Founded 125 years ago, the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB in Samedan is the oldest golf club in Switzer-land and the sixth oldest golf club on the European continent.
Everything started in summer 1889, when hotel pioneer Conradin von Flugi travelled to England to assess the options for building a golf course in the Engadine. The result was a nine-hole course situated between today’s railway station and St. Moritz Bad. This course was first mentioned in the “Engadine Year Book” of 1890 which rated it as “very sporty”. Thus it was the people of St. Moritz and their guests who first provided golf with a home on the old continent.
Golf was soon taking the Engadine by storm, so it was no surprise that the Municipality of Samedan granted Hotel Bernina permission to build an 18-hole golf course on the Champagna plain. The director of the Bernina, Angelo Fanconi, assumed the role of Honorary Secretary of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB when it was founded in Samedan in 1893.
The first tournament was held on 1–2 August 1893. According to extensive coverage in the “Alpine Post”, the Mixed Foursome (“Members Only”) was the most important tournament. That same summer, the “Engadine Amateur Championship” also took place for the first time; today they are still held each summer. Back then it was an Open Scratch competi-tion: the men completed 10 holes and all of two participants competed in the gross tournament. The Bernina Prize Handicap also took place on the same day, with no less than 14 men and 11 women.
1949 saw the founding of Samedan Golf Club, which was accepted into the ASG in the 1970s. From then on, two clubs were entitled to play on the course in Samedan.
With the construction of the second 18-hole course in Zuoz-Madulain, the golfing capacity was expanded to 36 holes. And the Engadine gained its third golf club: Zuoz Golf Club.
At the end of 2007, Samedan Golf Club and Zuoz Golf Club were incorporated into the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB. This merger resulted in the formation of one of the biggest golf clubs in Switzerland with some 1300 members.
Members of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB are entitled to play on both the Samedan and Zuoz- Madulain golf courses, both of which are operated by Golf Engadin St. Moritz AG.
ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITIES
The 125th anniversary was launched back in 2015 with a new sustainability project: 125 larches for our golf courses. The larches on the golf courses, particularly in Samedan, are already several centuries old and give the course its unique character. The planting of 125 larches for the Anniversary seeks to ensure that future generations will still be able to play golf on this unique course with its unmistakable larches.
Numerous activities are scheduled for the anniver-sary year. The sporting highlight is the Anniversary Tournament on 1 August 2018, which will be played in mixed Foursome on the Samedan Golf Course and rounded off with the Anniversary Dinner. The poster exhibition at the Design Gallery St. Moritz and the “Walk of History” in Samedan commemorate the 125-year history of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB with many exciting pictures.

Con i suoi 125 anni di storia, l’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB di Samedan è il più antico golf club della Svizzera e il sesto più longevo del continente europeo.
Tutto ebbe inizio nell’estate del 1889, quando il pio-niere dell’hotelleria Conradin von Flugi si recò in Inghilterra per studiare la fattibilità di un campo da golf in Engadina. Il risultato fu un campo a 9 buche tra l’attuale stazione ferroviaria e St. Moritz Bad. Questo campo fu menzionato per la prima volta nell’«Engadine year book» del 1890 con il giudizio «very sporty». Furono dunque gli abitanti di St. Moritz e i loro ospiti a creare le basi per lo sviluppo del golf nel vecchio continente.
Il golf fece furore in Engadina e dunque non sor- prende che il comune di Samedan autorizzò l’«Hotel Bernina» a costruire un campo a 18 buche in Champagna. Il direttore del «Bernina», Angelo Fanconi, assunse quindi la carica di «honorary secre-tary» durante la realizzazione dell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB di Samedan nel 1893.
Il 1° e il 2 agosto 1893 si svolse il primo torneo. Se-condo il dettagliato resoconto pubblicato sull’«Alpine Post», il Mixed Foursome («Members Only») fu la competizione di maggior rilievo. La stessa estate si disputarono per la prima volta anche gli «Engadine Amateur Championship», un evento che si tiene tuttora ogni estate. All’epoca si chiamava «Open Scratch Competition»: gli uomini dovevano comple-tare 10 buche e soltanto due partecipanti competevano per la classifica lorda. Nella medesima giornata si svolse anche «The Bernina Prize Handicap», stavolta con la partecipazione di 14 uomini e 11 donne.
Nel 1949 nacque il Samedan Golf Club, che negli anni Settanta fu accettato dall’ASG. Da allora furono due club a detenere il diritto di gioco su quel campo.
Con la costruzione del secondo impianto a 18 buche a Zuoz-Madulain, l’offerta complessiva raggiunse le 36 buche. A seguire fu realizzato il terzo golf club engadinese, lo Zuoz Golf Club.
A fine 2007 il Samedan Golf Club e lo Zuoz Golf Club furono integrati nell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB. Da questa fusione è nato uno dei più grandi golf club della Svizzera, comprendente circa 1300 soci.
I soci dell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB hanno il diritto di gioco sul campo di Samedan e su quello di Zuoz-Madulain; entrambe le strutture sono gestite dalla società Golf Engadin St. Moritz AG.
ATTIVITÀ DELL’ANNIVERSARIO
Le iniziative per il 125° anniversario sono già partite nel 2015 con il lancio del progetto di sostenibilità 125 larici per i nostri campi da golf. I larici pre- senti nei campi da golf, soprattutto a Samedan, hanno già un centinaio d’anni e ne contraddistinguono l’am-biente. Piantando 125 larici in occasione dell’anni-versario, si punta ad assicurare anche alle prossime generazioni la possibilità di giocare a golf in questi campi straordinari circondati dagli inconfondibili larici.
Per il 125ennale sono previste numerose attività. L’evento sportivo più atteso è il torneo dell’anniver-sario in programma il 1° agosto 2018, che si dispu-terà con la formula Mixed Foursome sul campo da golf di Samedan e si concluderà con la cena del 125ennale. L’esposizione di poster presso la St. Moritz Design Gallery e la «Walk of History» di Samedan ripercorrono con una serie di immagini eccezionali i 125 anni di vita dell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB.

