Informationen zum VorbildAls am 2. Juni 1991 die Neubaustrecke Stuttgart – Mann-heim in Betrieb ging, sollte auch der Airport Express Stuttg-art – Frankfurt-Flughafen diesen Weg nehmen. Doch wegen der höheren Geschwindigkeit und vor allem der Druck-problematik in den zahlreichen Tunnel der Neubaustrecke konnten die bisherigen Fahrzeuge nicht mehr weiterver-wendet werden. Einhergehend mit einer Fahrzeitverkürzung auf 90 Minuten erfolgte eine Ausweitung auf vier tägliche Zugpaare, die nur mit einer Lokomotive gefahren werden sollten. Wegen der kurzen Wendezeiten in Stuttgart wurden allerdings zwei Zuggarnituren benötigt. Nach Lufthansa-Vorgaben umgestaltete, druckdichte Wagen übernahmen nun mit der farblich an den Zug angepassten E-Lok 103 101 des Bw Frankfurt/Main den Airport Express.Die 103 wechselte in ein zum Wagenzug passendes Farbkleid in den Lufthansa-Farben. Im Gegensatz zum Wagenmaterial war jedoch die 103 101 nicht druckertüchtigt und daher konzipierte man die Fahrplantrassen so, dass keine Zugbegegnungen in den Tunnelabschnitten stattfinden konnten.Die kurzen Wendezeiten in Stuttgart führten dann zu einem „fliegenden Wechsel“ zwischen beiden, in der Regel dreiteiligen Wagengarnituren. Leider stellte die Lufthansa am 23. Mai 1993 sämtlichen Service auf „Flughöhe Null“ ein und somit ist am Tag zuvor auch die 103 101 zum letzten Mal unterwegs gewesen.

Information about the PrototypeWhen the newly constructed line from Stuttgart to Mann-heim went into operation on July 2, 1991, it was planned that the Airport Express Stuttgart – Frankfurt Airport would take this route. However, due to the higher speed and above all the pressure problems in the numerous tunnels on this new line, the existing cars and locomotives could not be used here. Along with a decrease in the running time to 90 minutes came an expansion to four daily pairs of trains that were to be run with only one locomotive. Admittedly, two train sets were required due to the short turnaround times in Stuttgart. Airtight cars repainted to Lufthansa specifi-cations were assigned to the Airport Express with electric locomotive 103 101, also painted to match the train, from the Frankfurt/Main District used as motive power.The class 103 changed to the Lufthansa colors to match the cars in the train. Compared to the rolling stock road number 103 101 was not airtight and the schedules were there-fore designed so that trains could not meet in the tunnel sections. The short turnaround times in Stuttgart then led to a “flying change” between the two car sets, usually consisting of three cars. Unfortunately Lufthansa halted all service at “Elevation Zero” on May 23, 1993 and road number 103 101 was thereby underway for the last time on the day before.

Informations concernant la locomotive réelleLorsque le 2 juin 1991, la nouvelle ligne Stuttgart-Mannheim fut mise en service, l’Airport Express Stuttgart – Francfort Aéroport était lui aussi censé emprunter cette ligne. Mais du fait de la vitesse plus élevée et surtout de la probléma-tique de pression dans les nombreux tunnels de la nouvelle ligne, les véhicules utilisés jusqu’alors ne convenaient plus. La réduction du temps de trajet à 90 minutes engendra l’élargissement à quatre paires de trains quotidiens qui ne devaient être remorqués que par une seule locomotive. Le peu de temps disponible pour une remise en tête à Stuttgart rendait toutefois inévitable le recours à deux rames. Des voitures transformées selon les directives de la Lufthansa, résistant à la pression et remorquées par la locomotive électrique 103 101 du dépôt de Francfort/Main aux couleurs du train composaient alors l’Airport-Express.La 103 revêtit donc une livrée assortie à la rame aux cou-leurs de la Lufthansa. Contrairement aux voitures, la 103 101 n’était toutefois pas résistante à la pression, raison pour la-quelle le tracé fut conçu de manière à éviter tout croisement de trains dans les sections à tunnel.Le peu de temps accordé à la remise en tête à Stuttgart entraînait à un „changement éclair“ entre les deux rames, généralement à trois éléments. Le 23 mai 1993, la Lufthansa suspendit hélas tous les services à „altitude zéro“, la 103 101 ayant ainsi effectué son dernier voyage la veille.

In combinatie met een rijtijdverkorting tot 90 minuten volgde een uitbreiding tot vier dagelijkse treinenparen, die alleen met een locomotief konden worden gereden. Door de korte keertijden in Stuttgart waren echter twee treinstellen nodig. De Airport Express werd nu verzorgd met in opdracht van Lufthansa herziene, drukdichte wagens en de qua kleur op de trein aangepaste elektrische locomotief 103 101 van de Bw Frankfurt/Main.De kleuren van de 103 werden aangepast aan een kleur-beeld in de Lufthansa-kleuren, dat bij het treinstel paste. In tegenstelling tot het wagenmateriaal was de 103 101 niet drukverbeterd, zodat men de treintrajecten dusdanig moest plannen dat er geen treinen elkaar in tunnels konden kruisen.De korte keertijden in Stuttgart leidden dan tot een “vlie-gende wissel” tussen beide, doorgaans driedelige wagen-sets. Helaas stelde Lufthansa vanaf 23 mei 1993 de volledige service op “vlieghoogte nul” in. Daarmee is ook de 103 101 de dag daarvoor voor de laatste keer onderweg geweest.
