All’epoca di Plinio, ai tempi dell’impero romano, Peschiera era chiamata Arilica ed aveva già una notevole importanza. Poi, lungo i secoli, venne fortificata dagli Scaligeri, da Venezia, dall’Austria e dall’Italia. Le mura vennero disegnate da grandi architetti: buona parte è opera del Sanmicheli.Oggi i bastioni e i vicoli del centro storico ospitano negozi, ristoranti, gelaterie, strutture per il tempo libero. In riva al lago ci sono gli impianti per gli sport nautici: vela, motonautica, sup. Una quarantina di accoglienti alberghi ed una decina fra i più grandi ed attrezzati campeggi del lago accolgono i turisti. Nel territorio circostante si trovano parchi naturalistici e di divertimento fra i più noti d’Europa. Questa è anche zona di fertili campagne ed ottimi vini, che richiamarono in passato nelle ville, re, mercanti e cardinali: erano le premesse dell’attuale ospitalità turistica che ormai ha raggiunto la piena internazionalità globale.
Bereits zur Zeit des Plinius, im Römischen Reich, wurde Peschiera Arilica genannt und hatte eine erhebliche Bedeutung. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte wurde die Stadt von den Scaliger aus Venedig, dann von Österreich und Italien befestigt. Die Festungsmauern wurden von berühmten Architekten entworfen: zum größten Teil sind sie der Arbeit von Sanmicheli zuzuschreiben. Heute beherbergen die Wälle und die Gassen der Altstadt viele touristenfreundlichen Geschäfte, Restaurants, Eisdielen sowie Einrichtungen für die Freizeit. In der Umgebung gibt es mehrere Naturparks und Freizeitunterhaltungen , die zu den bekanntesten in Europa zählen. In der Gegend findet man auch eine fruchtbare Landschaft und feine Weingebieten. Hier wurden viele historischen Villen errichtet, die dann von Königen, Kaufleuten und Kardinälen bewohnt wurden. Heute sind viele solchen Villen als Hotels oder Gastgewerbe vom internationalen Rang umgebaut worden.
At the time of Pliny, during the Roman Empire, Peschiera was called Arilica and had already a considerable importance. Later, in the next centuries, it was fortified by the Scaligeri, by Venice, Austria and Italy. The walls were designed by famous architects: a good part of it is the work of Sanmicheli. Today you can find shops, bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours inside the pentagon shaped fortress where the city centre is located. Along the lakeside there are many facilities for water sports like; sailing, motor boat rentals, sup and more. Peschiera del Garda has around forty cozy hotels and a dozen of the biggest and best equipped campsites of the lake. In the surrounding area there are both natural parks as amusement parks among the best known in Europe. Thanks to the lake we have a fertile countryside and a very fine wine area, which in the past attracted kings, merchants and cardinals, our first ‘tourists’! Now, our tourist accommodations receive people from all over the world!
Sullo stemma araldico di Peschiera del Garda ci sono due anguille e una stella. La spiegazione di questi simboli la descrive duemila anni fa nel “Naturalis historia” Plinio il Vecchio, storico, scienziato e grammatico: “Quando splende la stella d’autunno (cioè quando si vede brillare nel cielo il pianeta Venere), le anguille arrivano qui a migliaia”.
Auf dem Wappen von Peschiera del Garda gibt es zwei Aale und ein Stern. Die Erklärung dieser Symbole wurde bereits vor zweitausend Jahren in der “Naturalis Historia” von Plinius dem Älteren, Historiker, Wissenschaftler und Grammatiker schon beschrieben, : “Wenn der Herbst Stern am Himmel erscheint (d.h., wenn Sie den Planeten Venus im Himmel leuchten sehen),dann ist es an der Zeit, wo die Aale zu Tausenden hierher kommen “.
The Coat of Arms of Peschiera del Garda contains two eels and a star. The explanation of these symbols was described two thousand years ago in the “Naturalis Historia” by Gaius Plinius Secundus, better known as Plinio il Vecchio (Pliny the Elder) a roman author, natural philosopher, historian, scientist, and grammarian: “When the autumn star is shining (i.e. When you see the planet Venus shining in the sky), the eels here arrive in thousands “.