125 JAHRE ENGADINE GOLF CLUBDas St. Andrews der Alpen
Seit 125 Jahren besteht der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB in Samedan und ist damit der älteste Golfclub in der Schweiz und auf dem europäischen Kontinent der sechstälteste Golfclub.
Alles begann im Sommer 1889 mit einer Reise des Hotelpioniers Conradin von Flugi nach England, um Möglichkeiten für den Bau eines Golfplatzes im Engadin zu prüfen. Das Resultat war ein 9-Loch-Platz zwischen dem heutigen Bahnhof und St. Moritz Bad. Im «Engadine year book» von 1890 wurde dieser Platz erstmals erwähnt und erhielt das Prädikat «very sporty». So waren es St. Moritzer und deren Gäste, die es verstanden, dem Golfspiel die erste Existenz-grundlage auf dem alten Kontinent zu verschaffen.
Da der Golfsport das Engadin im Sturm eroberte, war es nicht erstaunlich, dass die Gemeinde Samedan dem «Hotel Bernina» die Bewilligung erteilte, in der Champagna einen 18-Loch-Golfplatz zu bauen. Der Direktor des «Bernina», Angelo Fanconi, amtete dann bei der Gründung des ENGADINE GOLF CLUB in Samedan im Jahr 1893 als «honorary secretary».
Am 1. und 2. August 1893 fand das erste Turnier statt. Laut der umfangreichen Berichterstattung in der «Alpine Post» war das Mixed Foursome («Members Only») das wichtigste Turnier. Noch im selben Sommer wurden auch erstmals die «Engadine Amateur Championship» ausgetragen, die auch heu-te noch jeden Sommer stattfi nden. Damals hiess es «Open Scratch Competition», die Männer absolvier-ten 10 Löcher und gerade mal zwei Teilnehmer spielten in der Brutto-Wertung. Am gleichen Tag fand damals auch «The Bernina Prize Handicap» statt, dies mit immerhin 14 Männern und 11 Frauen.
1949 entstand der Samedan Golf Club, der in den Siebzigerjahren in die ASG aufgenommen wurde. Fortan besassen zwei Clubs das Spielrecht auf dem Platz in Samedan.

Mit dem Bau der zweiten 18-Loch-Anlage in Zuoz-Madulain konnte das Angebot auf 36 Löcher ausgebaut werden. Und der dritte Golfclub im Engadin kam dazu: Zuoz Golf Club.
Ende 2007 wurden der Samedan Golf Club und der Zuoz Golf Club in den ENGADINE GOLF CLUB integriert. Mit diesem Zusammenschluss entstand einer der grössten Golfclubs in der Schweiz mit rund 1300 Mitgliedern.
Die ENGADINE GOLF CLUB Mitglieder haben das Spielrecht auf dem Golfplatz Samedan sowie auf dem Golfplatz Zuoz-Madulain; beide Golfplätze werden von der Golf Engadin St. Moritz AG betrieben.
JUBILÄUMS-AKTIVITÄTEN
Das 125-Jahre-Jubiläum wurde bereits 2015 mit ei-nem Nachhaltigkeitsprojekt lanciert: 125 Lärchen für unsere Golfplätze. Die Lärchen auf den Golf-plätzen, im speziellen in Samedan, sind bereits einige 100 Jahre alt und prägen den Charakter des Platzes. Mit der Pfl anzung von 125 Lärchen zum Jubiläum soll nachhaltig sichergestellt werden, dass auch die nächsten Generationen auf diesem einzigartigen Platz mit seinen unverkennbaren Lärchen Golf spielen können.
Im Jubiläumsjahr fi nden zahlreiche Aktivitäten statt. Das sportliche Highlight ist das Jubiläumsturnier am 1. August 2018, welches als Mixed Foursome auf dem Golfplatz Samedan gespielt wird und mit dem Jubiläumsdinner abgerundet wird. Die Plakataus-stellung in der Design Gallery St. Moritz und der «Walk of History» in Samedan erinnern mit vielen spannenden Bildern an die 125jährige Geschichte des ENGADINE GOLF CLUB.

