Neuigkeiten rund um die bereits angekündigten Venue-Tickets: Im Sinne der Verständlichkeit und Übersichtlichkeit haben wir be-schlossen, ab sofort Venue-Tickets für (und in) allen Main-Venues anzubieten, also neben Fluc und Pratersauna auch in Flex und Badeschiff. Der Ticketpreis pro Abend und Venue beträgt € 15. Besitzer von Festivalpässen werden bei Kapazitätsengpässen bevorzugt behandelt.

News on the already announced venue tickets: for the purpose of comprehensibility and clarity, we have decided to offer venue tickets for (and at) all of the main venues from now on; i.e. besides Fluc and Pratersauna, also at Flex and Badeschiff. The tickets will be € 15 per evening and venue. Owners of festival passes will be given preferential treatment in case of capacity constraints.

Von „Social Self Seeding“ bis „Reactable Meets Theremin“ reicht die Themenpalette der Festival-Workshops, die am Samstag in der Pratersauna, im Fluc und in der Eristoff Lounge abgehalten werden. Diese sind mit Vortragen-den wie etwa Munk und Telonius („Burn Studios Audio Tool“) bes-tens besetzt und finden überdies bei freiem Eintritt statt.

The topical palette of the festival workshops, which are being held on Saturday at Pratersauna, Fluc, and the Eristoff Lounge, ranges from “Social Self Seeding” to “Reactable Meets Theremin”. With people like Munk and Telonius (“Burn Studios Audio Tool”), the workshops offer high-quality speakers and, in addition, can be attended for free.

Im Produktionsbüro blühen die maritimen Metaphern – und die Stimmung schwankt wie das Badeschiff, auf und mit dem das Team für die Dauer des Festivals vor Anker liegt: zwischen übernächtiger Euphorie, etwa wenn die stampfenden Bässe von Retro Stefson – ganz unmetapho-risch – aus dem Laderaum an Deck dringen, und stressbe-dingter Getriebenheit, wenn zwischendurch immer wieder Unerwartetes an die Ober-fläche gespült wird. Kurzum: Es herrscht der ganz normale Festivalwahnsinn. Manche hier sagen auch: „Der Dampfer hat Fahrt aufgenommen!“ At the production office, the mariti-me metaphors are blooming – and the mood is swaying just like the Badeschiff on and with which the team is har-boured for the duration of the festival: between bleary-eyed euphoria, for instance when the pounding bass of Retro Stefson is – this time literally – coming through from the stowage onto the deck, and stress-induced unrest when, from time to time, unexpec-ted things are being washed ashore. In short: it’s the absolutely ordinary festival madness. Some of us might put it like this: “The steam-boat has gathered pace!”

Im Café Dogenhof präsentiert der in Wien ansässige Singer-Songwriter Ben Martin sein neues Album. Spannendes auch im Flex: Nach den aus Lettland stammenden Instrumenti, die mit theatralischem Electro-Pop betören, gastiert dort die 22-jährige US-Amerikanerin Nika Roza Danilova, besser bekannt als Zola Jesus. Experimentelle elektronische Klänge treffen dabei auf eine faszinierend dunkle Stimme. Ungefähr zur gleichen Zeit kombinieren Haight-Ashbury aus Schottland Hippie-Flair mit an Velvet Underground gemahnenden Gitarren am Clubschiff. Auch zu Wasser, allerdings auf dem Badeschiff, stellt das Wiener Garagen-Rock-Trio Black Shampoo sein Debütalbum vor. In der Fluc Wanne wiederum bezaubert das französisch-österreichische Damentrio Agent Cooper mit Witch-House und sphärischem Pop, ebendort geben danach die maskierten Is Tropical ihren tanzbaren Synth-Pop zum Besten. Mit der deutschen Künstlerin Ada, die Pop mit Techno vermengt, kann man die Nacht in der Pratersauna ausklingen lassen.

