HKIUD Urban Design Conference 2018 - Inclusive Urban Design for Active Ageing
We are all aware of the global trend of rapid ageing. World Health Organization has listed different factors for adapting cities for ageing. Lots of efforts are being done by different cities, including elderly services, healthcare and universal accessibility. However, not much systematic research or work has been seen in terms of urban design for enhancing aged people's active lifestyle. Our workshop and conference aims to explore principles and examples on inclusive urban design for active ageing. This conference explores both physical and social issues in how our cities can be more inclusive and why better urban design is essential in reinforcing the cultural ties in our communities, especially with an ageing population. This conference will provide an excellent platform for the exchange of ideas like walkability, active living environment, transport modes, social participation, healthcare, mixed-use development, etc. all under the broad scope of ‘Inclusive Urban Design’. A workshop will be held with local stakeholders and research institutes in mid March 2018. The tentatively date is 22 June 2018. We are pleased to announced that the Honourable Bernard Charnwut Chan, GBS, JP, Convenor of Non-Official Members of the Executive Council and Dr the Honourable Lam Ching-choi, BBS, JP, Non-Official Member of the Executive Council have agreed to be the keynote speakers and Prof. Winy Maas of MVRDV has accepted our invitation as speaker. We look forward to receiving suggestions from HKIUD members.
Accreditation of Post graduate Urban Design Courses
The Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD) is pleased to announce the launching of the “Guidelines for Accreditation Submission”, which sets out the requirements for education institutions seeking validation by HKIUD of their post-graduate urban design courses in fulfilling requirements of HKIUD's Professional Qualifications. Application is opened from September to December each year by written submission to the Membership and Education Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design. Guidelines for Accreditation Submission
Old Town Central Lamppost Design Competition
Organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and supported by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), and the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD) etc, the competition invited HKIUD and HKIA members to submit design proposals for lamppost decoration along Hollywood Road to further promote Old Town Central (OTC). The result was announced in early November and all lampposts decoration has already completed. We are happy to share that one of the Award Winner, Mr. Matthew Gevers is HKIUD member. You’re invited to have a visit until 31 January 2018.