125 Lärchen für die Golfplätze

Der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB ist nicht nur der älteste Golf-club in der Schweiz und feiert 2018 sein 125 Jahre Jubiläum. Er ist auch der Club mit einem der ältesten Golfplätze der Schweiz und einem noch älteren Lärchen-Baumbestand. Die Bäume prägen insbesondere den 18-Loch-Championship- Platz in Samedan. Die besonderen Blick- und Schwungachsen rund um die Lärchen haben schon manchen Golfer und man-che Golferin zu einem ungewollten „Chip“ oder „Rollball“ gezwungen. Je nach Lage des Golfballs ist es nicht möglich, das Green oder auch nur das Fairway mit einem sauberen Schwung anzuspielen.
Die Lärchen gehören zum Golfplatz in Samedan wie der Malojawind, der pünktlich gegen Mittag die Bälle in alle Richtungen ablenkt. Mit dem 2016 lancierten Lärchen- Projekt sollte bis 2018 für jedes Club-Jahr eine Lärche gepflanzt werden, um den Baumbestand und die Einzigartig-keit auf beiden Golfplätzen sicherzustellen: 125 an der Zahl.
Den Mitgliedern und Gästen wurde angeboten, eine Lärche zu kaufen, um diese in ihrem Namen zu pflanzen. Die Resonanz auf dieses Projekt war überwältigend. Innerhalb einer Golfsaison waren alle 125 Bäume verkauft und konnten gepflanzt werden.
Die ersten Lärchen wurden mit Hilfe der Junioren gepflanzt. Sie halfen tatkräftig mit, die Bäume auf dem Golfplatz in Zuoz-Madulain zu setzen.
Die Pflanzung der 125. Lärche fand im Frühling 2017 statt. Der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB Clubmeister 2016, Andy Ruch, liess es sich nicht nehmen, persönlich dabei zu sein und „seine“ Lärche auf dem Golfplatz Samedan zu pflanzen.
Über ein Jahr vor dem 125 Jahre Jubiläum haben alle Lärchen ihren Platz gefunden und erfreuen – je nach Lage des ge- spielten Golfballs, auch etwas weniger – die Golferinnen und Golfer auf unseren beiden Championship-Golfplätzen. Der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB bedankt sich bei allen Lärchen- Paten für die grosszügige Unterstützung.

Die Lärchen-Paten können sich aber nicht nur darüber freuen, dass der Baumbestand auf dem Golfplatz Samedan und dem Golfplatz Zuoz-Madulain für die nächsten Jahre sichergestellt ist und die Lärchen auch in Zukunft die Engadiner Golfplätze prägen. Als besondere Erinnerung an das 125 Jahre Jubiläum des ENGADINE GOLF CLUBS erhalten sie zusätzlich ein gerahm-tes Bild des bekannten St. Moritzer Künstlers und ENGADINE GOLF CLUB-Mitglied Rolf Sachs. Das Bild „Zwei Lärchen am Loch 4“ auf dem Golfplatz in Samedan wurde exklusiv für das Lärchen-Projekt fotografiert und soll noch lange an das Jubiläumsjahr erinnern.

At the end of 2007, Samedan Golf Club and Zuoz Golf Club were incorporated into the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB. This merger resulted in the formation of one of the biggest golf clubs in Switzerland with some 1300 members.
Members of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB are entitled to play on both the Samedan and Zuoz- Madulain golf courses, both of which are operated by Golf Engadin St. Moritz AG.
ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITIES
The 125th anniversary was launched back in 2015 with a new sustainability project: 125 larches for our golf courses. The larches on the golf courses, particularly in Samedan, are already several centuries old and give the course its unique character. The planting of 125 larches for the Anniversary seeks to ensure that future generations will still be able to play golf on this unique course with its unmistakable larches.
Numerous activities are scheduled for the anniver-sary year. The sporting highlight is the Anniversary Tournament on 1 August 2018, which will be played in mixed Foursome on the Samedan Golf Course and rounded off with the Anniversary Dinner. The poster exhibition at the Design Gallery St. Moritz and the “Walk of History” in Samedan commemorate the 125-year history of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB with many exciting pictures.

