Wir blicken auf ein erfreuliches erstes Semester 2010 zurück – gegenüber dem Vorjahr

ist vor allem ein erneuter Aufschwung in der Photovoltaik-Industrie deutlich spürbar.

Die beobachtete Steigerung der Nachfrage lässt mich zuversichtlich in die nahe

Zukunft blicken. Die Prognosen für die kommenden Monate deuten auf ein Umsatz-

wachstum in allen fünf Produktgruppen hin. Es sind jedoch auch zunehmende Sorgen

hinsichtlich der komplexen wirtschaftspolitischen Lage feststellbar. Die finanzielle

Verfassung einzelner Länder und deren denkbare Auswirkungen auf die Finanz- und

Devisenmärkte sowie auf die doch noch etwas fragile Nachfrage generieren nach wie

vor berechtigte Unsicherheiten.

Langfristiger Unternehmenserfolg erfordert in erster Linie gut ausgebildete, qualifi-

zierte Mitarbeiter. Es liegt daher in unserer langen Firmentradition, kontinuierliche

Nachwuchsarbeit zu leisten und unser Wissen weiter zu geben. Indem wir Ausbil-

dungsmöglichkeiten bieten, lassen wir die jüngeren Generationen an unserem Erfolg

teilhaben und bauen gleichzeitig den eigenen Nachwuchs auf – die zukünftigen

Leistungsträger und Garanten für anhaltenden Erfolg. Wir arbeiten miteinander und

füreinander.

Darüber hinaus investiert Multi-Contact auch immer wieder in topmoderne Arbeits-

mittel. Diese verbessern die Arbeitsbedingungen für unsere Mitarbeiter und steigern

vor allem auch die Effizienz zu Gunsten unserer geschätzten Kunden und Lieferanten,

z.B. im Bereich der Produktentwicklung durch Verbesserung und Beschleunigung des

Entwicklungsprozesses.

Wenn ich die aktuelle Ausgabe des plugin betrachte, freut es mich ausserordentlich,

dass wir bei Multi-Contact mit unserer täglichen Arbeit einen Beitrag zum „Miteinan-

der und Füreinander“ in der Welt leisten – durch intensive Ausbildungsförderung an

verschiedenen Standorten, durch persönliches Engagement und Initiative einzelner

Mitarbeiter sowie durch die Mitwirkung an Hilfsprojekten, die den Schwächeren dieser

Erde die Hand reichen. Auf diese Weise gelangen wir „gemeinsam zu neuen Ufern“

und steuern weiter in Richtung einer vielversprechenden, erfolgreichen Zukunft.

Chèreslectrices,cherslecteurs,Nous clôturons un premier semestre 2010 réjouissant: par rapport à l’année dernière,

un rebond est nettement perceptible dans l’industrie du photovoltaïque.

L’augmentation observée de la demande me permet d’être confiant pour l’avenir

proche. Les prévisions pour les mois à venir font entrevoir une croissance du chiffre

d’affaires dans les cinq groupes de produits. Il existe cependant aussi des inquiétudes

croissantes en ce qui concerne la conjoncture économique. La situation financière de

certains pays et ses répercussions probables sur les marchés financiers et le marché

des changes, ainsi que la demande malgré tout encore fragile, génèrent toujours de

légitimes incertitudes.

Le succès à long terme d’une entreprise exige en premier lieu des collaborateurs quali-

fiés et bien formés. Il est donc inhérent à notre longue tradition d’entreprise de former

continuellement la nouvelle génération et de transmettre notre savoir. En offrant

des possibilités de formation, nous faisons participer les jeunes générations à notre

réussite et assurons en même temps notre propre relève – les futurs responsables et

garants d’un succès durable. Nous travaillons les uns avec les autres et les uns pour

les autres.

Par ailleurs, Multi-Contact investit régulièrement dans des outils de production ultra-

modernes. Ceux-ci améliorent les conditions de travail pour nos collaborateurs et,

surtout, l’efficacité au profit de nos estimés clients et fournisseurs, par exemple dans

le domaine du développement des produits en améliorant et accélérant le processus

de développement.

En contemplant ce dernier numéro de plugin, je suis particulièrement heureux que

nous, chez Multi-Contact, apportions par notre travail quotidien une contribution au

«vivre ensemble et solidairement» dans le monde – par une promotion intensive de la

formation sur différents sites, par l’engagement personnel et l’initiative de certains col-

laborateurs ainsi que par la participation à des projets d’aide humanitaire qui tendent la

main aux plus faibles de cette terre. De cette manière, nous naviguerons «ensemble vers

de nouveaux horizons» et maintiendrons le cap sur un futur prometteur et florissant.

We‘re looking back on a successful first half of 2010 – compared to last year,

a renewed increase in demand for the photovoltaic industry has been particularly

noticeable.

The observed growth allows an optimistic view on the near future. Within the next

few months, an increase in turnover is to be expected for all five product groups.

However, people are also increasingly worried about the complex economic situation.

The financial performance of some countries and their possible effects on the inter-

national financial markets as well as on the still fragile demand are causing a certain

amount of insecurity.

