INTRODUCTION

Founded in 1938 by Dr. K. M. Munshi, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is an

intellectual, cultural and educational movement dedicated to the twin tasks of

interpreting the age old yet ageless message of our country and of

integrating our varied and vibrant culture with the changing needs of the present

day world.

During the eight decades of its existence, the Bhavan has come to be

recognized as a symbol of India’s glorious past and as a comprehensive national

institution with an international outlook touching all facets of life and enriching all

spheres of activity.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan conducts classes from Kindergarten to

Post-graduate research level and imparts education in subjects ranging from

Carnatic Music to Computers, from Sanskrit to Business Management and from

Yoga to Journalism. This is being accomplished through its centres spread all over

the country and abroad, its constituent institutions which today number over 120,

its various publications, cultural and educational programmes it conducts from

time to time and above all personal discussion and dialogue.

Situated in an extensive plot of scenic beauty behind the Hill Palace -Archaeological Museum in Tripunithura Municipality, this school of BharatiyaVidya Bhavan was established in 2001. The school has classes from I to XII witha student strength over 1650.

SCHOOL WORKING HOURS:Std. I to V 7.45 a.m. to 1.25 p.m.Std. VI to XII 7.45 a.m. to 2.50 p.m.Lunch Break 11.35 a.m. to 12.05 p.m.

SCHOOL UNIFORMBoys I to X : Light blue shirts with half sleeves and one pocket.Navy blue shorts with side pockets and loops at the side for theschool belt. Students upto standard VI should wear shorts only.Students from Std. VII upwards who are above 150 cm shouldwear trousers. The cloth badge should be stitched on to theleft pocket of the shirt. (See diagram-1)

Boys XI & XII : Navy blue trousers with loops at the side forthe school belt. Light blue shirts with two Navy blue broadstripes 1.5 cms away from the front edge of the left collar. Thecloth badge should be stitched on to the left pocket of the shirt.(See diagram-2)

Note : Low waist & tight trousers are not allowed. Only formaltrousers with pleats are permitted. Boys of higher classes tocome with clean shaven faces, hair cut short and neatly combed.

Girls I to X : Light blue shirt with half sleeves and shirt collar.

Girls I to V : Navy blue pleated pinafore of knee length withloops at the side for the school belt. (Pleats size 5 cms.) Thecloth badge should be stitched on the left hand side, just belowthe shoulder strap of the pinafore. (See diagram-3)

Girls VI to X : Box pleated pinafore reaching 5 cms below theknee. The cloth badge should be stitched on the left hand side,just below the shoulder strap of the pinafore. (See diagram-4)

Girls XI & XII : Navy blue salwar, light blue kameez with um-brella-cut (no slits) and navy blue dupatta. The cloth badge shouldbe stitched on the dupatta (see diagram-5). The sleeve must beof elbow length. The neck of the kameez must be round in shape,5.5 cms in depth in front and at the back.Belt : Will be available in the school store.

FOOTWEARStd. I to XII : Bata Scout/Super stride Bata shoes (Black) and navy blue socks. (Boys) No other type of footwear will be permitted.Std. The uniform cloth should be of the prescribed shade and is available at concessionalrate at M/s. Kalyan Silks, Ernakulam. The uniform should be according to theprescribed pattern. Uniform of Std. I can be stitched at the tailoring unit run byBharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mahila Vibhag, Gandhinagar, Kochi - 20. Other classesalso can get the uniform stitched from Mahila Vibhag.

DRESS CODEStudents should be in full uniform with polished shoes and neatly ironed dress.

During rainy season, all students shall use black Sandak. No other type of footwearshall be permitted.

Boys must cut their hair short and girls must come to school with neatlygroomed hair on all days. Colouring of hair is prohibited. Boys of higher classesshould come with clean shaven faces.

Parents are requested to see that students strictly adhere to these stipulations.Students who do not come in the prescribed school uniform shall not be allowedto attend classes.

Learning Materials for Std. AFFILIATIONThe school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTIONThe medium of instruction is English. Hindi is compulsory from Std. I to Std. VIII.

Malayalam or Sanskrit can be taken as third language from Std. II to Std. VIII.Malayalam, Hindi or Sanskrit can be opted for as second language for Std. IX and Std. X.

However, those who have not opted for Malayalam, will be taught Malayalamas per the State Government’s directives from Std. I to Std. X.

ATTENDANCENo student who has less than 75% attendance to his/her credit in a particular

academic year shall be considered for promotion. Unauthorized absence for aperiod of 15 days and above will result in removal of the pupil’s name from therolls without any intimation to the parent. Long absence may be condoned at thediscretion of the School Committee. Attendance of the student for all the Tests /Assessments is mandatory.

THE SCHOOL ASSEMBLYThe morning session begins with the assembly in which all the students and

staff members are expected to join. After the prayer, taking the pledge and shortspeeches by students or members of the staff, the regular classes for the day willstart. During the school assembly students have to observe proper decorum andsolemnity befitting the occasion.

RESOURCE ROOM & SCHOOL COUNSELLORThe school has a trained counsellor and a resource room with trained staff to

cater to the needs of children identified with learning disorder.