Arilica ist der antike Name von Peschiera del Garda und wird auf die römische Kolonisation im ersten Jahrhundert vor Chr. Zurückgeführt. Ihre Bewohner werden auch heute noch Arilicensi genannt und sind ihrer circa zehntausend. Aber während der Sommer-Saison kann die Stadt, dank ihrer zahlreichen Unterkunfts-Strukturen mehr als 50.000 Personen beherbergen.Unter der fünfhundertjährigen Herrschaft der Venezianischen Republik Serenissima wurden durch die Veränderung des natürlichen Verlaufes des Flusses Mincio – Ausfluss aus dem Gardasee – drei Ausfluss-Verzweigungen geschaffen, um eine bessere Verteidigung der Stadt zu gewähren. Später wurde sie mit einer gemauerten Befestigungsanlage in Form eines Pentagons umschlossen.Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde sie zusammen mit Legnago, Mantua und Verona Teil des imposantesten Verteidigungs-Systems Italiens, dem Quadrilatero. Peschiera del Garda ist ein Schmuckstück der Architektur, der Kunst und der Kultur und ist im Jahre 2007 als blühende Gemeinde, im Jahre 2012 als virtuose Stadt und jetzt als Schmuck-Gemeinde Italiens ausgezeichnet worden. Die Stadt verfügt über ein Eisenbahnhof auf der Verbindungslinie Mailand-Venedig, einen Hafen, der durch seine Schiffsflotte mit allen Orten des Gardasees verbunden ist, eine Autobahnabfahrt von der A4 und ist 23km vom Flughafen Verona entfernt. Auf keinen Fall zu versäumen ist ein Besuch des Dorfes Borghetto, 15 km von Peschiera entfernt und der Wahlfahrtskirche Madonna del Frassino ‘Königin des Garda’. Der bekannteste Wein der Gegend ist der Weißwein Lugana D.O.C.
Arilica è il nome antico di Peschiera del Garda e risale alla colonizzazione romana del primo secolo A.C. I suoi abitanti sono chiamati ancora Arilicensi e sono circa diecimila, ma nel periodo estivo grazie alle numerose strutture ricettive, la città, è in grado di ospitare più di 50.000 persone. Sotto la dominazione cinquecentesca della Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia, modificando il percorso naturale del fiume Mincio, emissario del Lago di Garda, vennero creati tre rami di uscita per permettere una migliore difesa della città che fu poi racchiusa in un fortilizio murato di forma pentagonale. Nel 1800 diventò parte del sistema difensivo più imponente d’Italia, il Quadrilatero, assieme a Legnago, Mantova e Verona. Peschiera del Garda è un gioiello d’architettura, d’arte e di cultura ed è stata premiata come Comune Fiorito dal 2007, città virtuosa 2012 ed ora Comune Gioiello d’Italia. La città dispone di una stazione ferroviaria sulla linea Milano-Venezia, di un porto che collega a tutti i paesi del lago mediante battelli, di un casello di uscita sull’Autostrada A4 e si trova a 23 chilometri dall’Aeroporto di Verona. Da non perdere la visita al villaggio di Borghetto, a 15 km da Peschiera ed al Santuario della Madonna del Frassino ‘Regina del Garda’- Il più rinomato vino della zona è il bianco Lugana D.O.C.
Arilica is the old name of Peschiera Del Garda and comes from the roman colonization in the 1st century B.C. Its inhabitants, approximately 10.000, are still called “Arilicensi”. During the summer the city can host more than 50.000 people thanks to its many accommodations. During the sixteenth-century domination of the Republic of Venice known as “The Serenissima Republic of Venice”, by modifying the natural path of the river Mincio, outflowing river of Garda Lake, three exiting branch have been created in order to permit a better city defence. Afterwards the city has been enclosed in a pentagonal fortress. In the 19th century it became part of the most majestic defending system of Italy “Il Quadrilatero” together with Legnago, Mantova and Verona. Peschiera del Garda is an architectural, artistic and cultural jewel. It has been awarded as The Bloomy Municipality from 2007, The Virtuous city of 2012, and now The Jewel Municipality of Italy. The inhabitants of Peschiera can count on a railway station on the Milan-Venice way, a port which communicates with all the cities in the lake through boats, a tool-booth on the A4 freeway. Peschiera is only 23 kms far from the Airport of Verona. Do not miss to visit Borghetto (15 km from Peschiera) and the Shrine to the Virgin Mary of Frassino “Queen of Garda” – Moreover, the most fine wine of this area is the white wine Lugana D.O.C.