Long-term success of a company requires well-educated, qualified staff. It has there-

fore always been part of our long tradition to constantly invest in education and to

pass on our knowledge. By offering training possibilities, we allow future generations

to partake in our success, and at the same time build up our own future staff – a war-

ranty for continuous success. We work with and for each other.

Moreover, Multi-contact keeps investing in modern, state-of-the-art working equip-

ment. This improves the working conditions for our employees and, above all, increases

our efficiency to the benefit of our valued customers and suppliers, e.g. in the field of

product development, by enhancing the development processes.

Looking at the current plugin issue, it makes me happy to see that we at Multi-Contact

contribute to a little more “togetherness” in the world with our daily work – by provid-

ing training to young people, through the personal commitment and initiative of individ-

ual employees as well as by supporting aid projects reaching out to the less fortunate.

This way, we‘re “off to new shores together” and are heading towards a promising,

Fläche von 9983km² und ca. 8,3Mio.

Einwohnern die achtgrösste Stadt der

Volksrepublik. Im Rahmen des wirt-

schaftlichen Aufschwungs Chinas hat

sich die Stadt seit den 1990er Jahren zu

einem bedeutenden Zentrum für Kultur,

Industrie und Bildung im Nordwesten

entwickelt. Die chinesischen Luftfahrt-,

Militär- und Energie-Industrien sind dort

ebenso angesiedelt wie das nationale

Raumfahrtzentrum. Das neue MC Büro

befindet sich im Technologie-Zentrum

von Xi’an.

tern aus der Industrie werden wesent-

liche Voraussetzungen identifiziert,

lung in zunehmend automatisierten

Produktionsprozessen in der Solar-

industrie. Durch die Automatisierung

liessen sich die Gesamtkosten von PV-

Anlagen weiter senken. „Eine Aufgabe

für die Zulieferer besteht daher darin,

die einzelnen Bauteile so zu gestalten,

dass sie für derartige Produktionspro-

zesse geeignet sind”, so Delvecchio.

Mit vermehrt für die automatisierte

Fertigung geeigneten Steckverbindern

und Anschlussdosen wird Multi-Contact

dieser Entwicklung gerecht und setzt

zudem auch in der eigenen Produktion

verstärkt auf Prozessautomation. Als

führender Hersteller energieeffizienter

Steckverbindersysteme für die Photo-

voltaik gehört das Unternehmen zu den

so genannten „CleanTech Drivern“ und

konnte bereits zum zweiten Mal an der

Umfrage teilnehmen. Für das anhal-

tende Engagement auf dem PV-Sektor

wurde MC erneut mit dem offiziellen

CleanTech Siegel ausgezeichnet.

jonction mieux appropriés à la fabrica-

tion automatisée, Multi-Contact est à

la hauteur de cette évolution et mise

tisation des processus dans sa propre

pour le photovoltaïque, l’entreprise fait

participer au sondage pour la seconde

The study aims at raising public aware-

ness for the CleanTech issue, and on

promoting the respective technologies

representatives of the industry in

order to identify requirements for the

progress of clean technologies, evalu-

ate trends, and point out new perspec-

tives.

Multi-Contact’s CEO Franco Delvecchio

sees a particularly promising develop-

ment in increasingly automated produc-

tion processes in the solar industry. The

automation helps to further reduce the

overall costs of PV installations. “Thus,

the single components need to be built

in such a way that they are suited for

these procedures”, says Delvecchio.

By producing connectors and junction

boxes suited for automated assembly,

Multi-Contact is meeting the challenge

of this development while at the same

time increasingly relying on process

automation in their own production. As

leading manufacturer of energy efficient

PV connector systems, Multi-Contact

is one of the so-called “CleanTech

Drivers”, and was able to take part in

the survey for the second time. For the

continued involvement in the PV sector,

MC again received the official Clean-

Tech certificate.

technik (DKE) ist die in Deutschland zuständige Organisation für die

Erarbeitung von Normen und Sicherheitsbestimmungen im Bereich

Elektrotechnik, Elektronik und Informationstechnik. Sie ist ein Organ

des Deutschen Instituts für Normung (DIN) und des Verbandes der

Elektrotechnik, Elektronik und Informationstechnik (VDE).

Die DKE ist das deutsche Mitglied im Europäischen Komitee für

elektrotechnische Normung (CENELEC) und in internationalen

Standardisierungsorganisationen (IEC).

Since 2005, the German Commission

for Electrical, Electronic & Information

Technologies (DKE) awards the prize

once a year to a maximum of 10 ex-

perts for their voluntary work and dedi-

cation to electrotechnical standardiza-

tion. MC product manager Ton Clerkx,

responsible for the Test & Measurement

product line at the Essen branch, is

one of 9 experts who received the

needle at the annual DKE meeting on

27 April 2010.

Ton Clerkx is chairman of the DKE/K 911

“Safety requirements for electrical

equipment for measurement, control,

and laboratory use” and the IEC/TC 66

“Safety of measuring, control, and

laboratory equipment”.

