktNora Rochel, Dana Hakim, Susanne Wolbers, Leonore Jock, Jasmin Matzakow, Stephanie Hensle, Jimin Kim, Hannah Joris

8.3.–10.3. Sat–Sun 10:00–17:00

The fairy tale place of Schloss Nymphenburg is an ever-remaining settlement in the rich and aristocratic part of Munich. Behind it sits a great park with not only a crowd of people but also many plants and animals that wander about. ‘Flora eats Fauna’ is presented in the Orangerie in which nine female jewellery artists collected themselves around the statement: “we need each other.”

55 Otto Künzli FOR SALE

— 17:00–21:00 Galerie Wittenbrink, Türkenstraße 16 8.3.–14.3. (Tue-Sat) 10:00–18:00

The work of Otto Künzli is to be seen in a couple places during this year’s Schmuck week, and one of them is Galerie Witten-brink. We can only speculate about the intentions behind this show; one thought might be that the opening of this one is intentionally in contrast to the other at the Pinakothek der Moderne as an effort to counteract the grandeur of the retrospective and present an alive and available Künzli for sale! We hope so.

56 My Kingdom

— 18:00 Kunstgießerei with 84GHzSchleißheimerstraße 72Tanel Veenre

8.3.–10.3. Sat 12:00–19:00, Sun 10:00–16:00

The show by Tanel Veenre, ‘My Kingdom,’ is a lyrical succession to his previous work that has always impressed with its attractiveness and sheer aesthetic. We hear the touching beats from the ‘United Hearts’ series while we gleam into the flora and fauna of his private paradise. He tells us that these

‘Trophies’ were found in hunting expeditions into his soul. However personal it may seem, Tanel Veenre is very much able to direct his audience into discovering meaning on a more universal level. By using invaluable material we see his ability to transform anything he comes across into something we will want to remember.

57 Life is juicy, How fragile is your day

— 18:00 Galerie Spektrum, Theresienstraße 46Mia Maljojoki. Im Fenster, Ohrschmuck, Helen Britton

8.3.–27.4. Sun–Mon 13:00–18:00, Tue–Fri 13:00 –19:00

Why should you care about how people value your work? Whatever you may put into it, can always be miles away from what may be perceived. Jewellery is a lengthy process that knows no end, but Mia Maljojoki isn’t tied up with that. Her work is ephemeral, lucid, performative and aims to reveal the physical marks on the skin and the body. It shows more about who we are than what we wear.

58 Retrospektive Otto Künzli

— 19:00 Die Neue Sammlung –The International Design Museum Munich, Barerstraße 40, Pinakothek der Moderne

9.3.–7.4. Thu–Sun 10:00–18:00, Thu 10:00–20:00

Otto Künzli is an exception to the rule. His reputation goes beyond that of a jeweller and has been known to be recognized as an artist outside the realm of contemporary jewellery. His retrospective at the Pinakothek der Moderne, more or less his first retrospective, may just signify this, which in turn signifies his very status as an exception, as the man who does it all right, an artist able to transcend medium and material. The exhibition will premier in the Schaustelle of the Musuem and will include 150-200 objects and groups of objects from Künzli’s varies periods, as well as interdisciplinary conceptual works realized through photography and installation, which is what we’re the most excited about.

— 19:00Saplings - 360°Vision

Die Neue Sammlung - The International Design Museum Munich, Barerstraße 40, Pinakothek der ModerneRoyal College London

9.3.–7.4. Thu–Sun 10:00–18:00, Thu 10:00–20:00

This exhibition features images of 41 pieces of jewellery and metalwork selected from the GSM&J Collection at the Royal College of Art in London. The concept of the show is to make the trees in the park surrounding the Die Neue Sammlung the site of the exhibition. Each tree trunk presents one person’s work and all the trees together form a great chain like a necklace surrounding the ‘body’ of museum buildings. Fixed to the tree trunks are a 360° array of images and texts that tell the story of the pieces from the GSM&J Collection. Each collection item is photo-graphed from a number of angles; it is as though we are looking at the real pieces, exploring them from every angle. (text from the press release)

59 Schluck No.9

— 22:00 Schmuckklasse München,Maximilians ForumSchmuckfest Maximilianstraße/Unterführung

This year the annual “Schmuck Party” will be located in a huge underground space at the Maximilians Forum. The party also marks the opening of the retrospective exhibition of Prof. Otto Künzli at the Pinakothek der Moderne and is organized by his students from the Munich Art Academy. Very exciting! Should be a great place to meet people and dance the night away!

SATURDAY 9TH MARCH

60 Returning to the jewel is a return

from exile Nr.6

11:00–18:00 Galerie Biro, Residenzstraße 1Robert Baines, Karl Fritsch, Gerd Rothmann 9.3.–10.3. Sat–Sun 11:00–18:00"Jewellery is like food. If you eat it you will only want more." – Robert Baines. Curated by Olga Zobel, Galerie Biró presents the sixth rendition of this Schmuck gem featuring yet again, three contemporary jewellery greats: Robert Baines, Gerd Rothmann and Karl Fritsch. Last year, pieces were freely and deliciously scattered about a huge table circling the exhibition space, like a luxurious feast filled with mouth watering treats ready to be gobbled up.

61 Goldschmiedetreffen

— 19:00 Augustinerkeller, Arnulfstraße 52

If this particular beer hall were to freakishly burn down on the evening of this particular dinner, so would be the end of the world of contemporary jewellery: just about everybody who is anybody will be there chewing down on sausage and washing it down with Weißbier. If you’re lucky, you might just end up sitting next to your hero and bonding over how good the pretzels taste after a long, hard day of looking at jewellery. So choose your seat wisely! And look out behind you; you could even catch a glimpse of someone like, I don’t know…. Peter Skubic, slinging his small little sculptural masterpieces out of a tupperware right at the table, or something equally amazing (yes, last year that actually happened).

SUNDAY 10TH MARCH