Con i suoi 125 anni di storia, l’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB di Samedan è il più antico golf club della Svizzera e il sesto più longevo del continente europeo.
Tutto ebbe inizio nell’estate del 1889, quando il pio-niere dell’hotelleria Conradin von Flugi si recò in Inghilterra per studiare la fattibilità di un campo da golf in Engadina. Il risultato fu un campo a 9 buche tra l’attuale stazione ferroviaria e St. Moritz Bad. Questo campo fu menzionato per la prima volta nell’«Engadine year book» del 1890 con il giudizio «very sporty». Furono dunque gli abitanti di St. Moritz e i loro ospiti a creare le basi per lo sviluppo del golf nel vecchio continente.
Il golf fece furore in Engadina e dunque non sor- prende che il comune di Samedan autorizzò l’«Hotel Bernina» a costruire un campo a 18 buche in Champagna. Il direttore del «Bernina», Angelo Fanconi, assunse quindi la carica di «honorary secre-tary» durante la realizzazione dell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB di Samedan nel 1893.
Il 1° e il 2 agosto 1893 si svolse il primo torneo. Se-condo il dettagliato resoconto pubblicato sull’«Alpine Post», il Mixed Foursome («Members Only») fu la competizione di maggior rilievo. La stessa estate si disputarono per la prima volta anche gli «Engadine Amateur Championship», un evento che si tiene tuttora ogni estate. All’epoca si chiamava «Open Scratch Competition»: gli uomini dovevano comple-tare 10 buche e soltanto due partecipanti competevano per la classifica lorda. Nella medesima giornata si svolse anche «The Bernina Prize Handicap», stavolta con la partecipazione di 14 uomini e 11 donne.
Nel 1949 nacque il Samedan Golf Club, che negli anni Settanta fu accettato dall’ASG. Da allora furono due club a detenere il diritto di gioco su quel campo.
Con la costruzione del secondo impianto a 18 buche a Zuoz-Madulain, l’offerta complessiva raggiunse le 36 buche. A seguire fu realizzato il terzo golf club engadinese, lo Zuoz Golf Club.

ATTIVITÀ DELL’ANNIVERSARIO
Le iniziative per il 125° anniversario sono già partite nel 2015 con il lancio del progetto di sostenibilità 125 larici per i nostri campi da golf. I larici pre- senti nei campi da golf, soprattutto a Samedan, hanno già un centinaio d’anni e ne contraddistinguono l’am-biente. Piantando 125 larici in occasione dell’anni-versario, si punta ad assicurare anche alle prossime generazioni la possibilità di giocare a golf in questi campi straordinari circondati dagli inconfondibili larici.
Per il 125ennale sono previste numerose attività. L’evento sportivo più atteso è il torneo dell’anniver-sario in programma il 1° agosto 2018, che si dispu-terà con la formula Mixed Foursome sul campo da golf di Samedan e si concluderà con la cena del 125ennale. L’esposizione di poster presso la St. Moritz Design Gallery e la «Walk of History» di Samedan ripercorrono con una serie di immagini eccezionali i 125 anni di vita dell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB.

Founded 125 years ago, the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB in Samedan is the oldest golf club in Switzer-land and the sixth oldest golf club on the European continent.
Everything started in summer 1889, when hotel pioneer Conradin von Flugi travelled to England to assess the options for building a golf course in the Engadine. The result was a nine-hole course situated between today’s railway station and St. Moritz Bad. This course was first mentioned in the “Engadine Year Book” of 1890 which rated it as “very sporty”. Thus it was the people of St. Moritz and their guests who first provided golf with a home on the old continent.
Golf was soon taking the Engadine by storm, so it was no surprise that the Municipality of Samedan granted Hotel Bernina permission to build an 18-hole golf course on the Champagna plain. The director of the Bernina, Angelo Fanconi, assumed the role of Honorary Secretary of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB when it was founded in Samedan in 1893.
The first tournament was held on 1–2 August 1893. According to extensive coverage in the “Alpine Post”, the Mixed Foursome (“Members Only”) was the most important tournament. That same summer, the “Engadine Amateur Championship” also took place for the first time; today they are still held each summer. Back then it was an Open Scratch competi-tion: the men completed 10 holes and all of two participants competed in the gross tournament. The Bernina Prize Handicap also took place on the same day, with no less than 14 men and 11 women.
1949 saw the founding of Samedan Golf Club, which was accepted into the ASG in the 1970s. From then on, two clubs were entitled to play on the course in Samedan.
With the construction of the second 18-hole course in Zuoz-Madulain, the golfing capacity was expanded to 36 holes. And the Engadine gained its third golf club: Zuoz Golf Club.

Seit 125 Jahren besteht der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB in Samedan und ist damit der älteste Golfclub in der Schweiz und auf dem europäischen Kontinent der sechstälteste Golfclub.
Alles begann im Sommer 1889 mit einer Reise des Hotelpioniers Conradin von Flugi nach England, um Möglichkeiten für den Bau eines Golfplatzes im Engadin zu prüfen. Das Resultat war ein 9-Loch-Platz zwischen dem heutigen Bahnhof und St. Moritz Bad. Im «Engadine year book» von 1890 wurde dieser Platz erstmals erwähnt und erhielt das Prädikat «very sporty». So waren es St. Moritzer und deren Gäste, die es verstanden, dem Golfspiel die erste Existenz-grundlage auf dem alten Kontinent zu verschaffen.
Da der Golfsport das Engadin im Sturm eroberte, war es nicht erstaunlich, dass die Gemeinde Samedan dem «Hotel Bernina» die Bewilligung erteilte, in der Champagna einen 18-Loch-Golfplatz zu bauen. Der Direktor des «Bernina», Angelo Fanconi, amtete dann bei der Gründung des ENGADINE GOLF CLUB in Samedan im Jahr 1893 als «honorary secretary».
Am 1. und 2. August 1893 fand das erste Turnier statt. Laut der umfangreichen Berichterstattung in der «Alpine Post» war das Mixed Foursome («Members Only») das wichtigste Turnier. Noch im selben Sommer wurden auch erstmals die «Engadine Amateur Championship» ausgetragen, die auch heu-te noch jeden Sommer stattfi nden. Damals hiess es «Open Scratch Competition», die Männer absolvier-ten 10 Löcher und gerade mal zwei Teilnehmer spielten in der Brutto-Wertung. Am gleichen Tag fand damals auch «The Bernina Prize Handicap» statt, dies mit immerhin 14 Männern und 11 Frauen.
1949 entstand der Samedan Golf Club, der in den Siebzigerjahren in die ASG aufgenommen wurde. Fortan besassen zwei Clubs das Spielrecht auf dem Platz in Samedan.

