Ferdinand Porsches blue printturned the dream o automotivemobility or the masses into apeoples car. The automobilelaid the oundation or a com pany which rapidly acquiredinternational signiicance ater
the Second World War.
The motor o the Wirtschats wunder was air cooled anditted at the rear o a car whosedistinctive silhouette madeVolkswagen a household name
all over the world, just as theTransporter launched in 1950became a much loved work horse and camper.
Numerous production acilitiesoutside Europe were already
being set up in the 1950s tobring the automaker closer tothe customer.
Having evolved into a Germanautomotive group with the
acquisition o Auto UnionGmbH and NSU Motoren werke AG in the 1960s, thedynamic market success o thePassat, Gol and Polo post 1973triggered urther corporategrowth towards a multi brand
group: SEAT and Skoda wereadded in 1985 and 1991,Bentley, Lamborghini andBugatti in 1998.
The brands VolkswagenCommercial Vehicles andScania, that was acquired in2008, with actories in Europe,Arica and South America pro vide a dierentiated range oproducts spanning city vans,
trucks and busses to suit themost diverse mobility require ments.
The inancial services pro vided by Volkswagen FinancialServices AG, a company whose
roots go back as ar as 1949,also contribute to the automo tive success o the VolkswagenGroup.
Founded on strong brands, theVolkswagen Group continuesits successul automotive tradi tion with ascinating products.
Bolstered by another rise in unitsales to 7.1 million vehicles, theVolkswagen Group remains on
course to become the worldsleading automaker by 2018 economically and ecologically.