He is also an active member of several

work groups of the IEC/TC 66, the

IEC/TC 109 as well as various DKE

committees, and is involved in the

Advisory Committee for Safety (ACOS)

of the IEC.

His particular dedication to safety

aspects also shows in his daily work at

Multi-Contact. Ton Clerkx is the initiator

of MC’s special publication “Safe Test-

ing and Measuring According to IEC/EN

tion of standards and safety specifications covering the areas of

electrical engineering, electronics and information technology.

It constitutes a joint organisation of the German Institute for

Standardization (DIN) and the German Association for Electrical,

réutilisation des pièces et construire un

réseau de développement transfron-

talier efficace, certains projets étant

réalisés en commun par les cinq sites

de production internationaux.

La solution: un système de PDM qui

permet aux concepteurs d’accéder à

toutes les données de projets et de

produits à jour.

Depuis trois ans, Multi-Contact gère les

sous-groupes de ses séries de produits

avec ENOVIA SmarTeam comme des

blocs dans un jeu de construction –

avec un succès mesurable. Beaucoup

de temps de travail a pu être écono-

misé. Par exemple, l’intérêt du système

PDM est particulièrement net pour

le système de connecteurs modu-

laires CombiTac: «Nous configurons

les solutions à partir de modules aux

spécifications techniques claires; nous

ne faisons donc plus qu’échanger des

pièces dans un sous-groupe existant.

with the challenge of shortening

development times, increasing the

commonality of components and

building an efficient development

network across six international

production sites in five countries. The

solution: a PDM System which al-

lows the design engineers to access

all currently available project and

product data.

For three years now, Multi-Contact

have been collecting the components

of their product lines like “toy bricks”

with ENOVIA SmarTeam – with meas-

urable success. Creation and approval

of product data has been streamlined.

The modular connector system Com-

biTac is a perfect example of the PDM

system’s advantages: “We create the

solutions out of modules with clearly

defined technical specifications; in an

existing line of products, we merely

exchange components. Before, our

engineers had to build every single so-

lution from scratch in the CAD system,

which was extremely time-consuming”

Mit der Einbeziehung der beiden

Standorte in Frankreich und Essen

schliesst Multi-Contact im 3. Quartal

2010 die Hauptphase der PDM-Im-

plementierung ab. Neben insgesamt

90 Nutzern mit Autorenrechten gibt

es Webclients für Mitarbeiter, die nur

Leserechte benötigen, z.B. im Einkauf

und im Qualitätsmanagement. Und

das Unternehmen hat weitere Pläne,

wie PDM-Fachmann Goth verrät: „Ab

2011 wollen wir die Autorenrechte auf

die Vertriebsmitarbeiter ausweiten, die

die Basisdaten eines Kundenauftrags

direkt erfassen und an die Konstruk-

teure weitergeben sollen“.

Den Produktentwicklungsprozess zu

standardisieren und zu dokumentie-

ren, ist auch Voraussetzung dafür, die

gesetzlichen Anforderungen bezüglich

der Produkthaftung erfüllen zu können:

„Dank des PDM-Systems können wir

heute genau belegen, was im gesamten

Lebenszyklus eines unserer Produkte

passiert ist“, so Goth.

Mais l’entreprise a d’autres projets,

comme le révèle le spécialiste PDM

transmettre aux concepteurs».

The main stage of the PDM implemen-

tation at Multi-Contact will be com-

pleted in the third quarter 2010 with

the integration of the subsidiaries in

France and Essen, Germany. Besides a

total of 90 users with authoring rights

there are web clients for staff who

only require reading access, e.g. in

the purchase department and quality

management. And the company has

further plans, as PDM expert Markus

reveals: “from 2011 we want to extend

the authoring rights to the sales staff,

who are supposed to record the basic

data of a customer order and directly

transfer these to the engineers”.

Standardization and documentation of

the product development process is

also essential in order to fulfil the legal

requirements regarding product liability:

“Thanks to the PDM system we are

now able to verify the development his-

tory throughout the entire life cycle of

all of our products”, says Markus.

durch eine besonders flache Bauweise,

kleine Einbaumasse und einheitliches

Gehäuse design auszeichnet.

Der FL3-SERVO-POWER-6+PE ist

isoliert geschirmt und überträgt Ströme

bis 16A. Die Bemessungsspannung ist

690V AC, Kabel mit Querschnitten von

1,5 bis 2,5mm² können einfach und an-

wenderfreundlich mit einer Klemmleiste

angeschlossen werden. Der Stecker ist

nach aussen geschirmt und zur Docking-

platte oder zum Werkzeugwechsler

hin isoliert. Durch die Schirmung wird

verhindert, dass die gepulsten und sehr

energiereichen Ströme ins Netz streu-

en. Die Isolierung ist notwendig, damit

sich die verschiedenen Schirmungen

nicht über die Platte kontaktieren

sind Stromversorgungen für BUS-

Le nouveau connecteur multipolaire

FL3-SERVO-POWER est un complé-

ment idéal à la série FL3 qui se caracté-

rise par un profil particulièrement plat,

de petites dimensions et un design de

boîtier homogène.

