Vorwort
Unter der Rubrik Betontechnische Berichte verffentlicht das
Forschungsinstitut der Zementindustrie (FIZ) seit
1960technisch-wissenschaftliche Beitrge in der Fachzeitschrift
Beton. Diese Fachverffentlichungen zu Fragen der An-we ndung von
Zement und Beto n gehren zu den sa tzungs ge m en Aufgab en des
Vereins Deutsc her Zementw erke(VDZ) und d es von ihm g etrag enen
Forsc hungsinstituts. S ie ha ben zum Zw eck, Tec hnik und Wiss
ensc haft a uf demG eb iet de r Herste llung und Anw end ung von
hyd raulisc hen B inde mitteln durch Verffentlichung g es iche rter
Erge bniss eaus der Forschung und a us d er brige n w iss ensc
haftlichen T tigkeit zu frdern. In de n B erichten d es vorlieg
ende n28. Sammelbands werden die Ergebnisse umfangreicher
Untersuchungen mitgeteilt, die berwiegend durch Arbeitenim Forsc
hungsinstitut de r Zementindustrie, te ilwe ise a uch in and eren
Forsc hungse inrichtunge n g ew onnen w urden. Vonden insgesamt
dreizehn Beitrgen sind vier bei der Erstverffentlichung auerhalb
der Reihe der BetontechnischenBe richte , einige d a von auch in
anderen Fachze itsc hriften ersc hienen. S m tliche B eitrge sind
zw eispra chig in Deutschund Englisc h ab ge druckt, wod urch ein
verbes se rter Kenntnistrans fer in die internationa le Fa chw elt
a nges treb t w ird.
Die europische Normung verfolgt mit der Standardisierung
technischer Regeln nicht nur die traditionell mit Normen
verknpften Ziele, s onde rn sie so ll auch d ie Vorauss etzunge
n s cha ffen fr das Inverkehrbringen von B auprodukten a ufdem
europischen Binnenmarkt. Anhand der Erarbeitung der harmonisierten
europischen Zementnorm wird diesnher erlutert. Die Entwicklung und
Herstellung leistungsfhiger Portlandkompositzemente gehrt zu den
Schwer-punkten d er Arbeiten im Forsc hungsinstitut. Die in
umfangreichen Zula ss ungsp rfunge n a n P ortla
ndkalksteinzementengewonnenen Ergebnisse wurden erstmals zu einer
das Festigkeitsbildungsvermgen und die
Dauerhaftigkeitsaspekteumfass ende n Da rstellung zus a mmenge fas
st. Eine d er G rundlage n fr die Weiterentw icklung von Zeme nten
lieg t in dervertieften Kenntnis der d urch G ranulometrie und Rea
ktivitt der Zementha uptbes tand teile b edingten Einflss e a uf
dieLeistungsmerkmale der Zemente; ber entsprechende Untersuchungen
wird berichtet. In einem weiteren Beitragwurden grundlegende
betontechnologische Zusammenhnge dargestellt, die bei
selbstverdichtenden Betonen zubea chten s ind. Durch breit ang
elegte Untersuchungen zu d en Inhaltssto ffen von Restw as se r
konnten die Mglichkeitenfr da s Frisc hbeto nrecyc ling erweitert w
erden. Zur Vermeidung von temp eratur- und s chw indb edingten Riss
en in flc hi-gen, verformungsbehinderten Bauteilen wurden
umfangreiche Laboruntersuchungen durchgefhrt und Auswertungenan
Bauwerken vorgenommen, ber die ebenfalls hier berichtet wird. ber
den Kenntnisstand zum kritischen, korro-
sionsauslsenden Chloridgehalt enthlt dieser Sammelband eine
Zusammenfassung. Der Nachweis einer ausreichen-den
Frostbestndigkeit von Beton beruht weiterhin auf aussagekrftigen
Laborprfverfahren. In einem umfangreicheneuropischen Ringversuch
wurden die heute angewandten Prfverfahren einer kritischen Prfung
unterzogen. Durchwe chs elnde Durchfeuchtungs- und Troc knungs zust
nde w erden S chw ind- und Quellvorg nge im Straenb eton
her-vorgerufen, die zu Oberflchenrissen fhren knnen.
Unterschiedliche Zemente ben auf diese Vorgnge bei blichzusa mmeng
es etzten S traenbetone n keinen praxisrelevante n Einfluss a us.