Wie kam es zu der Wandlung vom eher noisigen Sound und dunklen Themen hin zum Pop? Pop ist einfach ein wunderbares Mittel, um mehr Menschen zu erreichen als mit Noise und experimenteller Mu-sik. Du wirst immer wieder mit Siouxsie Sioux ver-glichen, stört dich das? Ich habe viel elektronische Musik gehört, 808 State oder Aphex Twin, auch viel Breakcore. Und dann kommen Leute und sagen ein-fach, das sei Siouxsie And The Banshees oder New Goth … Ein Track auf deinem Album heißt „Ixodes“, worum geht es da? How did the transformation from a rather noisy sound and dark topics to pop happen? Pop simply is a great means to reach more people than one can reach with noise and experimental music. You are frequently being compared to Siouxsie Sioux, does that bother you? I’ve always listened to a lot of elec-tronic music, 808 State or Aphex Twin, lots of break-core, too. And then people just come along and say that is Siouxsie And The Banshees or New Goth … One of the tracks on the album is called “Ixodes”, what is it about? I grew up in Wisconsin and whenever I went into the woods I had ticks. For me, this always was like a barrier between human beings and nature. Sie reiten die Synkopen, die Gitar-rensoli, die Disco-Beats, sie sind zu siebt und verbreiten wie nur wenige Bands gute Laune. Einmal quer durch den Atlantik segelten sie mit ihrem Publikum, tanzten Boogie, Discofox, Polka, Kwassa Kwassa und schüttelten ihre Köpfe, als hätten sie Haare zum Headban-gen. Das Badeschiff machte artig mit, als die beiden Frontbuben aus Island auf der Bühne und im Pub-likum ihre Tanzschritte vorführten, während die Hard-Rock-Gitarren sanft jaulten.

Wenn Hardcore-Kids beschließen, Folk mit schwerem Indie-Rock-Einschlag zu spielen, dann kann es passieren, dass die Begriffe Besinnlichkeit und absolute Ekstase einander nicht ausschlie-ßen, sondern vielmehr Hand in Hand gehen. Anders als auf einem der Bandfotos von Dry The River, einem dünnen Quintett aus England, gab es auf der Bühne keineswegs blutige Nasen zu sehen, dafür Schweiß, fliegende Haare und gegen Ende eines euphorischen Gigs – inklusive unverstärktem Zwischenspiel – zuckende Leiber. Die Waves Vienna Conference setzt sich zentral mit dem Thema des verbes-serten kulturellen Austauschs zwischen Ost und West auseinander. limits“. Wurde der Wiener Wein früher vor allem als „resches Tröpferl“ beim Heurigen geschätzt, so ist er heute auch als Qualitätswein in aller Munde. Er hat in den vergangenen Jahren einen grundle-genden Image-Wandel erfahren, die Wiener Winzer produzieren hervorragende Weine in Top-Qualität. Rund 700 Hektar Weingärten befinden sich inner-halb der Stadtgrenzen. Sie prägen das Stadtbild, stellen einen wesentlichen ökologischen Faktor dar und sind ein beliebtes Naherholungsgebiet für die Wiener und ihre Gäste. Wien ist vor allem ein Weißweingebiet, wobei Sorten wie Riesling, Weiß-burgunder, Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon blanc oder Gelber Muskateller ausgesprochen fruchtige und elegante Weine bringen. Zunehmend werden von den Wiener Winzern jedoch auch Rotweine – allen voran Zweigelt und St. Laurent aber auch trendige internationale Sorten wie Merlot, Cabernet Sauvi-gnon und Syrah – gekeltert. Die Stadt führt sogar ihr eigenes Weingut und das mit großem Erfolg: Die Weine vom Weingut Wien Cobenzl sind natio-nal und international prämiert. Einfach ausprobie-ren, einfach Prost!

Wien kürt die BestenJährlich kürt die Stadt Wien beim Wie-ner Weinpreis die feinsten Tropfen der Stadt. Auch heuer gab es zahlreiche Auszeichnungen. Während insgesamt 109 goldprämierte Weine, von Cuveé Rot bis zu Riesling, im Arkadenhof des Rathauses auf ihre Verkostung warteten, wurden die Landessieger in zwölf ausgewählten Kategorien von Sommeliers, Gastwirten und Journalis-ten gekürt.