Le FL3-SERVO-POWER-6+PE est isolé,

blindé et peut transporter des courants

jusqu’à 16A. La tension assignée est de

690V AC, des câbles d’une section de

1,5 à 2,5mm² peuvent être raccordés

simplement et facilement au moyen

d’un bornier. Le connecteur est blindé

vers l’extérieur et isolé par rapport à

la plaque de fixation ou au changeur

d’outil. Le blindage empêche les

courants pulsés et à très haute énergie

de perturber le réseau. L’isolation est

nécessaire pour que les différents blin-

dages ne puissent pas entrer en contact

via la plaque. Les domaines d’appli-

cation typiques sont les alimentations

électriques pour systèmes de BUS et

servomoteurs au niveau des changeurs

d’outils de robots.

The new multipole connector FL3-

Servo-Power is an ideal addition to the

FL3 series, which is characterized by a

particularly low build, small size and a

homogeneous housing design.

The FL3-Servo-Power-6+PE is shielded

and insulated and carries currents up

to 16A. The rated voltage is 690V AC.

Cables of cross sections 1,5mm² to

2,5mm² can easily be connected by

means of a terminal strip. The con-

nector is shielded on the outside and

insulated against the docking plate or

the tool changer. That shield prevents

the pulsed, high energy currents from

spreading into the grid. The insula-

tion is necessary in order to avoid

that different shields connect via the

docking plate. Typical fields of applica-

tion include power supplies for BUS

systems and servo motors on robotic

tool changers.

design of the contact guarantees pro-

tection against incorrect mating. Typical

The new component for data transfer is

a 4-pole connector for Ø 3mm mono-

or multi-mode optical fibre. Common

fibre types are graded index fibre (GI):

50/125 and 62,5/125μm, as well as sin-

Due to their great advantages such as

covering long distances and resistance

Die flache Bauform der neuen, kosten-

optimierten Anschlussdose PV-JB/WL

für kristalline Module ermöglicht eine

Installation direkt unter dem Modul-

rahmen. Das Abwinkeln der Anschluss-

bändchen um 90° entfällt. Damit ergibt

sich eine deutliche Zeitersparnis im

Produktionsprozess der PV-Module

während der Montage. Gleichzeitig ist

ein einfacher Anschluss der Bändchen

durch Klemmfedern möglich, alterna-

tiv besteht auch die Möglichkeit des

Schweissens und Lötens. Die Dose

kann entweder mit Silikon oder doppel-

seitigem

Klebeband auf dem Panel befestigt

werden. Weitere Vorteile der PV-JB/

WL sind die hohe Schutzart von IP65

und IP67 sowie ein zusätzlicher Schutz

der Kabeltüllen durch die überstehende

PV-JB/WL – boîtier de jonction pour modules cristallins

La forme plate du nouveau boîtier de

jonction à coût optimisé PV-JB/WL pour

modules cristallins permet une instal-

lation directement sous le cadre du

module. On économise ainsi un temps

précieux lors de l’installation, étant

donné qu’il n’est pas nécessaire de

couder les conducteurs plats. En même

temps, le raccordement des conduc-

teurs plats peut s’effectuer simplement

par ressort de serrage ou, au choix, par

soudage ou brasage. Le boîtier peut

être fixé sur le panneau avec du silicone

ou du ruban adhésif double face.

Autres avantages: l’indice de protection

élevé, IP65 et IP67, ainsi qu’une protec-

tion supplémentaire des passe-câbles

MC4 connector system. The MC4PLUS

comes pre-assembled with solar cables

of cross sections 1,5mm², 2,5mm²,

4mm² and 6mm². The snap-in lock can

only be opened with a special tool and

thus ensures maximum safety for the

connection.

PV-JB/WL – Junction box for crystalline modules

The flat design of the new, cost effec-

tive junction box PV-JB/WL for crys-

talline panels allows the installation

immediately underneath the frame.

The 90° bending of the contact bands

is omitted, saving assembly time dur-

ing the production process of the PV

module. The contact of the bands can

easily be made by clamp springs, or

alternatively by welding or soldering.

The box is fixed on the panel either

using silicone or with double-sided ad-

hesive tape. Further advantages of the

PV-JB/WL are the high protection class

IP65 and IP67 as well as an additional

protection of the cable sleeve thanks

to the protruding lid, which prevents a

bending of the cable at the exit.

NDC Trennschalter sind weltweit in

vielen Anwendungen im Einsatz, unter

anderem in der Londoner U-Bahn,

Network Rail, Docklands Light Rail und

Thameslink im Vereinigten Königreich

sowie die Washington Metro, Le Mans

Metro und das Dubai Light Rail Transit

System in Übersee. Die Erfahrung von

HSS zeugt von der Vielseitigkeit der MC

Kontaklamellentechnik.