SALA RADETZKY: La storia della città, da sempre legata alla sua collocazione geografica, ha visto il suo nome trasformarsi dall’antica Arilica a “Ardelicae Pischeriae” a Piscaria al tempo dei longobardi, a Peschiera di oggi a testimonianza di quanto la pesca abbia caratterizzato la vita e la cultura del luogo al punto di cambiarne il nome originario. Questa esposizione permanente, attraverso cimeli di antiche imbarcazioni, pezzi rari, talvolta unici, strumenti e materiali, bellissime immagini d’epoca con didascalie e informazioni, racconta la storia della tradizione e della cultura gardesana della pesca proprio a Peschiera del Garda, capitale della pesca sul lago.
SALA RADETZKY: Die Geschichte der Stadt ist seit jeher mit seiner geografischen Lage in Verbindung gebracht worden und seinen Namen von der alten Arilica in “Ardelicae Pischeriae” unvd in Piscaria zum Zeitpunkt der Langobarden in Peschiera geändert worden, als Zeichen dafür, wie die Fischerei das Leben und die Kultur des Ortes gekennzeichnet hat. Die Dauerausstellung, durch alte Boote, seltene Stücke, manchmal einzigartig, Werkzeuge und Materialien und schöne Bilder aus früheren Zeiten mit Beschriftungen und Informationen, erzählt die Geschichte der Tradition und Kultur der Fischerei des Gardasees gerade hier in Peschiera del Garda, die als Fischerei-Hauptstadt des Sees angesehen wird.
SALA RADETZKY: The name of the city, “Piscaria” during the Lombard dominion, testifies the importance of the fishing in the lake culture. This exciting permanent exhibition, through relics of ancient boats, rare pieces, sometimes unique, tools and materials, beautiful images with captions and historical information, tells the fishing tradition of Peschiera del Garda, the capital of fishing on the lake. Everything takes visitors on an exciting journey that brings to life the fascinating lives of the fishermen and the atmosphere of the lake.

2017 UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE: The Venetian works of defence between 15th and 17th Centuries Peschiera del Garda, was inscripted in the UNESCO world heritage list for: “The venetian works of defence between 15th and 17th centuries”. Developed for over 1,000 km through Italy, Croatia and Montenegro, the defence system of the Serenissima Repubblica is the topic of the serial transnational cultural site that was listed in the UNESCO list in July 2017.

2011 UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE: The Pile dwellings in Peschiera del GardaThe Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps include a selection of 111 out of the merely 1000 known archaeological pile-dwelling sites in six countries around the Alps including 19 sites in Italy and in particular 2 in Peschiera area; Frassino Lake and Belvedere. This area has remains of prehistoric pile-dwelling settlements dating from 5000 to 500 BC which are situated under water, on lake shores, along rivers or in wetland, offering exceptional conservation conditions for organic remains such as wood, textiles, plant remains or bones. La FortezzaFortilizio romano, castello e rocca scaligera, fortezza bastionata della repubblica veneta nel Cinquecento; fortezza napoleonica; piazzaforte asburgica del leggendario Quadrilatero. In poche città, come a Peschiera, sono presenti le epoche fondamentali della fortificazione.
