Effects of Co-catalyst on Water-splitting Photocatalyst: A DFT Analysis
○Kaharu Mizuno1, Masatoshi Tsuda1, Kochi Yamashita1 1 Department of Chemical System Engineering, The University of Tokyo, Japan
【Abstract】 Loading co-catalysts on water splitting photocatalysts is one of the promising way to boost
the efficiency of photocatalysts. Co-catalysts such as noble metal nanoparticles are believed to separate photogenerated electrons and holes. Nevertheless, the details of reactive sites and reaction mechanism are still not clear because of the difficulty in detecting water splitting reaction. Here, in our research, we aimed to elucidate the relations between geometrical and electronic features of co-catalysts and to clarify the absorption structure of water on the photocatalyst surface by means of first-principles calculations. We especially focused on Pt/SrTiO3, a combination of well-known co-catalyst and photocatalyst on which many experiments have been conducted, and found that, compared to single Pt atom, Pt clusters should be more active for H2O reduction. They gather electrons to the top, make it easier for H2O molecules to approach and react.

Fig. 1. Schematic illustration
Pt 単原子を担持させた構造モデルとしては、on Sr (Fig. 2a)、on Ti(Fig. 2b)、on O(Fig. 2c)の三種類 を作成した。
