RDAisapragmaticandagileorganization,andthroughtheworkofitsWorkingandInterestGroups,directlyandlogicallytackles

numerousdatainfrastructurechallenges.

WorkingGroups&InterestGroups:what'sthedifference?

InterestGroupsInterestgroupsareopen-endedintermsoflongevity.Theyfocusonsolvingaspecificdatasharingproblemandidentifyingwhatkindofinfrastructureneedstobebuilt.InterestGroupscanidentifyspecificpiecesofworkandstartupaWorkingGrouptotacklethose.

WorkingGroupsWorkingGroupsareshort-term(18months)andcometogethertodevelopandimplementdatainfrastructure,whichcouldbetools,policy,practicesandproductsthatareadoptedandusedbyprojects,organizations,andcommunities.Embeddedwithinthesegroupsareindividualswhowillusetheinfrastructureandhelpinmakingitbroadlyavailabletothepublic.

•  Findable: metadata are key: generate, collect, expose

•  => metadata repositories (CKAN)

•  Accessible: often expected via link/http (unconditioned or conditioned)

•  => object store/S3

•  Interoperable: standard formats and conventions; eventually Data Typing/Registries?

•  => consult on the new concepts; operate a DTR at some point?

•  Reusable: for large data sets “bringing compute to data”

•  => HPC Cloud or cloud computing in general

=> partially opening up the infrastructure => evolve Identity and Access Management