L’itinerario ideale di visita parte dal parcheggio che si trova ad ovest della Fortezza, presso 1. Porta Brescia (1551): già da qui si osserva l’imponente fronte bastionato cinquecentesco, difeso dal fossato acqueo chiamato Fossa Reale, ramo destro del Mincio. Si attraversa il Ponte di Porta Brescia (1760-1770 progetto di Anton Maria Lorgna) e si entra nella fortezza. Si procede lasciando sulla destra Porta Brescia e si giunge davanti al grandioso asburgico 2. Ospedale Militare d’Armata a prova di bomba costruito nel 1866. Alla nostra sinistra si trova l’antica Piazza d’Armi oggi Piazza Ferdinando di Savoia, la Chiesa di San Martino –patrono di Peschiera del Gardae gli 3. Scavi con i resti romani dell’antica Arilica I-IV secolo D.C. Sul lato meridionale della piazza si eleva il 4. Complesso della Rocca, fortilizio tardo romano, fortificato dagli scaligeri (XIII – XIV secolo), ristrutturato in epoca veneta (XVI – XVII secolo) come arsenale, ed in epoca asburgica (1837 e 1861). Dal maestoso ingresso seicentesco si osserva, sul fondo del cortile, il portale dell’imponente Cavaliere della rocca (1575): nel sotterraneo del cavaliere sono visibili le vestigia del castello scaligero. Si prosegue verso il fortificato Ponte dei Voltoni del 1556 sul Canale di Mezzo, ramo principale del Mincio: dalla sommità del ponte si aprono suggestive vedute sulla città fortificata e sul Mincio. Nella parte della fortezza sulla riva sinistra si giunge alla piazza dei Quartieri militari asburgici, oggi Parco Catullo. Per primi si notano la 5. Palleria Austriaca e lo 6. Stabilimento d’Artiglieria di Porta Verona (1854-57) completamente restaurato e aperto al pubblico nel 2002, sede della Biblioteca civica e dell’archivio storico del comune: nel cortile all’interno il Laboratorio Pirotecnico, ora sala Radetzky. Si esce all’esterno della Fortezza attraverso 7. Porta Verona del 1553 per osservare la bella facciata marmorea sulla quale campeggia il Leone di San Marco, distrutto dai napoleonici (si noti l’iscrizione sulla traberazione che dice: “DISCE HAEC MONEAT PRAECELSA LEONIS IMAGO NE STIMVLES VENETI CEV LEO IN HOSTE VIGENT” – “Che tu sappia! Questa eccelsa immagine del leone ti dissuada dal provocare i Veneti, giacchè essi contro il nemico hanno il vigore del leone”). Attraverso il ponte sul ramo sinistro del Mincio, la veduta abbraccia l’intero fronte fortificato, con i 8a. Bastioni di San Marco del 1553 alla nostra sinistra e il 8b. Bastione Querini del 1552 alla nostra destra. Si rientra in città da Porta Verona e alla nostra destra vediamo l’imponente 9. Caserma Franciscus I del 1822, oggi sede della Scuola
di Polizia. Sul lato più occidentale del parco, si erge il 10. Palazzo del Comando di Piazzaforte del 1854 chiamato anche Palazzina Storica nel quale si tenne il Convegno del 1917. Sul lato opposto del parco, lungo il Canale di Mezzo, si affaccia il 11. Padiglione Grandi Ufficiali del 1856. Oltrepassato il Canale di Mezzo, si arriva in 12. Piazzale Betteloni dove sorge un’altra imponente costruzione ex Caserma di Cavalleria oggi sede del Municipio. Si sale lungo l’alta scarpata sul 8c. Bastione Tognon del 1552. Si prosegue lungo la cortina di collegamento superando sul cammino di ronda l’imponente Porta Brescia e si raggiunge la sommità del 8d. Bastione Feltrin del 1551, in cui è insediata la 14. Polveriera austriaca tutt’ora intatta. Si lasciano i bastioni discendendo in città: attraverso Via Roma (già Corso Brescia) e Via Dante (già Corso Piazza Erbe) si giunge in piazza San Marco con gli obelischi cinquecenteschi ed il seicentesco 13. Palazzo del Provveditore Veneto nel periodo austriaco detto Palazzo della Comunità. Da qui si ritorna al parcheggio di Porta Brescia, dove, avendo a disposizione ancora un po’ di tempo, attraverso il cammino di ronda, oggi chiamato p a s s e g g i a t a “ M o n t a g n i ” ( a t t e n z i o n e manca di protezione sul fiume Mincio) si può ammirare l ’ i m p o n e n t e bastionata che dal Baluardo Feltrin costeggia la Fossa Reale fino al 8e. Bastione Cantarane del 1551. Si prosegue sino a raggiungere la riva destra del fiume Mincio dove inizia ufficialmente la pista ciclabile Peschiera/Mantova.

Die FestungNur in wenigen Städten wie Peschiera findet man Zeugnisse einer derartige Festungsanlage über Jahrhunderte: zuerst als Römischer Lager, dann Schloss und Scaliger Burg, später Festungsbollwerke der Republik Venedig im sechzehnten Jahrhundert, Napoleonischer Stutzpunkt, und zuletzt Abwehrsystems des Habsburger Vierecks „Quadrilater“.