Elektrische Hochleistungssysteme wie

Eisenbahnen oder industrielle Antriebs-

systeme erfordern Schaltanlagen, die

Dauerströme von mehreren kA tragen

und Kurzschlussströme von bis zu

200kA unterbrechen und isolieren kön-

nen. Die üblicherweise lange Betriebs-

dauer solcher Systeme stellt höchste

Anforderungen an die Konstruktion

und die einzelnen Bauteile. Sie müssen

mit minimalem Wartungsaufwand bis

zu 50 Jahre lang fehlerfrei funktionie-

ren – bei Bahn, Militär und in vielen

anderen Industriebereichen. Im Bereich

von Hochstrom- und Hochspannungs-

anwendungen verfügt Hawker Siddeley

Switchgear (HSS) über eine bemerkens-

werte Erfolgsbilanz seit den Anfängen

des elektrischen Antriebs.

Für den NDC Trennschalter benötigte

HSS geeignete elektrische Kontakte:

constante pendant toute la

pour éviter les pannes.»

Les concepteurs de HSS ont

été séduits par les perfor-

mances et la flexibilité de la

technique du contact à lamelles

MC. Celle-ci produit une série de

contacts ponctuels dont les propriétés

électriques sont clairement définies.

Avec le nombre optimal de contacts

à lamelles, les ingénieurs peuvent

atteindre la résistance de contact sou-

haitée et escompter que celle-ci reste

constante pendant toute la durée de vie

du sectionneur.

Pour répondre aux exigences de l’équipe

de développement HSS, Multi-Contact

a perfectionné le principe du contact à

lamelles. «[…] Nous avions besoin d’une

solution compacte avec des contacts

à ressort individuels pour des écarts

insignifiants de la résistance de contact.

Cela permet une performance constante

du sectionneur NDC, même si les élé-

ments se déplacent en sens contraires»,

explique Steve Lane. «Multi-Contact s’est

déclaré prêt à nous soutenir dès le début

dans la mise au point de ces jeux de

nous a aidé à développer le sectionneur

HSS’s engineers were attracted to the

high performance and flexibility of the

MC Multilam Technology. It creates a

large number of point contacts with

tightly defined electrical characteristics.

By configuring the optimum number

of Multilam contacts, engineers can

achieve the desired contact resistance

and expect this resistance to remain

consistent throughout the life-

time of the switch.

In order to meet the require-

ments of the HSS design

team, Multi-Contact devel-

oped their Multilam princi-

ple further. “[…] We needed

a compact solution featuring

individually sprung contacts to

ensure negligible variations in contact

resistance. This allows the NDC circuit

breaker to deliver consistent perform-

ance, even when the switch elements

are moving relative to each other,”

explains Steve Lane. “Multi-Contact

were willing to assist with the initial de-

sign of these special contact sets […].

Their inputs helped to develop the NDC

circuit breaker within a short space of

time, allowing us to deliver the first

completed units to customers quickly

and at a cost-effective price.”

NDC circuit breaker units are in service

in numerous applications world-wide,

including the London Underground,

Network Rail, Docklands Light Rail and

Thameslink within the UK, as well as

Washington Metro, Le Mans Metro

and the Dubai Light Rail Transit system

overseas. HSS’s experiences clearly

demonstrate the versatility of the MC

Multilam Technology.

High-powered electrical systems such

as railway cars or wagon for industrial

processes require heavy duty switch-

gear capable of conducting continuous

currents of several kA and interrupting

and isolating short circuit currents up to

200kA. The typically long service life of

these systems imposes tough demands

on design and constituent components.

They need to operate faultlessly, with

minimum maintenance, for up to 50

years in rail applications, military equip-

ment and many industrial installations.

In the field of high current, high voltage

applications, Hawker Siddeley Switch-

gear (HSS) have a distinguished record

spanning almost the entire history of

electric traction.

For the design of their NDC circuit

breaker, HSS’s engineers required suit-

able electrical contacts. “[…] We required

a rotary mechanism having sliding con-

tacts with high current carrying capac-

ity and very low contact resistance,”

explains HSS engineering director, Steve

Lane. “Moreover, the contact resistance

must remain nearly constant over the

lifetime of the circuit breaker to prevent

failures.”

ein umfangreiches Bildungsangebot zur

beruflichen Weiterbildung und für die

überbetriebliche Ausbildung verschie-

dener Lehrberufe. Ausbildungsleiter

Ralf Maier betreut pro Lehrjahr 150

Auszubildende Kfz-Mechatroniker und

Zweiradmechaniker. Ein sehr komple-

xes Thema ist die Fehleranalyse an

Motorrädern mittels Diagnosegerät.

Eigens zu diesem Zweck wurde eine

sogenannte ‚Fehlerschaltbox‘ konzipiert

und mit Komponenten von Multi-Contact

realisiert. Mit Brückensteckern können

unterschiedlichste Fehler simuliert

werden.

Für Messungen mit dem Diagnose-

gerät steht ein Motorsteuergerät zur

Verfügung. Hierzu wurde der komplette

Kabelbaum des Motorrades aufge-

trennt und in aufwändiger Arbeit an die

einzelnen Einbaubuchsen verdrahtet,

die Kabelfarbe wurde jeweils vermerkt.