LIBRARYWe have good library books consisting of titles in all subjects as also for

general reading to inculcate the reading habit in students. English and Malayalamdailies and good magazines are also provided. Library books must be handledwith care. Any damage will result in recovering half the cost of the book. A fine ofRs. 2/- per week will be levied if the book is not returned on the due date.

GREEN RULESCreation of environmental awareness among all sections of our society,

particularly school students, is of paramount importance. As today’s children arethe citizens of tomorrow, there is a great need to inculcate in them values ofrespect, love and concern for Nature . To encourage the same, a list of Green Rulesis mentioned below which needs to be followed with care and concern.

✦ Do not litter the ground. Use dustbins.✦ Minimize the use of polythene bags. Do not throw them in public places. Use

paper bags, cloth bags or jute bags. These are environment friendly.✦ Do not pluck leaves or flowers.✦ Plants make the environment beautiful. Keep your environment clean and green.✦ Do not waste energy. Switch off electric equipment and close taps when not

in use. This helps to conserve scarce resources of electricity and water.✦ Use paper wisely and judiciously.✦ Imbibe healthy habits and a lifestyle of minimum waste generation, reduce

pollution and conserve the environment.✦ Do not cover the walls and desks with graffiti. This is our own school, keep

it clean.

HOUSE SYSTEMHouse System is service-cum training in organization. Its aims are:i) To promote the welfare of the students.ii) To promote better student-teacher relationship.iii) To impart citizenship training.iv) To encourage self-discipline.v) To teach skill management and leadership.

Each house is headed by a house captain. Co-curricular activites are organisedwith the guidance of house teachers. A healthy and keen spirit of competition isnurtured. The house captains perform the following duties in rotation:1. Management of the morning assembly.2. Maintenance of order during recess, dispersal.3. Looking after general cleanliness.4. Checking of School-Uniforms.5. Arranging house competitions in sports, arts and cultural activities.

GENERAL SCHOOL RULESAll parents are requested to note the following:

1. The school expects your co-operation to ensure that children attend theschool regularly and punctually.No student should absent himself/herself from normal classes without a validreason. Prior permission should be obtained for all absences, barring cases ofsudden illness. Staying away from classes for self study before examinations is notallowed unless study leave is officially announced by the school.

2. Politeness and courtesy of speech and good conduct are expected from the pupil.3. All students should be dressed neatly.4. Costly and fancy ornaments / items should not be worn/brought. Applying

nail polish is not permitted.5. Girls must come to school with neatly groomed hair on all days.6. Boys are not allowed to grow their hair long or get it spiked with gel. Only

normal hair cut is allowed.7. Students should bring all their books and other materials required for the day.

They should be responsible for the safe custody of their books and belongings.

8. Home exercises should be submitted regularly.9. Habitual negligence in school work, dishonesty or other acts of misconduct

on the part of students will entail severe disciplinary action.10. Inattentiveness, indifference towards any subject, discourtesy towards any

member of the staff or any such act which affects the discipline or peacefulatmosphere of the school will be viewed seriously.

11. Whitener should not be brought to school.12. Every student must bring the school diary to the class daily. It should not be

used as a rough book. Pages therein should not be torn. Parents shouldregularly check the student’s school diary.

13. Students suffering from any contagious or infectious disease will not be allowedto attend the school.

14. Students should only bring vegetarian food to school. Non-vegetarian food isstrictly forbidden on the school premises. Students should not bring fork,knife and glass bottles to school.

15. The school property is your own. Any damage done to it or to that of otherstudents will have to be made good by the erring students.

16. The school premises should be kept neat and tidy.17. Students of one class are not allowed to enter any other classes during intervals.18. Parents are requested not to give extra money to the students.19. Students are not permitted to bring mobile phones, CDs, cameras or pen

drives to the school. They are also not permitted to come to school driving/riding vehicles except bicycles. Students up to Std. V are not permitted tocome to school on bicycles.

20. Bullying is strictly prohibited in the school and no such act will go unattendedor unpunished.

Principal – Visiting hours 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.21. Parents desirous of meeting the teachers may do so by prior appointment

through the Principal.22. Withdrawal of children from classes during the school hours is not permitted.

Parents who want to take children to hospital etc. are advised not to sendthem to school for a session or half day as the case may be but to send a leavenote. Parents may enter the particulars of leave required in the pages providedin the school diary.

23. Please note that the option for FINE ARTS shall be made according to theaptitude of the students and facility available. Request for subsequent changesduring the academic year will not be entertained.

24. Periodic tests, Note book submission, Subject enrichment, Half yearlyexamination and Yearly examination is taken as a whole for classes upto Std.VIII. Periodic tests, Note book submission, Subject enrichment and Yearlyexamination is taken as whole for Std. IX. It is therefore very essential thatstudents appear in all tests/examinations. It is extremely important thatstudents start working earnestly from the beginning of the academic year.

25. At the time of leaving school every student is expected to enroll himself/herself as a Life Member of the Alumni Association by paying Rs. 100/-