Wir empfehlen Ihren Besuch vom Parkplatz westlich der Festung in der Nähe vom 1. Brescia Tor (1551) zu beginnen : von hier aus kann man schon die imposanten 16 Jh. Wälle von einem Wassergraben geschützt betrachten, einst ein Zweig des Flusses Mincio. Überqueren Sie die Brücke von der Porta Brescia (1760-1770 Projekt von Anton Maria Lorgna) um die Festung zu betreten. Weiter geht es auf der rechten Seite, nach der Porta Brescia, zum 2. Habsburger Militärkrankenhaus, das im Jahre 1866 errichtet wurde. Auf der linken Seite finden Sie die alte „Piazza delle Armi“ , heute “Piazza Ferdinando di Savoia” mit der St. Martin`s Kirche,( Schutzpatron der Stadt) und den Ausgrabungen mit den römischen 3. Ruinen von Arilica, (I-IV Jh. n.Chr.). Auf der südlichen Seite des Platzes steht 4. die Rocca Felsfestung, das spätrömische Kastell, von den Scaliger befestigt (XIII - XIV Jh.) und zum Arsenal in der venezianischen Zeit umgebaut,(XVI - XVII Jh.) und zuletzt zur Habsburger Zeit restauriert(1837-1861). Am majestätischen Eingang (XVII Jh.) kann man im hinteren Teil des Hofes, das Tor der imposanten Ritterfestung, Cavaliere della Rocca (1575) betrachten: im Keller der Festung sind die Reste der Scaliger Burg sichtbar. Laufen Sie weiter Richtung befestigte Brücke von Voltoni vom 1556 auf dem Canale di Mezzo, der Hauptzweig des Mincio Fluss: Auf der Brücke öffnet sich ein malerischer Blick auf die befestigte Stadt und den Mincio. Am linken Flussufer ist der Platz, wo sich das österreichische Militär Hauptquartier befand, heute “Catullo Park” genannt. Zuerst sieht man die 5. Palleria Austriaca und das Gebäude 6. der österreichischen Artillerie an der Porta Verona
( 1 8 5 4 - 1 8 5 7 ) v o l l s t ä n d i g restauriert und im Jahr 2002 dem Publikum z u g ä n g l i c h g e m a c h t , b e h e r b e r g t heute die ö f f e n t l i c h e Bibliothek und das historische Archiv der Stadt: auf dem Hof die Feuerwerksstätte, jetzt Radetzky Saal. “. Außerhalb der Festung kann man 7. das Verona Tor vom 1553 aus Marmor mit einer Statue des Markuslöwen bewundern, die von den Truppen Napoleons beschädigt wurde. Inschrift: ( “Disce HAEC MONEAT PRAECELSA LEONIS IMAGO NE STIMVLES VENETI CEV LEO IN HOSTE vigent”)( aus dem lat. : Dieses erhabene Bild des Löwen soll davon abbringen, die Venezianer zu bekämpfen , da sie gegen den Feind die Kraft des Löwen nachweisen “). Über die Brücke auf dem linken Arm des Mincio umfasst die Ansicht, die gesamte befestigte Frontseite , mit den 8a. Bastionen von San Marco in 1553 links und 8b. Bastion Querini 1552 rechts. Von hier aus gehen wir in die Stadt zurück und in den Catullo Park, rechts befindet sich 9. “ Die Kaserne Franciscus I “, Sitz der heutigen Polizeischule. Auf der Westseite des Parks sehen Sie 10. “Das Gebäude des Befehls von Piazzaforte “ ( 1854) auch “Palazzina storica“ genannt, wo im 1917 eine wichtige Konvention stattfand. Auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite des Parks, entlang des Canale di Mezzo, befindet sich 11. der Pavillon der Großen Offiziere von 1856. Nach dem Kanal, werden Sie 12. Piazzale Betteloni erreichen, wo Sie ein anderes imposante Gebäude, die ehemaligen Kavalleriekaserne, heute Sitz des Gemeindehauses betrachten können. Steigen
. Sie entlang der
hohen Böschung auf 8c. zu dem Tognon
Bastion von 1552. Hier geht es weiter entlang dem Patrouillenweg über dem imposanten Porta Brescia zum 8d. Feltrin Bastion (1551) und zu 14. “Polveriera austriaca“ , die noch intakt ist. Sie verlassen die absteigenden Bastionen und gehen Sie Richtung Stadt zurück und nach unten in die Via Roma (bereits Corso Brescia) und in die Via Dante (bereits Corso Piazza Erbe) um die Piazza San Marco zu erreichen, mit den Obelisken vom 16. und 17. Jh. und dem 13. Palast der Superintendenten von Venetien in der österreichischen Zeit, auch bekannt als Palazzo della Comunità. Von hier kommt man zu dem Parkplatz von Porta Brescia zurück und wenn sie noch ein wenig Zeit haben, können Sie die Promenade “Montagni” laufen, (Achtung: Es fehlt hier die Schutzwand auf dem Fluss Mincio). Sie können hier die imposanten Stadtmauer und die beeindruckende Bastionswerke des Bollwerkes Feltrin entlang der Fossa Reale ( am königlichen Graben) bis zu 8e. Bastion Cantarane von 1551 bewundern. Laufen Sie weiter, bis Sie das rechte Ufer vom Mincio erreichen, wo der offizielle Radweg Peschiera / Mantua beginnt.