Wird nun ein Fehler simuliert, kann

der Auszubildende einfach durch Kon-

taktierung über die Buchsen ein Kabel

‚anzapfen‘ und die Diagnose durch-

führen.

complexes.

Un «boîtier de simulation de défauts» a

été spécialement conçu à cet effet et réa-

lisé avec des composants Multi-Contact.

Des cavaliers permettent de simuler les

défauts les plus divers.

Un module de gestion moteur est dispo-

nible pour des mesures avec l’appareil

de diagnostic. Pour cela, le faisceau de

câblage complet de la moto a été défait

et chaque câble minutieusement relié

aux douilles à visser, la couleur du câble

a été chaque fois notée. Quand un dé-

faut est simulé, il suffit à l’apprenti de se

brancher sur chaque câble en contactant

les douilles pour effectuer le diagnostic.

A very complex topic is the fault analy-

sis on motorbikes using a diagnostic

device.

For this particular purpose, the

so-called “error switch box” was

developed and has been built with

Multi-Contact components. Different

types of errors can be simulated by

means of jumper plugs.

A motor control unit is available for

measurements with the diagnostic

device. For this, the complete cable har-

ness of the motorbike was unravelled

and meticulously connected to the in-

dividual installation sockets. The colour

of the cables was noted down in each

case. When a simulated error occurs,

the trainee can “tap” any cable and run

the diagnosis by simply contacting the

socket.

raise young people’s enthusiasm

for electrical professions and spon-

sors the Youth electronics centre

(JEZ) in Basel.

Since 1978, the JEZ offers

practice-oriented courses for

school groups and youths from the

age of 12. The young participants

are supposed to acquire basic

knowledge and skills and develop

an interest in this field of work.

The Multi-Contact headquarters in

Allschwil, Switzerland, MC France in

Hésingue as well as Germany take on

apprentices for various professions on a

regular basis. Training is offered for ex-

ample in mechanics, construction and

design, process mechanics, information

technology and administration.

In some cases, the graduates remain

in the company after having success-

fully completed their education. This

way, the special Know-How that has

been acquired and developed over

years is passed on to the next genera-

tion, and qualified staff that is familiar

Die Ausbildung als PolymechanikerIn

erfordert Genauigkeit, handwerkliches

Geschick und Geduld. Für die Lernen-

den ist es ein Erfolgserlebnis, wenn

ihre Werkstücke im praktischen Unter-

nehmensalltag erfolgreich eingesetzt

werden. Ein solches Beispiel ist das

von Michel Lehmann (Polymechaniker

im 3. Lehrjahr) gefertigte Werkzeug

zum Demontieren von Produktrollen.

Anhand bestehender Zeichnungen

stellte er selbständig zwei Exemplare

des Schnellöffners her. Dabei ist Präzi-

sion gefragt: die Metallteile müssen auf

1/100mm genau angefertigt werden,

damit am Ende alles passt!

Nach etwa 5 Wochen war das Projekt

abgeschlossen.

Das fertige Gerät kommt bei der Prü-

fung von PV-Lieferungen auf

Vollständigkeit zum Ein-

satz. Die Stecker sind

dicht zwischen Papierbändern auf eine

Rolle gewickelt. Um diese zu öffnen,

müssen mehrere Schnappverschlüsse

gleichzeitig geöffnet werden – ohne

Hilfsmittel ein zeitaufwändiger Prozess.

Mit dem Werkzeug geht das blitz-

schnell: ansetzen, Hebel runterdrücken,

fertig. Ist der Deckel geöffnet, erkennt

der Prüfer mit blossem Auge, wo und

wie viele Teile fehlen. Pro Woche wer-

den im Schnitt 20 Sendungen auf diese

Weise überprüft.

La formation de polymécanicien(ne)

exige de la précision, de l’habileté

manuelle et de la patience. Pour les

apprentis, c’est un succès personnel de

voir leurs pièces utilisées dans la pra-

tique quotidienne de l’entreprise. L’outil

à démonter les bobines de produits

réalisé par Michel Lehmann (polymé-

canicien en 3e année d’apprentissage)

en est un bel exemple. A partir de

plans existants, il a fabriqué lui-même

deux exemplaires de l’outil d’ouverture

rapide. Cela demande de la précision:

les pièces métalliques doivent être

confectionnées au 1/100mm près pour

que tout s’ajuste à la fin! Le projet a été

bouclé en à peu près 5 semaines.

L’appareil terminé est utilisé pour le

contrôle du contenu des livraisons PV.

Les connecteurs sont étroite-

ment enroulés entre

des bandes de papier

sur une bobine. Pour ouvrir celle-ci, il

faut déverrouiller plusieurs fermetures à

enclenchement en même temps – une

opération qui prend du temps sans

moyen auxiliaire. Avec l’outil, cela se

fait en un rien de temps: appliquer,

baisser le levier, et c’est fini. Une fois le

couvercle ouvert, le contrôleur constate

à l’œil nu où et combien de pièces

manquent. En moyenne 20 envois

sont contrôlés de cette manière par

semaine.

The training as a polymechnic requires

precision, technical skills and patience.

