Welche Eigenschaften verbinden Sie mit dem Estrel Berlin?Das Estrel überzeugt durch seine Räume, einen hohen Standard von Küche und Technik sowie durch tolle Shows. Das Beste sind jedoch die Mitarbeiter, die aus unserer Konferenz mit 750 Personen aus über 20 Ländern „the best conference ever“ gemacht haben.

Was waren für Sie die entscheidenden Gründe mit einer Veranstaltung in das Estrel zu gehen?Ich kenne das Estrel seit 1995 und bin nicht nur von der Größe und der Multifunktionalität begeistert, son-dern vor allem von dem Engagement der Mitarbeiter. Sie alle leben das Estrel und sind in der Lage, Wünsche von den Augen abzulesen – noch bevor sie überhaupt entstehen.

Welche Vorhaben planen Sie weiter-hin mit dem Estrel?Wir werden im Herbst dieses Jahres wiederkommen und auch für 2015 planen wir wieder unsere Anwender-konferenz im Estrel Berlin.

What qualities do you associate with the Estrel Berlin?The Estrel‘s rooms, high culinary and technical standards and its spectacular shows are all very impressive. The best part of the Estrel, however, is its staff. Our recent conference was attended by 750 people from more than 20 countries, and the Estrel staff helped make it the best one we‘ve ever had.

What made you decide to hold your event in the Estrel?I‘ve been a guest of the Estrel since 1995, and have always been impressed by both its size and multi-functionality, and most of all, with the commitment of its staff. They live and breathe the Estrel philosophy, and seem to know your every wish, even before you do.

Will you be scheduling future events at the Estrel?We‘ll be back in the autumn of this year and are also planning to hold our 2015 User Conference at the Estrel Berlin.

Das Estrel Berlin soll mit dem Estrel Tower erweitert werden. Neben der geplanten Erweiterung der Hotel-nutzung um 814 Hotelzimmer ist auch der Bau weiterer Ausstellungs- und Eventhallen südlich der Sonnenallee geplant. Der Gewinnerentwurf wurde Ende Februar nach zwölfwöchiger Bearbeitungszeit im Rahmen eines städtebaulichen und hochbaulichen Realisierungswettbewerbs vorgestellt. Nach dem von einer neunköpfigen Fachjury prämierten Vorschlag, unter Vorsitz von Professor Zvonko Turkali, soll der Estrel Tower 175 Meter hoch und somit Berlins höchs-tes nicht-technisches Gebäude werden. Damit wäre

In addition to the construction of a new exhibition and event hall, the Estrel Berlin is expanding south of its location on Berlin’s Sonnenallee with the construc-tion of the Estrel Tower, which will house 814 hotel rooms. The winning design was presented late this past February following a twelve-week urban planning and architectural design competition. On the recom-mendation of a nine-member expert jury chaired by Professor Zvonko Turkali, the Estrel Tower will reach a height of 175 metres, making it Berlin’s tallest building used for a non-technical purpose. The tower will be roughly two-and-a-half times as high as the Estrel complex at present. Jury member and Berlin Senate Building Director Regula Lüscher believes that concepts like these are crucial for the development of the city. She explains, “Mr. Streletzki demonstrated great courage and entrepreneurial talent 20 years ago when he opened the Estrel Hotel. Now, he‘s made the excellent decision to hold a competition for the design of another landmark for both Berlin and the hotel, here where the inner and the outer city meet. The tower completes an ensemble already formed by the existing buildings, and provides a beautifully proportioned forecourt for the Sonnenallee as well as a spacious public promenade along the water. The construction of this elegant tower will create a composite reminiscent of some of Scharoun’s archi-tectural masterpieces in the city”.