Very few Italian cities have examples of fortified structures from so many different ages as Peschiera does. It was once a Roman fortress, then a Scaligeri castle and fortress, a Venetian fortress with ramparts from the sixteenth century, modified by Napoleon, and modified again by the Austrians where it became part of the legendary “Quadrilateral”.
We recommend beginning your visit from the parking lot west of the Fortress, near 1. Porta Brescia. The imposing sixteenth century fortress is protected by a moat, which was a branch of the Mincio River. Cross the eighteenth century Bridge that leads you to Porta Brescia and after the gate you continue on to the right and there you will find the majestic 2. Austrian Hospital built in 1866, that became a military jail in the same year as the construction. To the left you will find the old parade ground, now called “Piazza Ferdinando di Savoia”, with St. Martin`s Church and you may also observe archeologically excavation which have revealed 3. Roman ruins from I- IV A.D. On the southern side stands the 4. Rocca Complex. It was originally a late Roman structure, which was fortified by the Scaligeri family in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Venetian turned the castle into an arsenal in the sixteenth and seventeenth century, and the Austrian also used it between 1837 and 1861. From the majestic seventeenth century entrance, one sees the imposing Knight of the Castle’s portal made in 1575. In the basement of this part of the fortress, the vestiges of the Scaligero Castle are visible. From here you proceed to Voltoni Bridge, which was built in 1556 over Canale di Mezzo, the main branch of the Mincio River. From the top of the bridge you are able to enjoy an enchanting view over the fortified city and the Mincio River. On the left bank of the river is the square where the Austrian military head quarters
were located, named “Parco Catullo”. The 5. Palleria Austriaca and the recently restored 6. “Artillery Barracks at Porta Verona”. Outside the fortress you can admire the marble main entrance gate 7. Porta Verona with a statue of St. Mark’s Lion, (“DISCE HAEC MONEAT PRAECELSA LEONIS IMAGO NE STIMVLES VENETI CEV LEO IN HOSTE
VIGENT”) which was damaged by Napoleon’s troops. From across the external branch of the Mincio River, you can see the
external part of the fortress, including 8a St. Mark’s Rampart (1553) on the left side and 8b Querini’s
Rampart (1552) on the right. From here you enter in Parco Catullo again and on your right
you see 9. “Franciscus I Barracks”, today Police’s School. On the west side of the
Park you see the 10. “Parade Grounds Command Building” also “Palazzina Storica” (1854), where the Convention of 1917 was held. The 11. “Official’s Pavillion” (1556) is situated along “Canale di Mezzo”, left to the Palazzina Storica. Crossing the “Canale di Mezzo”, you find 12. Piazza Betteloni and the Town Hall. From there you can go on top of 8c. “Tognon’s Rampart” (1552) and walk to 8d. “Feltrin’s Rampart” (1551) and admire a large part of the fortress and
the 14. “Vecchia Polveriera Austriaca”. Then you go down into
the old town along via Roma and via Dante to Piazza S. Marco where the 13.
Building of the Venetian Command is located. Afterwards you return to the
parking of Brescia Gate and, if you want, you can continue on the “Montagni” walking trail:
which leads down to the Feltrin’s Rampart and runs along the moat, providing beautiful glimpses of the
Fortress. You can see 8e “Cantarane’s Rampart” (1551). And if you keep on following the trail you get to the cycle trail along
the Mincio river.