Mit dem Bau der zweiten 18-Loch-Anlage in Zuoz-Madulain konnte das Angebot auf 36 Löcher ausgebaut werden. Und der dritte Golfclub im Engadin kam dazu: Zuoz Golf Club.
Ende 2007 wurden der Samedan Golf Club und der Zuoz Golf Club in den ENGADINE GOLF CLUB integriert. Mit diesem Zusammenschluss entstand einer der grössten Golfclubs in der Schweiz mit rund 1300 Mitgliedern.
Die ENGADINE GOLF CLUB Mitglieder haben das Spielrecht auf dem Golfplatz Samedan sowie auf dem Golfplatz Zuoz-Madulain; beide Golfplätze werden von der Golf Engadin St. Moritz AG betrieben.
JUBILÄUMS-AKTIVITÄTEN
Das 125-Jahre-Jubiläum wurde bereits 2015 mit ei-nem Nachhaltigkeitsprojekt lanciert: 125 Lärchen für unsere Golfplätze. Die Lärchen auf den Golf-plätzen, im speziellen in Samedan, sind bereits einige 100 Jahre alt und prägen den Charakter des Platzes. Mit der Pfl anzung von 125 Lärchen zum Jubiläum soll nachhaltig sichergestellt werden, dass auch die nächsten Generationen auf diesem einzigartigen Platz mit seinen unverkennbaren Lärchen Golf spielen können.
Im Jubiläumsjahr fi nden zahlreiche Aktivitäten statt. Das sportliche Highlight ist das Jubiläumsturnier am 1. August 2018, welches als Mixed Foursome auf dem Golfplatz Samedan gespielt wird und mit dem Jubiläumsdinner abgerundet wird. Die Plakataus-stellung in der Design Gallery St. Moritz und der «Walk of History» in Samedan erinnern mit vielen spannenden Bildern an die 125jährige Geschichte des ENGADINE GOLF CLUB.

125 Lärchen für die Golfplätze

Der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB ist nicht nur der älteste Golf-club in der Schweiz und feiert 2018 sein 125 Jahre Jubiläum. Er ist auch der Club mit einem der ältesten Golfplätze der Schweiz und einem noch älteren Lärchen-Baumbestand. Die Bäume prägen insbesondere den 18-Loch-Championship- Platz in Samedan. Die besonderen Blick- und Schwungachsen rund um die Lärchen haben schon manchen Golfer und man-che Golferin zu einem ungewollten „Chip“ oder „Rollball“ gezwungen. Je nach Lage des Golfballs ist es nicht möglich, das Green oder auch nur das Fairway mit einem sauberen Schwung anzuspielen.
Die Lärchen gehören zum Golfplatz in Samedan wie der Malojawind, der pünktlich gegen Mittag die Bälle in alle Richtungen ablenkt. Mit dem 2016 lancierten Lärchen- Projekt sollte bis 2018 für jedes Club-Jahr eine Lärche gepflanzt werden, um den Baumbestand und die Einzigartig-keit auf beiden Golfplätzen sicherzustellen: 125 an der Zahl.
Den Mitgliedern und Gästen wurde angeboten, eine Lärche zu kaufen, um diese in ihrem Namen zu pflanzen. Die Resonanz auf dieses Projekt war überwältigend. Innerhalb einer Golfsaison waren alle 125 Bäume verkauft und konnten gepflanzt werden.
Die ersten Lärchen wurden mit Hilfe der Junioren gepflanzt. Sie halfen tatkräftig mit, die Bäume auf dem Golfplatz in Zuoz-Madulain zu setzen.
Die Pflanzung der 125. Lärche fand im Frühling 2017 statt. Der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB Clubmeister 2016, Andy Ruch, liess es sich nicht nehmen, persönlich dabei zu sein und „seine“ Lärche auf dem Golfplatz Samedan zu pflanzen.
Über ein Jahr vor dem 125 Jahre Jubiläum haben alle Lärchen ihren Platz gefunden und erfreuen – je nach Lage des ge- spielten Golfballs, auch etwas weniger – die Golferinnen und Golfer auf unseren beiden Championship-Golfplätzen. Der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB bedankt sich bei allen Lärchen- Paten für die grosszügige Unterstützung.

