By Richard Miller This year’s Annual Gala Celebration and Awards Dinner was held on June 21 where keynote speaker Mich ael Brune, Exe cuti ve Direct or of the Sierra Club , inspired all those who attended to get and remain active. The Chapters FEA T and V olunteer A wards were presented to those who had contributed their time and effort to making connections between the environment an d social justice, to fostering local solu- tions to global issues, and helping commu nities make sound environmental decisions about their own future. This year the San Diego Chapter recognized the fol- lowing for their commitment to the environment and the Chapter. The committee seeks a diverse po ol of candidates, balanced in terms of gender , ethni city , and geograph y. The Chapter memb ership will elect five Executive Commi ttee members in 2011. The candidate questionnaire is available by contacting Richard Miller at 858-569-6005 or [email protected]. The ideal candidate for the San Diego Chapter Executive Committee is an experienced, effective leader who has a clear vision for the Chapter’ s future and a proven capacity to work with people to achieve goals and resolve problems. The Nominati ng Committee will contact potential candida tes, and will send a questionnaire to those who request one. After reviewing returned questionnaires, the N ominating Committee will select applicants for interviews. T o be considered for an interview, candidates must retu rn completed questionnaires t o the Nominati ng Commi ttee by J uly 22, 2011. The Nominating Committee will announce its candidates at the August 10,2011 Chapter Executive Committee meeting. In addition to the nomina- tion process, the Chapter allows candida tes to qualify for the ballot by a petition pr ocess, as specified in the b ylaws. The Ex ecutive Committee, composed of nine elected volunteers a nd an appointed representati ve from each Chapter Group , has the legal responsibility and au thority to oversee all staf f and volunteer a ctivities of the Chapter , to establish the Chapter’ s conservation prioriti es and internal policies, and to adopt and i mplement the annual budget.
