• CE finance généralement les coûts de coordination (+ éventuellement top-up sur le financement des projets)

• Chaque programme national finance les partenaires de son pays

• Avantages:

– Possibilité de monter des projets internationaux avec un consortium de petite taille. Souvent 2 ou 3 partenaires suffisent.

– Taux de succès plus grand: de 20% à 50%!

– En général, full proposals relativement courtes.

– Reporting financier (éligibilité des coûts) et technique connu (DGO6). Contact facilité avec le gestionnaire administratif.

• Inconvénients

– Géométrie variable:

• Les critères d’éligibilité varient d’un programme à l’autre

• Couverture géographique variable et parfois assez faible

– Programmes parfois « éphémères »

Era-HDHL: Aims of the call

This call focuses on the identification and validation of biomarkers that are modulated

by diet and that indicate a change in health status and/or the risk of developing diet-

related diseases. Biomarkers of physical activity may be considered alongside diet.

Studies focusing on disease biomarkers are outside the scope of the call.

Biomarkers : “characteristics that are objectively measured and evaluated as indicators of

an exposure, biological process, or state of a biological system”

Era-HDHL: Aims of the call

The proposals have to fulfil the following conditions:

• Proposals can aim to identify new biomarkers, or build upon previous identification studies through necessary validation.

• Proposals which focus on identification of new biomarkers should demonstrate the relevance of the biomarker to human health and should carefully consider approaches for validation.

• Proposals should 1) make use of existing biobanks and/or cohorts or 2) explain why no existing biobank or cohort is used.

• Proposals should explain how the data gathered through their project would be available to the wider research community.

• Proposals should avoid overlap with the aims and objectives of FOODBALL and MIRDIET.

Era-HDHL: Aims of the call

Proposals are encouraged:

• to focus on whole diets instead of single dietary components

• to consider the possible impact of age, gender, and socio-economic status where appropriate

• to collaborate with the private sector including industrial partners (cf. particularité DGO6)

• to include training of young scientists

The JPI HDHL aims to create an International Research Network on Biomarkers in Nutrition on Health (BioNH), it is therefore expected that funded project will be actively involved in relevant activities under the umbrella of the JPI HDHL (including workshops, conference, presentation at the Management Board of the JPI HDHL etc.).

a. Scientific quality of the proposal:

- Clarity of objectives

- Credibility of the proposed approach and methodology

- Expected progress beyond the state-of-the-art, innovation

- Competence and experience of participating research partners in the field(s) of the proposal

b. Relevance of the project regarding the topic and objectives of the call.

c. Novelty of proposed research.

2) Impact ( /5 )

a. Potential of the expected results for future public health, other socio economic health relevant applications and/or for industry (i.e. food development and optimization of food products).

b. Added-value of transnational collaboration: gathering a critical mass of biological material, sharing of resources (models, databases, etc.), harmonization of data, sharing of specific know-how and/or innovative technologies, etc.

c. Potential for fostering a longer term international network of researchers in the area of BioNH.

d. Effectiveness of the proposed measures to exploit and disseminate the project results (including management of IPR), to communicate the project, and to manage research data where relevant

e. Participation/engagement with industry (when appropriate/applicable)

f. Possible impact of age, gender and socio-economic status (when appropriate/applicable)

g. Education and training of young scientists (when appropriate/applicable).

Sub-criteria 2d, 2e, 2f, 2g, will be taken into account only for the full proposal evaluation step.

3) Quality and efficiency of the implementation ( /5)

a. Coherence and effectiveness of the work plan (for full proposals: including appropriateness of the allocation of tasks, resources and time-frame)

b. Complementarity of the participants in the consortium

c. Appropriateness of the management structures and procedures, including risk and innovation management

d. Sustainability of research infrastructures initiated by the project (e.g. FAIR1 data management.)

e. Budget and cost-effectiveness of the project (appropriate distribution of resources in relation to project activities, partners responsibilities and time frame)

Sub-criteria 3c, 3d and 3e will be taken into account only for the full proposal evaluation step.

Eligibilité dépend de chaque agence nationale / régionale

1. Enregistrement coordinateur et principaux investigateurs sur Meta Data Base of JPI HDHL

2. Soumission pré-proposition par le coordinateur (5-10 pages, cf. template)

• Modifications acceptées seulement dans des circonstances exceptionnelles !

• Exception pour l’ajout de partenaires de pays sous-représentés (justification reste nécessaire)

3. Soumission proposition par le coordinateur (20-25 pages cf. template)

4. Soumission formulaire DGO6 pour les acteurs wallons (25 pages cf. template)

5. Un accord de consortium doit être signé avant le début du projet

6. Reporting annuel par le coordinateur

Chaque agence assure le suivi des acteurs qu’elle finance

Critères d’éligibilité au financement de la DGO6

• Répondre aux conditions du décret du 3 juillet 2008, dont:

• l’entreprise doit faire preuve d’une situation financière saine

• le projet ne peut pas faire l’objet d’un double financement

• la durée d'un projet ne peut dépasser 3 ans

• Les partenaires industriels wallons doivent bénéficier au minimum de 40% du

budget recherche de l’ensemble des partenaires wallons

• Le projet doit contribuer à l’économie régionale

• Un formulaire de demande de financement DGO6 doit être soumis (full proposal)

Recherche Industrielle (~TRL 3 à 5)

Au sens du présent décret, on entend par recherche industrielle la recherche planifiée ou des enquêtes critiques visant à acquérir de nouvelles connaissances et aptitudes en vue de mettre au point de nouveaux produits, procédés ou services, ou d’entraîner une amélioration notable de produits, procédés ou services existants.

Elle comprend la création de composants de systèmes complexes, nécessaire à la recherche industrielle, notamment pour la validation de technologies génériques.

Elle exclut cependant la création de prototypes et de projets pilotes commercialement exploitables, lorsque le prototype est nécessairement le produit fini commercial et lorsqu’il est trop onéreux à produire pour être utilisé uniquement à des fins de démonstration et de validation (cette dernière activité relève du développement expérimental)
