Die Tragflächen des Flugzeugs werdenkomplett mit Solarzellen bestückt, wodurchseine Spannweite von 80 Meter die Größeeines A380 erreicht (31,6 cm am Modell) – und das bei einem Gesamtgewicht vonunter zwei Tonnen.

Die Erstpräsentation des Prototyps diesesehrgeizigen Projekts mit der Kennung HB-SIA ist für Ende Juni 2009 geplant.

Around the world on zero fuel

Around the world in 20 days with an air-plane powered by solar energy alone.

The goal of the two Swiss entrepreneursBetrand Piccard and André Borschberg isnot simply another world record, but to winover the public for renewable energyresources, and to promote solar cell, ener-gy management and reservoir technology.

The airplane’s wings will be covered com-pletely with solar cells. Yet spanning 80meters, they will match those of an AirbusA380 (31,6 cm on the model) – with a totaltake-off weight below two tons.

The first presentation of the prototype for this ambitious project with the registrationHB-SIA is scheduled for the end of June,2009.
