IN APPRECIATIONKay Copelin French is an invaluable advocate of World Senior Golf and a treasured friend. She carries on the legacy of her late husband, Adrian J. French, and she and her family present the Adrian J. French trophy to the 70 & Over Medalist each year. Her generous support insures that the tournament can keep the entry fee affordable while providing memorable activities for all attendees and exceptional functions for the ladies. Her attendance and that of members of her family at the tournament is something to look forward to each year. It is evident that all countries that attend have become her friends and she has become theirs. This year, Panama presented her with a token of their appreciation as words alone cannot express everyone’s appreciation for her continued sponsorship and friendship.

Thirteen countries attended and eleven teams participated in the 56th Annual World Senior International Team Tournament. Jersey Channel Islands posted a team net 36-hole score of 432 to win the coveted Francis H.I. Brown Trophy. In addition to a token award for each team member, a replica of the trophy is awarded to the captain to take home to the country’s association. The Japanese trophy for the team runners-up was awarded to the team from England with a score of 436.

Awarded each year to the team with the low net score in the International Team matches, the trophy is named for its donor, the late Francis H.I. Brown. A founder of the World Senior Golf Federation, Brown served as its chairman as well as chairman of the International Team matches.

The team from Japan won the William Thayer Tutt Trophy for their low gross score of 475 in the tournament. Shown from left to right are: Shoichi Satoh, Yukihiro Nakamura, presenter, Steve Reid, President, World Senior Golf Federation, Captain Matsuo Aoki, Yoshi Asai, and Fukujiro Nagao.

The William Thayer Tutt Trophy, which is awarded each year during the International Team Tournament to the team with the low gross score for 36 holes, was presented to the team from Japan for a score of 475. Runner-up honors and the Brazil Trophy went to the team from Panama with a score of 479. Each country has the ability to have two teams compete… one in the gross division and one in the net division. Country captains must declare the team members and who is competing for gross and/or for net. If there are 4 team members, the lowest 3 scores of the 4 are used to compute the team score. In addition to a token award for each team member, a replica of the trophy is awarded to the captain to take home to the country’s association. These two days of stroke play also serve as qualifying for the Maytag Championship flight.

Awarded to the team with the low gross score in the International Team Matches, the trophy is a gift to the Federation from Adrian J. French, Chairman Emeritus, World Senior Golf Federation. It was named for the late William Thayer Tutt, co-founder and President Emeritus of the World Senior Golf Federation.