toffen und P oly-meren nachgewiesen werden; ein baupraktischer
Nachweis konnte bislang noch nicht erbracht werden. Die
Bewertungder Auswirkungen von Baustoffen auf die Gesundheit und auf
die unmittelbare Umwelt der daraus errichteten Bau-we rke b eda rf
noch intensiver konzeptioneller Vorarbeiten und w iss ensc
haftlicher Untersuchunge n. In zwei Be itr ge nwird ber
entsprechende berlegungen und Untersuchungen berichtet.
Die Reihe der Sa mmelbnd e d er B etontec hnisc hen Be richte ,
die nunmehr einen Zeitra um von vier J a hrzehnten ber-spa nnen,
bildet ein Nachs chlage w erk ber nahez u alle B ereiche d er Beto
ntechnologie und de r Betontec hnik mit ihrenEntwicklungen. Das
alle Bnde umfassende Sachverzeichnis ermglicht einen raschen
Zugriff auf den breiten Fundusan Fachaussagen mit konkreten
Hinweisen fr das praktische Handeln und den Erluterungen der
Zusammenhnge.Da nk g eb hrt a llen Autoren und Mita rbeitern im

Since 1960 the Research Institute of the Cement Industry (FIZ)
has been publishing technical and scientific articles inthe s pec
ia list journal B eton under the hea ding C oncrete Techno log y
Repo rts . These spe cialist p ublica tions onq uestions of the a
pplica tion of ce ment a nd c oncrete form part of the s tatutory
functions of the G erman C ement WorksAss oc ia tion (VDZ) a nd its
Res ea rch Inst itute. The a im is to p romote te chno log y a nd s
cienc e in the field of produc tiona nd a pplica tion of hydraulic
b inde rs by pub lishing c onfirmed res ults from res ea rch a nd o
ther sc ientific a ctivities. Thereports in this 28th volume g ive
the results of e xtensive investiga tions which w ere ob ta ined
predo minantly through w orkat the Research Institute of the Cement
Industry, but in some cases also at other research establishments.
Of the totalof thirteen articles four were first published outside
the se ries of Co ncrete Tec hnolog y Repo rts , a nd s ome of
thema ppe a red in othe r technica l journa ls. The a rticles a re
a ll printed in bo th G erma n an d Eng lish w ith the a im of
improvingthe interchang e o f know ledg e w ith the international
technical wo rld.
B y s tand a rdizing technical regula tions Europea n s ta nda
rdization is not o nly follow ing the trad itiona l objectives
linkedw ith sta nda rds but a lso a ims to create the ba sic
requirements for introd ucing b uilding products into the internal
Euro-
pea n ma rket. This is expla ined in de tail using the exa mple
of the c ompila tion o f the ha rmonized Europea n ce mentsta nda
rd. The de velopment a nd production of efficient Po rtla nd c
ompos ite ce ments is one of the foca l points o f thew ork at the
Res ea rch Institute. The results obta ined in extensive ac cep
tanc e tes ts on P ortla nd limes tone ce ments ha vebeen combined
for the first time to produce a comprehensive picture of the
strength forming ability and durabilityas pects of these c ements.
The continued development of ce ments is ba sed partly on the
increas ed knowledge of thefactors affecting the performance of the
cements due to the granulometry and reactivity of the main cement
constituents;a report is given of the corresponding investigations.
Another article describes the fundamental concrete
technologyrelationships w hich a re to b e found w ith self-co mpa
cting co ncretes. Through b roa dly ba se d inves tiga tions into
thesub sta nces co ntained in recyc led w a ter it has bee n poss
ible to extend the o ptions for recyc ling fres h conc rete.
Thereis also a report on the extensive laboratory investigations
carried out, and evaluations undertaken on structures, inorder to a
void crac ks ca used by temperature a nd s hrinka ge in flat comp
onents with restricted movement. This volumecontains a summary of
the current understanding of the critical chloride level at which
corrosion is initiated. Proof ofa deq uate freeze-thaw resistanc e
of concrete continues to be b a sed on mea ningful la borato ry
test methods . The test
methods currently used were submitted to critical testing in an
extensive European inter-laboratory trial. Shrinkage andswelling
processes, which can lead to surface cracks, were induced in
road-building concrete by alternating wettingand drying conditions.
In road concretes of normal composition these processes are not
influenced to any relevantextent by different types of cement.
Draining concrete on traffic surfaces contributes significantly to
the abatement oftraffic noise. Adequate durability of this
open-pore concrete under stresses from traffic, temperature and
freeze-thawcan only be demonstrated in the laboratory using
ultrafines and polymers, and it has not yet been possible to
provideproof under practical conditions. Evaluation of the effects
of building materials on health and on the immediateenvironment of
the structures built from them still requires intensive conceptual
preliminary work and scientific investiga-tions. Releva nt cons

work covering virtually all areas of concrete technology and
concrete engineering and their developments.The s ubject-ma tter

spe cific a dvice for prac tica l matters, and explana tions of