In this way, the Estrel Tower will be a new architectural landmark in Berlin. Heinz Buschkowsky, mayor of Berlin’s Neukölln borough, saw the potential of an event complex like this in Neukölln early on. Mayor Buschkowsky explains, “Ekkehard Streletzki and the Estrel are intrinsically linked with Neukölln,

Ohne dieses wären die letzten 20 Jahre nicht so erfolgreich gewesen“, sagt Ekkehard Streletzki, Eigen-tümer des Estrel Berlin. „Wer künftig vom Hauptstadt-flughafen ins Zentrum fährt, wird unser Estrel als Tor zur Stadt erleben.“ So gebe die Weiterentwicklung des Estrel auch der Stadt ein weiteres architekto-nisches „Landmark“. Heinz Buschkowsky, Bezirksbür-germeister des Berliner Bezirks Neukölln, habe von Beginn an in Neukölln das Potenzial für einen solchen Veranstaltungskomplex gesehen. „Ekkehard Streletzki und das Estrel sind untrennbar mit Neukölln verbun-den. Sie sind der Garant für die positiven Signale Neuköllns in die Welt. 300.000 Übernachtungen pro Jahr und das topmodernste Kongresszentrum mit dem neuen Ausrufezeichen Berlins stehen dem Unter-nehmer Streletzki und Neukölln gut zu Gesicht. Lange hat er darum kämpfen müssen“, erklärt Buschkowsky.

Als Siegerentwurf kürte die Jury, in der neben Fachjuroren auch der Bauherr Ekkehard Streletzki sowie Vertreter des Senats und des Bezirksamtes saßen, das Konzept des deutsch-amerikanischen Architekturbüros „Barkow Leibinger“. Regine Leibinger und Frank Barkow haben mit ihrem Entwurf einen sehr eleganten Turm mit einer Glas-Metall-Fassade geschaffen, der mit seinem abge-schrägten Bereich die Spitze betont. Eine Skybar mit einer Außenterrasse in der obersten Etage soll zukünftig einen beeindruckenden Blick in Richtung City ermöglichen.

The jury that selected the winning design included a panel of architectural experts joined by Mr. Streletzki and representatives from the Berlin Senate and Neukölln’s district administrative offices. Winner of the competition was the German-American archi-tectural firm Barkow Leibinger. The design submit-ted by Regine Leibinger and Frank Barkow features a wonderfully elegant tower with a glass and metal facade that tapers up to highlight its tip. The upper-most floor will house a “Skybar” with an outdoor terrace offering a breathtaking view of the city.

Damit passen wir uns auch an den zunehmenden Flächenbedarf unserer Besucher aus aller Welt an“, erklärt Ekkehard Streletzki, Inhaber des Estrel Berlin. Durch den zusätzlichen Eventbereich

ist es zukünftig möglich, die Umbauphasen des bestehenden Convention Centers zu überbrücken und Veranstaltungen nahtlos anzubieten. Die zusätzlichen Flächen werden dem gestiegenen Platzbedarf von be-gleitenden Ausstellungen und Messen bei Kongressen künftig noch besser gerecht.

Zum neuen Kongress- und Messebereich gehören zwei Eventräume mit 1.124 und 4.566 Quadratmetern Fläche. Die säulenfreien Säle mit einer Deckenhöhe von 9 und 11 Metern sind multifunktional einsetzbar und groß genug für bis zu 900 bzw. bis zu 4.500 Personen. Durch

die direkte Verbindung zum bestehenden Estrel Convention Center können diese sowohl separat als auch in Kombination mit dem jetzigen Tagungsbereich, der insgesamt 70 Eventräume, für Messen, Kongresse, Galas und Medienevents umfasst, genutzt werden. Bei der Planung des Hallenneubaus wurde Wert auf größt-mögliche Energie effizienz gelegt. Der Neubau genügt deshalb hohen energetischen Standards, sowohl bei der Dämmung als auch bei der Wärme- und Kältetechnik. Das geplante Investitionsvolumen für den neuen Veranstaltungskomplex liegt bei ca. 25 Millionen Euro. Die Fertigstellung ist für Herbst 2015 geplant.

