Long-distance Trains IC/EC (InterCity/EuroCity) – IC, express trains

connecting the larger domestic destinations. Trains run every hour. Some of these trains travel into adjacent countries as part of the EC (EuroCity) system.

ICE (InterCity Express) - Provides high-speed connections between the principal metropolitan areas. Trains run every hour or more frequently.

NZ (Nachtzug) – Night train - provides long-distance sleeping accommodations.

Regional Trains• IRE (InterRegioExpress) - An express train connecting

regional cities at regular intervals.

• RE (RegionalExpress) - An express train connecting medium and larger-sized towns to main rail hubs.

• RB (RegionalBahn) - Similar to RE, but slower since it stops in virtually every town along the way.

• S-Bahn (Schnellbahn) - Commuter rail service in and around major metropolitan areas.
