Janusz Korczak
• Janusz Korczak was thepseudonym of the polishphysician, author and educatorHenryk Goldszmit (1878-1942)
• He founded an orphanage forjewish children in Warsaw. The orphanage was moved to theWarsaw ghetto during theGerman occupation of Poland.
• Korczak died in 1942 in theTreblinka concentration camp together with 200 of theorphans.
• The ideas of Korczak were revolutionaryfor education.
• His pleading for childrens‘ rights, forforgiveness and gentleness, for love and humor in education were formative formodern ideas of education.
• Korczak worked with the principles ofdemocratic responsibility and participation.
• His main motto was „The child does not become a human being, it alreadyis one“