Als besondere Erinnerung an das 125 Jahre Jubiläum des ENGADINE GOLF CLUBS erhalten sie zusätzlich ein gerahm-tes Bild des bekannten St. Moritzer Künstlers und ENGADINE GOLF CLUB-Mitglied Rolf Sachs. 125 JAHRE ENGADINE GOLF CLUBDas St. Andrews der Alpen
Seit 125 Jahren besteht der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB in Samedan und ist damit der älteste Golfclub in der Schweiz und auf dem europäischen Kontinent der sechstälteste Golfclub.
Alles begann im Sommer 1889 mit einer Reise des Hotelpioniers Conradin von Flugi nach England, um Möglichkeiten für den Bau eines Golfplatzes im Engadin zu prüfen. Das Resultat war ein 9-Loch-Platz zwischen dem heutigen Bahnhof und St. Moritz Bad. Im «Engadine year book» von 1890 wurde dieser Platz erstmals erwähnt und erhielt das Prädikat «very sporty». So waren es St. Moritzer und deren Gäste, die es verstanden, dem Golfspiel die erste Existenz-grundlage auf dem alten Kontinent zu verschaffen.
Da der Golfsport das Engadin im Sturm eroberte, war es nicht erstaunlich, dass die Gemeinde Samedan dem «Hotel Bernina» die Bewilligung erteilte, in der Champagna einen 18-Loch-Golfplatz zu bauen. Der Direktor des «Bernina», Angelo Fanconi, amtete dann bei der Gründung des ENGADINE GOLF CLUB in Samedan im Jahr 1893 als «honorary secretary».
Am 1. und 2. August 1893 fand das erste Turnier statt. Laut der umfangreichen Berichterstattung in der «Alpine Post» war das Mixed Foursome («Members Only») das wichtigste Turnier. Noch im selben Sommer wurden auch erstmals die «Engadine Amateur Championship» ausgetragen, die auch heu-te noch jeden Sommer stattfi nden. Damals hiess es «Open Scratch Competition», die Männer absolvier-ten 10 Löcher und gerade mal zwei Teilnehmer spielten in der Brutto-Wertung. Am gleichen Tag fand damals auch «The Bernina Prize Handicap» statt, dies mit immerhin 14 Männern und 11 Frauen.
1949 entstand der Samedan Golf Club, der in den Siebzigerjahren in die ASG aufgenommen wurde. Fortan besassen zwei Clubs das Spielrecht auf dem Platz in Samedan.

Mit dem Bau der zweiten 18-Loch-Anlage in Zuoz-Madulain konnte das Angebot auf 36 Löcher ausgebaut werden. Und der dritte Golfclub im Engadin kam dazu: Zuoz Golf Club.
Ende 2007 wurden der Samedan Golf Club und der Zuoz Golf Club in den ENGADINE GOLF CLUB integriert. Mit diesem Zusammenschluss entstand einer der grössten Golfclubs in der Schweiz mit rund 1300 Mitgliedern.
Die ENGADINE GOLF CLUB Mitglieder haben das Spielrecht auf dem Golfplatz Samedan sowie auf dem Golfplatz Zuoz-Madulain; beide Golfplätze werden von der Golf Engadin St. Moritz AG betrieben.
JUBILÄUMS-AKTIVITÄTEN
Das 125-Jahre-Jubiläum wurde bereits 2015 mit ei-nem Nachhaltigkeitsprojekt lanciert: 125 Lärchen für unsere Golfplätze. Die Lärchen auf den Golf-plätzen, im speziellen in Samedan, sind bereits einige 100 Jahre alt und prägen den Charakter des Platzes. Mit der Pfl anzung von 125 Lärchen zum Jubiläum soll nachhaltig sichergestellt werden, dass auch die nächsten Generationen auf diesem einzigartigen Platz mit seinen unverkennbaren Lärchen Golf spielen können.
Im Jubiläumsjahr fi nden zahlreiche Aktivitäten statt. Das sportliche Highlight ist das Jubiläumsturnier am 1. August 2018, welches als Mixed Foursome auf dem Golfplatz Samedan gespielt wird und mit dem Jubiläumsdinner abgerundet wird. Die Plakataus-stellung in der Design Gallery St. Moritz und der «Walk of History» in Samedan erinnern mit vielen spannenden Bildern an die 125jährige Geschichte des ENGADINE GOLF CLUB.