When their workpieces are used in

daily business, the apprentices achieve

a feeling of success. One example is

the tool for opening PV connector reels

manufactured by Michel Lehmann

(polymechanic in his third year). He

was assigned the task of producing

two quick-opener tools from exist-

ing designs. Precision machining is

essential, the components have to

be accurate to 1/100mm to ensure

everything fits and functions correctly.

He completed the project unaided in 5

weeks.

The finished tool is used to check the

reels for completeness. The connectors

are arranged closely between layers of

paper wrapped around the reel. In order

to remove the lid, several snap-in-locks

have to be opened at once – a trouble-

some process if done by hand. With

the tool it only takes a few seconds:

position, press, done. When the lid has

been removed, the tester sees with his

naked eye if and where parts are miss-

ing. On average, 20 shipments a week

are tested in this way.

Multi-Contact unterstützt Water Missi-

ons International (WMI), eine gemein-

nützige Organisation mit

Sitz in South Carolina, bei

einem ihrer Hilfsprojekte.

WMI hat das Living Water

Treatment System (LWTS)

entwickelt, welches überall

dort auf der Welt zum Einsatz

kommt, wo die Menschen keinen Zu-

gang zu sauberem Trinkwasser haben.

Das LWTS ist eine kompakte, unab-

hängige Wasserauf bereitungsanlage,

die essentiell für die Versorgung von

Katas trophenopfern ist, wenn die

Wasser quellen vor Ort verunreinigt sind.

Das LWTS bereitet pro Minute 38 Liter

(10 Gallonen) Wasser aus einer un-

reinen Quelle wie einem See, Fluss oder

Tümpel auf. Die Betriebskosten

für die Aufbereitung von 3785 Litern

(1000 Gallonen) Wasser betragen

weniger als 3 US-Dollar, wenn die

Anlage mit einem Dieselgenerator

betrieben wird. Kommt Solarenergie

zum Einsatz, reduzieren sich die Kosten

für dieselbe Menge auf unter 0,75 USD.

Multi-Contact kam der Anfrage von

WMI, sie bei ihrem Projekt in Haiti zu

unterstützen, gerne nach. Wir stell-

ten MC3 Steckverbinder, Kabel und

Werkzeug für die Installation einer

Photovoltaik-Anlage zur Verfügung, mit

deren Hilfe die Kosten für den Betrieb

des LWTS deutlich reduziert werden

konnten.

Zum Dank brachte WMI einen Auf-

ist es WMI gelungen, die

Menschen auf Haiti in

projet d’aide humanitaire.

WMI a développé le Living

Water Treatment System

(LWTS) qui est utilisé

partout où les populations

n’ont pas accès à l’eau potable. Le

LWTS est un système de traitement

d’eau indépendant et compact qui per-

met l’approvisionnement des victimes

de catastrophes lorsque les sources

d’eau locales sont polluées.

Le LWTS traite, par minute, 38 litres

(10 gallons) d’eau impure provenant

d’un lac, d’un fleuve ou d’une mare. Le

coût du traitement de 3785 litres (1000

gallons) d’eau est inférieur à 3 dollars

US si l’installation fonctionne sur

un groupe électrogène diesel. En

utilisant l’énergie solaire, on peut

réduire ce coût à moins de 0,75

USD pour la même quantité.

Multi-Contact a accueilli favorablement

la demande de WMI de la soutenir dans

son projet en Haïti. Nous avons mis à

disposition des connecteurs MC3, des

câbles et des outils pour l’installation

d’une centrale photovoltaïque qui a

permis de nettement réduire le coût de

fonctionnement du LWTS.

En remerciement, WMI a apposé un

autocollant avec le logo MC sur toutes

les unités de LWTS. Avec

d’autres entreprises, WMI

a réussi, en moins de 5

Multi-Contact supported Water Mis-

sions International (WMI), a non-profit

organization based in South

Carolina, in their disaster

relief efforts. WMI, who

developed the Living Water

Treatment System (LWTS),

plays a major role in areas of

the world where the people

do not have access to a safe source of

drinking water. The LWTS is a compact,

self contained water treatment system,

which is essential in supporting disaster

victims when the local water sources

have been contaminated.

The LWTS treats 10 gallons (38 liters)

of water per minute using a raw water

source such as a lake, river or pond.

The operating cost to treat 1000 gallons

(3785 liters) of water is less than $3.00

when running on a diesel powered

generator. By utilizing solar pow-

er, the operating cost reduces to

less than $0.75 per 1000 gallons.

Multi-Contact was glad to lend support

when WMI asked for help in the Haiti

project. We provided MC3 connectors,

wire and tools to help install a solar

power system to significantly reduce

the operating costs for running the

LWTS.

WMI showed their appreciation by

putting a sticker with the MC logo on

all the LWTS units. With

the help of Multi-Contact

and other companies who

assisted during this time

of need, WMI was able

to provide much needed

water to the people in Haiti in less

than 5 days.

KambodschaMulti-Contact Südostasien unterstützte das Overseas Community Project der Operation Hope Stiftung in Kambodscha bei der Reparatur einer Solaranlage im örtlichen Waisenhaus.