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON A NEW CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION CENTRE

The paperwork is done, and construction is ready to begin on the expansion of the Estrel‘s event complex along Ziegrastrasse 15-19 in Berlin. Built directly behind the existing Estrel Convention Center, Convention Hall II will house two event spaces with an overall capacity for 5,400 visitors. Occupying net floor space just short of 10,000 square metres, Convention Hall II will increase the Estrel Convention Center’s total event space capacity to 25,000 square metres.

Estrel Berlin owner Ekkehard Streletzki explains, “This new hall is part of our plan to further expand

our range of event services and strengthen our overall location. The new facility also represents our response to the increasing demand from visitors around the world for more space”. This additional event space enables the Estrel to continue hosting events without interruption even when resettings are underway in other parts of the Convention Center. During conventions and conferences, the new addition can better accom-modate exhibitions and trade fairs in their increasing need for space.

Convention Hall II will consist of two multifunctional event spaces covering 1,124 and 4,566 square metres,

respectively. Neither room has columns, and features 9- and 11-metre-high ceilings. The smaller space will hold up to 900 persons, while the larger space will have capacity for up to 4,500 guests. A direct connection will allow the new annex to be used separately or in conjunc-tion with the existing Estrel Convention Center and 70 event spaces for conventions, congresses, galas and media events. Energy efficiency is a top priority for the new building, and its construction meets the highest energy standards for insulation as well as heating and cooling technology. Plan-ned investment for the new event complex totals around 25 million euros, and construction is scheduled to finish in the Autumn of 2015.

The project was intro-duced in 2009 by the management of the Estrel in cooperation with Neukölln district office, headed by mayor Heinz Buschkowsky. Since then, 148 Estrel Berlin

trainees have interned at restaurant and hotel for multiple months. “During your training period at the Estrel Hotel, you‘re always able to closely observe your instructor, but you‘re not in charge of organising things yourself. At Schloss Britz, that‘s exactly what we ask of our trainees. Those who prove themselves here are well-prepared for their future professional life,“ says Annette Bramkamp, Head of Personnel.

Since 2009, the trainees have welcomed more than 1,500 overnight guests and 120,000 diners with enormous dedication, creativity and warmth. The staff‘s successful track record is certain to continue. For wedding parties, the Ochsenstall, a historic former ox stall, has proven very popular. This year alone, more than 50 bridal couples will say their vows at the venue.

Das Restaurant & Hotel Schloss Britz ist in vielerlei Hinsicht ein ganz besonderes Refugium: Sowohl die Gastronomie als auch die fünf Hotelzimmer werden ausschließlich von Auszubildenden bewirtschaftet. Aber eigentlich bemerkt niemand, dass die hoch-karätigen Menüs von jungen Nachwuchsköchen am Herd zubereitet und anschließend von angehenden Hotel- und Restaurantfachleuten serviert werden. Was daran liegt, dass die Auszubildenden rundum perfekte Arbeit leisten. Diesen März feierte das bun-desweit einzigartige Konzept seinen fünften Geburts-tag. Seit die Geschäftsleitung des Estrel gemeinsam mit dem Bezirksamt Neukölln, vertreten durch

den Bezirksbürgermeister Heinz Buschkowsky, 2009 das Projekt ins Leben gerufen hat, konnten 148 Azubis aus dem Estrel Hotel ihren Arbeitsplatz für mehrere Monate nach Britz verlegen, um dort das Restaurant und Hotel selbstständig zu betreuen. „Die Azubis sind die Zukunft unseres Unternehmens. Wir möchten sie

frühzeitig in verantwortungsvolle Positionen bringen und sie somit langfristig als Mitarbeiter für unser Haus gewinnen. Wer sich hier bewährt, ist fit für das zukünftige Berufsleben“, so Personaldirektorin Annette Bramkamp. Bisher haben die Auszubildenden mit viel Engagement, Kreativität und Herzlichkeit mehr als

1.500 Übernachtungsgäste und 120.000 Restaurant-besucher begrüßt. Und auch in Zukunft scheint sich die Erfolgsbilanz fortzusetzen. Vor allem bei Hoch-zeitspaaren steht der historische Ochsenstall hoch im Kurs, so dass allein in diesem Jahr über 50 Hochzeiten stattfinden werden.