LUOGHI DI CULTO: Religione, arte e storia convivono nel santuario della Madonna del Frassino, eretto nel luogo dove - secondo la tradizione religiosa - il contadino Bartolomeo Broglia, aggredito da un serpente, avrebbe visto materializzarsi una statuetta della Madonna l’11 maggio 1510 fra i rami di un frassino. La chiesa ospita al suo interno numerose e pregevoli opere di Farinati, di Bertanza e di Zeno da Verona.. Nel centro del paese si trova inoltre la chiesa di San Martino, considerata una delle chiese più antiche della Diocesi di Verona: al suo interno è conservata una reliquia del Beato Andrea da Peschiera. Nel territorio comunale sono presenti anche altre due chiese: quella dedicata a San Benedetto, del 1962 e quella dedicata al Beato Andrea da Peschiera, edificata nel 1988.
WORSHIP SITES: Peschiera is famous also thanks to its religious, artistic and historical features. Amidst morainic hills, near the small glacial lake of Frassino (ash-tree) rose the Convent and Sanctuary in 1514. The Minor Franciscans were summoned to manage them. The place got its name from the miraculous apparition of the Madonna. The luminous, small statue in baked clay, made in France and left by a French soldier, suddenly appeared to Bartolomeo Broglia, who had been attached by a snake while trimming his vine-yard, in 1510. San Martino church in the city center of Peschiera is one of the most ancient churches in the Diocese of Verona. San Benedetto Church (1962) and Beato Andrea Church (1988) are the other two minor churches present in the city.
WALLFAHRTSORTE: Religion, Kunst und Geschichte leben zusammen im Sanktuarium der Heigen Madonna del Frassino, an der Stelle errichtet, wo - nach religiösen Tradition - am 11. Mai 1510 der Bauer Bartolomeo Broglia, von einer Schlange angegriffen, sah wie sich eine kleine Statue unserer Lieben Frau aus den Zweigen einer Esche materialisierte. Die Kirche beherbergt im Inneren zahlreiche und wertvolle Werke von Farinati von Bertanza und Zeno von Verona. Im Dorfzentrum befindet sich auch die San Martino Kirche, die als einer der ältesten Kirchen in der Diözese von Verona zählt: darin wird Reliquie der seligen Andrea von Peschiera bewahrt. Im Gemeindegebiet gibt es auch zwei andere Kirchen: die St. Benedikt Kirche im Jahre 1962 errichtet und eine andere dem Seligen Andrea von Peschiera, Baujahr 1988 gewidmet.

Peschiera del Garda offre numerose passeggiate a partire dai bellissimi lungolago alberati Mazzini e Garibaldi, fino alle passeggiate panoramiche in mezzo al verde sui Bastioni della città. Passeggiate Lungolago: bellissima passeggiata naturalistica a piedi in riva al lago che partendo dal Lungolago Mazzini in direzione ovest, percorre il litorale sino a raggiungere il Porticciolo Bergamini e il Porticciolo Fornaci per una lunghezza di circa tre chilometri. La passeggiata è anche percorso vita con cartelli segnaletici e attrezzature ginniche. La zona è balneabile con presenza di tutti i servizi spiaggia e possibilità di effettuare sport d’acqua. Per chi volesse percorrere un itinerario più lungo in riva al lago può seguire dal Lungolago Garibaldi la costa e passando Lazise e Bardolino arrivare fino a Garda in circa 17 km. Passeggiata “Montagni”: bellissima passeggiata naturalistica che parte nei pressi del Campo Sportivo e scendendo dal contro bastione Feltrin costeggia la Fossa Reale con particolari scorci sulla Fortezza sino a raggiungere la riva destra del fiume Mincio e, proseguendo, la diga in località Salionze. La prima parte si può percorrere solo a piedi ed è anche percorso vita.
Peschiera del Garda bietet zahlreiche Wanderungen ausgehend von den schönen, von Bäumen gesäumten Seepromenaden Mazzini und Garibaldi, zu den Spaziergängen mit schönem Panoramablick auf den Stadtmauern. Spaziergang Cappuccini: Schöne Naturwanderung zu Fuß am Seeufer entlang. Ausgehend vom Lungolago Mazzini in westlicher Richtung , direkt an der Küste entlang, bis man die Marina Bergamini und die Marina Fornaci nach etwa drei Kilometern erreicht. Der Weg ist auch ein Trimm-Dich Pfad mit unterschiedlichen Turngeräten. Hier findet man Badestrände sowie Strand-und Wassersportseinrichtungen. Spaziergang Garibaldi: Wenn man eine längere Strecke am Seeufer entlang zurücklegen möchte, dann startet man von der Seepromendae Lungolago Garibaldi und von hier aus kann man Lazise, Bardolino und Garda erreichen, insgs. 17 Km. Spaziergang “Montagni”: Schöne Naturwanderung zu Fuß, die von der Nähe des Sportplatzes beginnt und gegenüber dem Feltrin Bastion entlang der Fossa Reale mit besonderem Blick auf die Festung absteigend verläuft , bis man das rechte Ufer des Flusses Mincio erreicht. Der Weg verläuft weiter bis zum Damm im Dorf Salionze.