Im April 2010 nahm eine Gruppe von 25 Studierenden und zwei Professoren

der Temasek Polytechnic in Singapur an einer freiwilligen Hilfsexpedition nach

Kambodscha teil. Ein Ziel des Projekts war die Wiederherstellung einer solarbe-

triebenen Licht anlage im neueröffneten Hope Training Centre (HTC) in Prey Veng,

um die Sicherheit auf dem Gelände zu verbessern.

MC Singapur unterstützte das Projekt mit einer Geldspende und stellte PV

Steck verbinder und Kabel für die Anlage zur Verfügung. Vor ihrer Abreise schulte

Multi-Contact die Teilnehmer in der Montage der Steckverbinder.

Als besonderes Andenken entwarfen die Studierenden T-Shirts mit dem Multi-Contact

Logo und dem Logo ihrer Schule, welche ebenfalls von MC gesponsert wurden.

In April 2010, a group of 25 engineering students and two teachers from Temasek

Polytechnic in Singapore volunteered for a charity expedition to Cambodia. One of

their goals was to restore the solar-powered lighting system of the newly installed

Hope Training Centre (HTC) in Prey Veng, increasing the security of the compound.

MC Singapore supported the project by donating money and providing photovoltaic

connectors and cables for the installation. Before their departure, Multi-Contact

trained the participants to assemble the connectors.

As a special souvenir, the students designed T-shirts showing the Multi-Contact logo

Messerückblick:IntersolarEurope2010Die Messe München meldet Besucherrekorde – auch für Multi-Contact war die Teilnahme an der Intersolar ein voller Erfolg.

Die Intersolar Europe auf der Neuen

Messe München ist einer der wichtigs-

ten internationalen Branchenevents und

wächst von Jahr zu Jahr. Diesmal prä-

sentierten 1880 Aussteller ihre Produkte

und Dienstleistungen in zwölf Hallen

und dem angeschlossenen Freigelände

auf insgesamt 134 000 Quadratmetern

Ausstellungsfläche. Mit rund 72 000

Besuchern aus ca. 150 Nationen wur-

den die Erwartungen der Veranstalter

übertroffen.

Auch der Stand von Multi-Contact war

mit etwa 400 Besuchern stark fre-

quentiert. Besonders unsere auf dieser

Messe erstmals vorgestellten Produkt-

neuheiten (s. Heftmitte) stiessen auf

reges Interesse. Interessante Gespräche

mit Key-Kunden und wichtigen Partnern

wurden geführt und neue Perspektiven

erschlossen.

Darüber hinaus sind wir auch in diesem

Jahr vor Ort erfolgreich gegen Produkt-

piraten vorgegangen. Mehrere Her-

steller und Anbieter illegaler Produkt-

kopien wurden angezeigt und

verwarnt und mussten das

fragliche Material von ihren Ständen

entfernen.

RetoursurIntersolarEurope2010Le Centre de foires de Munich annonce une fréquentation record – pour Multi-Contact aussi, la participation à Intersolar a été un franc succès.

Intersolar Europe au nouveau Centre

de foires de Munich est l’un des plus

importants événements internationaux

du secteur et il grandit d’année en

année. Cette fois, 1880 exposants ont

présenté leurs produits et services sur

134 000 mètres carrés répartis dans

douze halls et sur le terrain d’exposi-

tion en plein air attenant. Avec quelque

72 000 visiteurs venus de 150 pays,

les attentes des organisateurs ont été

dépassées.

Le stand de Multi-Contact, avec environ

400 visiteurs, a également connu une

forte fréquentation. Nos nouveaux pro-

duits, présentés en première mondiale

à ce salon (voir au milieu de ce nu-

méro), ont rencontré un vif intérêt. L’oc-

casion d’avoir d’intéressants entretiens

avec des clients ou partenaires clés et

d’ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives.

Par ailleurs, nous avons lutté avec

succès contre la contrefaçon sur place.

Plusieurs fabricants et fournisseurs

de copies illégales de produits ont été

dénoncés, mis en garde et

contraints de retirer le matériel litigieux

de leurs stands.

Tradeshowreview:IntersolarEurope2010The Munich Trade Fair reports visitor records – for Multi-Contact, too, the participation in the Inter-solar was a great success.

The Intersolar Europe at the New

Munich Trade Fair Center is one of

the most important events of the

PV industry, and is growing steadily.

This year, 1880 exhibitors presented

their products and services in twelve

halls and the outdoor area, covering

a total exhibition space of 134 000m².

Roughly 72 000 visitors from around

150 nations exceeded the organizers’

expectations.

With around 400 visitors, Multi-Contact’s

booth was highly frequented as well.

Our new products (see centre pages)

which were shown at the Intersolar for

the very first time, raised particularly

great interest.

Interesting conversations were held

with key customers as well as impor-

tant partners, and new perspectives

opened up.

Moreover, we were again successful

in our actions against product pi-

rates. We filed reports against several

manufacturers and distributors of

illegal product copies; they

received a warning and had

to remove the respective material from

their booths.