125 Lärchen für die Golfplätze

Der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB ist nicht nur der älteste Golf-club in der Schweiz und feiert 2018 sein 125 Jahre Jubiläum. Er ist auch der Club mit einem der ältesten Golfplätze der Schweiz und einem noch älteren Lärchen-Baumbestand. Die Bäume prägen insbesondere den 18-Loch-Championship- Platz in Samedan. Die besonderen Blick- und Schwungachsen rund um die Lärchen haben schon manchen Golfer und man-che Golferin zu einem ungewollten „Chip“ oder „Rollball“ gezwungen. Je nach Lage des Golfballs ist es nicht möglich, das Green oder auch nur das Fairway mit einem sauberen Schwung anzuspielen.
Die Lärchen gehören zum Golfplatz in Samedan wie der Malojawind, der pünktlich gegen Mittag die Bälle in alle Richtungen ablenkt. Mit dem 2016 lancierten Lärchen- Projekt sollte bis 2018 für jedes Club-Jahr eine Lärche gepflanzt werden, um den Baumbestand und die Einzigartig-keit auf beiden Golfplätzen sicherzustellen: 125 an der Zahl.
Den Mitgliedern und Gästen wurde angeboten, eine Lärche zu kaufen, um diese in ihrem Namen zu pflanzen. Die Resonanz auf dieses Projekt war überwältigend. Innerhalb einer Golfsaison waren alle 125 Bäume verkauft und konnten gepflanzt werden.
Die ersten Lärchen wurden mit Hilfe der Junioren gepflanzt. Sie halfen tatkräftig mit, die Bäume auf dem Golfplatz in Zuoz-Madulain zu setzen.
Die Pflanzung der 125. Lärche fand im Frühling 2017 statt. Der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB Clubmeister 2016, Andy Ruch, liess es sich nicht nehmen, persönlich dabei zu sein und „seine“ Lärche auf dem Golfplatz Samedan zu pflanzen.
Über ein Jahr vor dem 125 Jahre Jubiläum haben alle Lärchen ihren Platz gefunden und erfreuen – je nach Lage des ge- spielten Golfballs, auch etwas weniger – die Golferinnen und Golfer auf unseren beiden Championship-Golfplätzen. Der ENGADINE GOLF CLUB bedankt sich bei allen Lärchen- Paten für die grosszügige Unterstützung.

Die Lärchen-Paten können sich aber nicht nur darüber freuen, dass der Baumbestand auf dem Golfplatz Samedan und dem Golfplatz Zuoz-Madulain für die nächsten Jahre sichergestellt ist und die Lärchen auch in Zukunft die Engadiner Golfplätze prägen. Als besondere Erinnerung an das 125 Jahre Jubiläum des ENGADINE GOLF CLUBS erhalten sie zusätzlich ein gerahm-tes Bild des bekannten St. Moritzer Künstlers und ENGADINE GOLF CLUB-Mitglied Rolf Sachs. Das Bild „Zwei Lärchen am Loch 4“ auf dem Golfplatz in Samedan wurde exklusiv für das Lärchen-Projekt fotografiert und soll noch lange an das Jubiläumsjahr erinnern.

Die Lärchen-Paten können sich aber nicht nur darüber freuen, dass der Baumbestand auf dem Golfplatz Samedan und dem Golfplatz Zuoz-Madulain für die nächsten Jahre sichergestellt ist und die Lärchen auch in Zukunft die Engadiner Golfplätze prägen. Als besondere Erinnerung an das 125 Jahre Jubiläum des ENGADINE GOLF CLUBS erhalten sie zusätzlich ein gerahm-tes Bild des bekannten St. Moritzer Künstlers und ENGADINE GOLF CLUB-Mitglied Rolf Sachs. Das Bild „Zwei Lärchen am Loch 4“ auf dem Golfplatz in Samedan wurde exklusiv für das Lärchen-Projekt fotografiert und soll noch lange an das Jubiläumsjahr erinnern.

Das 125 Jahre Jubiläum des ENGADINE GOLF CLUB wurde 2016 mit einem Nachhaltig-keitsprojekt lanciert: 125 Lärchen sollten bis zum Jubiläum auf den beiden Golfplätzen in Samedan und Zuoz-Madulain gepflanzt werden.