Peschiera del Garda has numerous walking paths. Starting with the two beautiful paths along the lakeside ‘Lungolago Mazzini’ and ‘Lungolago Garibaldi’ up to the relaxing walking and bike trail in a beautiful green surrounding with a view on the external part of the fortress.Walking along the lakeside:There is a beautiful walking path that starts at Lungolago Mazzini and takes you to the Bergamini and Fornaci harbours with exercise equipment along the path. This is the same area where you can find boat rentals and do all kinds of water sports. For those who want to make a longer walk along the lakeside there is a walking path that starts at Lungolago Garibaldi and goes all the way up to Garda, almost 17 km from Peschiera. The ‘Montagni’ walking trail: This is the most famous walking and cycle trail of the area. This trail begins with a stunning view on the external part of the fortress where the river Mincio starts. Leaving Peschiera del Garda behind and following the river, the route crosses the gentle landscape of the morainic hills, with cereal crops and vineyards. Taking you to the town of Salionze, Monzambano, Valeggio sul Mincio and after 40 km the impressive city Mantua.

Surroundings
Alla fine del XVIII secolo, gli avvenimenti bellici originati dalla rivoluzione francese interessarono anche i territori della valle del Mincio. In particolare per i possedimenti italiani, le campagne napoleoniche sperimentarono varianti di un disegno strategico in cui le linee fluviali del Mincio e dell’Adige, con i territori fra loro compresi, costituivano un sistema difensivo già configurato dalla natura e dalla storia, che richiedeva solo di essere potenziato e rafforzato. L’effettiva validità di tale dispositivo fu però confermata solo durante la campagna di guerra del 1848-49. Ne seguì la definitiva impostazione del Quadrilatero, un sistema difensivo su scala territoriale nato dall’intuizione del feldmaresciallo Josef Radetzky, che coniugava le potenzialità difensive delle linee fluviali del Mincio e dell’Adige con quelle delle fortezze di Verona, Legnago, Peschiera e Mantova. Verona, in posizione arretrata e direttamente collegata all’Impero, costituiva il deposito dove concentrare tutti i rifornimenti militari del Lombardo - Veneto, Legnago, in seconda linea, come testa di ponte assicurava l’appoggio all’ala del medio Adige, mentre Peschiera e Mantova, poste sulla linea del Mincio, in posizione avanzata, costituivano i perni di manovra dell’armata.

Danach kam die endgültige Organisation des Viereckes, nämlich ein territoriales Verteidigungssystem, das von einer Intuition des Feldmarschalls Josef Radetzky geboren wurde, das die Verteidigungsmöglichkeiten der Flüsse Mincio und Etsch mit denen der Festungen von Verona, Legnago, Peschiera und Mantua verband. Verona stellte das Depot dar, wo alle Nachschübe des Gebiets zwischen Lombardei und Venetien gesammelt wurden, Legnago war eine Stütze für den mittleren Etsch, Peschiera und Mantua waren der Kern der militärischen Aktionen. Mantua, Peschiera und Borgoforte bildeten ein System zur Kontrolle der westlichen Seite des Viereckes.
At the end of the 18th century, war events following the French Revolution touched the Mincio Valley, too. For the Italian Campaigns, Napoleon’s army applied a strategy, which took advantage of the position of the Mincio and Adige rivers and of the territories in between: that was a ready-made defence system, which nature and history had already built, and which only needed to be strengthened. The effectiveness of this scheme was fully proven during the 1848-49 war, when the Quadrilatero was definitively designed: this territorial defence system came from an intuition by Field marshal Josef Radetzky, and it combined the defence potentialities of the Mincio and Adige rivers with those of the fortresses in Verona, Legnago, Peschiera and Mantua. Verona, which was located in the rear and directly linked with the Empire, served as a depot for all the military supplies for the Lombardo-Venetian Kingdom; Legnago, in second line, was a bridgehead that granted support to the mid-Adige wing; Mantua and Peschiera, on the frontline along the Mincio River, were pivotal in army manoeuvres.
