DESCRIPTION

In response of a homework relevant to Käthe Kollwitz's Die Witte I, Morkos chose the Expand-The_Frame technique to show his understanding of the artists inspiration. Markos mixed the Kollwitz's 1923 Die Witwe I at MoMa with a photo at Bridgeman Images of the 1917 food riots in Berlin. He left unchanged the title given to the original photo. The widow can be seen beside the three figures at the doorway of a shop in 1917's shop. None in the photo is looking at her, and she has no connection to any of the figures in the photo -- they are worlds apart. Note that 15years old Markos had never seen Oto Dix's Praguerstrasse -- nevertheless he very much recreated Dix's atmosphere.