125 YEARS of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUBThe St. Andrews of the Alps
Founded 125 years ago, the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB in Samedan is the oldest golf club in Switzer-land and the sixth oldest golf club on the European continent.
Everything started in summer 1889, when hotel pioneer Conradin von Flugi travelled to England to assess the options for building a golf course in the Engadine. The result was a nine-hole course situated between today’s railway station and St. Moritz Bad. This course was first mentioned in the “Engadine Year Book” of 1890 which rated it as “very sporty”. Thus it was the people of St. Moritz and their guests who first provided golf with a home on the old continent.
Golf was soon taking the Engadine by storm, so it was no surprise that the Municipality of Samedan granted Hotel Bernina permission to build an 18-hole golf course on the Champagna plain. The director of the Bernina, Angelo Fanconi, assumed the role of Honorary Secretary of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB when it was founded in Samedan in 1893.
The first tournament was held on 1–2 August 1893. According to extensive coverage in the “Alpine Post”, the Mixed Foursome (“Members Only”) was the most important tournament. That same summer, the “Engadine Amateur Championship” also took place for the first time; today they are still held each summer. Back then it was an Open Scratch competi-tion: the men completed 10 holes and all of two participants competed in the gross tournament. The Bernina Prize Handicap also took place on the same day, with no less than 14 men and 11 women.
1949 saw the founding of Samedan Golf Club, which was accepted into the ASG in the 1970s. From then on, two clubs were entitled to play on the course in Samedan.
With the construction of the second 18-hole course in Zuoz-Madulain, the golfing capacity was expanded to 36 holes. And the Engadine gained its third golf club: Zuoz Golf Club.
At the end of 2007, Samedan Golf Club and Zuoz Golf Club were incorporated into the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB. This merger resulted in the formation of one of the biggest golf clubs in Switzerland with some 1300 members.
Members of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB are entitled to play on both the Samedan and Zuoz- Madulain golf courses, both of which are operated by Golf Engadin St. Moritz AG.
ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITIES
The 125th anniversary was launched back in 2015 with a new sustainability project: 125 larches for our golf courses. The larches on the golf courses, particularly in Samedan, are already several centuries old and give the course its unique character. The planting of 125 larches for the Anniversary seeks to ensure that future generations will still be able to play golf on this unique course with its unmistakable larches.
Numerous activities are scheduled for the anniver-sary year. The sporting highlight is the Anniversary Tournament on 1 August 2018, which will be played in mixed Foursome on the Samedan Golf Course and rounded off with the Anniversary Dinner. The poster exhibition at the Design Gallery St. Moritz and the “Walk of History” in Samedan commemorate the 125-year history of the ENGADINE GOLF CLUB with many exciting pictures.

Con i suoi 125 anni di storia, l’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB di Samedan è il più antico golf club della Svizzera e il sesto più longevo del continente europeo.
Tutto ebbe inizio nell’estate del 1889, quando il pio-niere dell’hotelleria Conradin von Flugi si recò in Inghilterra per studiare la fattibilità di un campo da golf in Engadina. Il risultato fu un campo a 9 buche tra l’attuale stazione ferroviaria e St. Moritz Bad. Questo campo fu menzionato per la prima volta nell’«Engadine year book» del 1890 con il giudizio «very sporty». Furono dunque gli abitanti di St. Moritz e i loro ospiti a creare le basi per lo sviluppo del golf nel vecchio continente.
Il golf fece furore in Engadina e dunque non sor- prende che il comune di Samedan autorizzò l’«Hotel Bernina» a costruire un campo a 18 buche in Champagna. Il direttore del «Bernina», Angelo Fanconi, assunse quindi la carica di «honorary secre-tary» durante la realizzazione dell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB di Samedan nel 1893.
Il 1° e il 2 agosto 1893 si svolse il primo torneo. Se-condo il dettagliato resoconto pubblicato sull’«Alpine Post», il Mixed Foursome («Members Only») fu la competizione di maggior rilievo. La stessa estate si disputarono per la prima volta anche gli «Engadine Amateur Championship», un evento che si tiene tuttora ogni estate. All’epoca si chiamava «Open Scratch Competition»: gli uomini dovevano comple-tare 10 buche e soltanto due partecipanti competevano per la classifica lorda. Nella medesima giornata si svolse anche «The Bernina Prize Handicap», stavolta con la partecipazione di 14 uomini e 11 donne.
Nel 1949 nacque il Samedan Golf Club, che negli anni Settanta fu accettato dall’ASG. Da allora furono due club a detenere il diritto di gioco su quel campo.
Con la costruzione del secondo impianto a 18 buche a Zuoz-Madulain, l’offerta complessiva raggiunse le 36 buche. A seguire fu realizzato il terzo golf club engadinese, lo Zuoz Golf Club.
A fine 2007 il Samedan Golf Club e lo Zuoz Golf Club furono integrati nell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB. Da questa fusione è nato uno dei più grandi golf club della Svizzera, comprendente circa 1300 soci.
I soci dell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB hanno il diritto di gioco sul campo di Samedan e su quello di Zuoz-Madulain; entrambe le strutture sono gestite dalla società Golf Engadin St. Moritz AG.
ATTIVITÀ DELL’ANNIVERSARIO
Le iniziative per il 125° anniversario sono già partite nel 2015 con il lancio del progetto di sostenibilità 125 larici per i nostri campi da golf. I larici pre- senti nei campi da golf, soprattutto a Samedan, hanno già un centinaio d’anni e ne contraddistinguono l’am-biente. Piantando 125 larici in occasione dell’anni-versario, si punta ad assicurare anche alle prossime generazioni la possibilità di giocare a golf in questi campi straordinari circondati dagli inconfondibili larici.
Per il 125ennale sono previste numerose attività. L’evento sportivo più atteso è il torneo dell’anniver-sario in programma il 1° agosto 2018, che si dispu-terà con la formula Mixed Foursome sul campo da golf di Samedan e si concluderà con la cena del 125ennale. L’esposizione di poster presso la St. Moritz Design Gallery e la «Walk of History» di Samedan ripercorrono con una serie di immagini eccezionali i 125 anni di vita dell’ENGADINE GOLF CLUB.