Seit 16 Jahren gehört die Live-Show „Stars in Concert“ zu Berlin wie das Brandenburger Tor oder der Ku'damm. Denn auch 37 Jahre nach seinem Tod ist Elvis Presley noch immer unvergessen und es gibt wohl keinen, der so generationsübergreifend das Publikum begeistert. Nach der ausverkauften Deutschland-Tournee im Februar gastiert „Elvis – Das Musical“ vom 16. Juli bis 17. August wieder im Estrel. Das zweistündige Musical ist eine Zeitreise durch Elvis‘ Leben, dessen Karriere mit Gospel und Blues begann und ihren Höhepunkt im Rock‘n‘Roll fand. Verkörpert wird der King vom derzeit überzeu-gendsten Elvis-Darsteller Grahame Patrick, der laut Weggefährten des echten Elvis Presley „der beste Elvis seit Elvis” ist. Als besonderes Show-Highlight konnte das „Stamps Quartet" verpflichtet werden, die origi-nale Gospelband von Elvis Presley! Im Anschluss kann man im Estrel die musikalische Zeitreise weiter fortset-zen, wenn Showproduzent Bernhard Kurz vom 20. August bis 7. September die international erfolgreiche ABBA Story „Thank you for the music“ auf die Bühne des Estrel zurückholt. Exakt 40 Jahre ist es her, dass die schwedische Band ihren internationalen Durch-bruch beim Grand Prix Euro vision de la Chanson 1974 feierte. In dem Show-Ereignis werden sämtliche Hits von einem Quartett präsentiert, das ABBA nicht nur optisch verblüffend ähnlich sieht, sondern auch gesanglich ganz mit ihren Vorbildern übereinstimmt.

Over the past 16 years the “Stars in Concert” series of live tribute shows has become as much a part of Berlin as the Brandenburg Gate or the Ku'damm shopping promenade. To date, more than four million spectators have plunged into a world of make-believe to applaud the Estrel’s “Stars in Concert” artists. The musical collage is a “vision of the perfect illusion” where you‘re liable to forget that you’re not seeing the original artist. The series continues with alternating tributes to Bette Midler, Joe Cocker, Madonna, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Cher, the Soul Brothers and Marilyn

Monroe until the season wraps up in mid-July. The acts are accompanied by dazzling extras including amazing live bands and stunning female dancers. During “Stars in Concert‘s” summer hiatus, the magic remains unstoppable at the Estrel Festival Center with great shows dedicated to pop music legends Elvis Presley and ABBA. Although it‘s been 37 years since his death, “The King” continues to appeal to fans of all ages as much as ever. After its triumphant sold-out tour of Germany in February, the two-hour extravaganza “Elvis – The Musical” returns to its home venue at the Estrel from 16 July to 17 August. Prepare for a journey through Elvis‘s life, starting with his humble gospel and blues roots and culminating

in his legendary rock'n‘roll career. The King is pla-yed by Grahame Patrick, today’s most true-to-life Elvis impersonator, who friends of the late Elvis Presley have cited as “the best Elvis since Elvis”. To create an experience that is as authentic as can be, Grahame performs side-by-side with the Stamps Quartet, Elvis’s original backing vocal group! Once “Elvis has left the building” in mid-August, “Thank you for the music”, the international smash-hit tribute to ABBA from producer Bernhard Kurz, will dominate the Estrel spotlight from 20 August to 7 September. It’s been exactly 40 years since this Swedish sensation celebrated its breakthrough at the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. Now, the ABBA show brings you all the group’s hits from a quartet whose look and vocal sound will make you ask yourself whether it‘s really them.
